Yahweh Raises the Dreaded Chaldeans

(A)See among the nations! And look!
Be also astonished! (B)Be astounded!
Because I am doing (C)something in your days—
You would not believe if it was recounted to you.
For behold, I am (D)raising up the Chaldeans,
That bitter and hasty nation
Who walks on the breadth of the land
To (E)possess dwelling places which are not theirs.
They are dreaded and (F)feared;
Their (G)justice and exaltation come forth from themselves.
Their (H)horses are swifter than leopards
And [a]sharper than (I)wolves in the evening.
Their [b]horsemen come galloping;
Their horsemen come from afar;
They fly like an (J)eagle swooping down to devour.
All of them come for violence.
[c]Their horde of (K)faces moves forward.
And they gather captives like sand.
10 And they (L)mock at kings,
And rulers are a laughing matter to them.
They (M)laugh at every fortress
And (N)heap up dirt and capture it.
11 Then they will sweep through like the (O)wind and pass on.
But they will be held (P)guilty,
They whose (Q)power is their god.”

  3. Habakkuk 1:9 Or The eagerness of their faces

Behold ye among the nations, and look, and wonder marvellously; for [a]I am working a work in your days, which ye will not believe though it be told you. For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, that march through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling-places that are not theirs. [b]They are terrible and dreadful; their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves. Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves; and their horsemen [c]press proudly on: yea, their horsemen come from far; they fly as an eagle that hasteth to devour. They come all of them for violence; [d]the set of their faces is [e]forwards; and they gather captives as the sand. 10 [f]Yea, he scoffeth at kings, and princes are a derision unto him; he derideth every stronghold; for he heapeth up dust, and taketh it. 11 [g]Then shall he sweep by as a wind, and shall [h]pass over, and be guilty, even he whose might is his god.
