Dios Habla Hoy
1 Éste es el mensaje que el Señor reveló al profeta Habacuc.
2 Señor, ¿hasta cuándo gritaré pidiendo ayuda
sin que tú me escuches?
¿Hasta cuándo clamaré a causa de la violencia
sin que vengas a librarnos?
3 ¿Por qué me haces ver
tanta angustia y maldad?
Estoy rodeado de violencia y destrucción;
por todas partes hay pleitos y luchas.
4 No se aplica la ley,
se pisotea el derecho,
el malo persigue al bueno
y se tuerce la justicia.
5 «Miren ustedes a las naciones que los rodean;
mírenlas y llénense de espanto.
Estoy a punto de hacer cosas tales
que ustedes no las creerían, si alguien se las contara.
6 Voy a poner en pie de guerra a los caldeos,
que son gente cruel, que siempre están dispuestos
a recorrer el mundo de lado a lado
para adueñarse de tierras que no les pertenecen.
7 Son espantosos y terribles,
y no reconocen más ley que la suya.
8 Sus caballos son más veloces que los leopardos,
más salvajes que los lobos del desierto.
Sus jinetes galopan en gran número
y se lanzan al ataque desde lejos,
como el águila se lanza sobre su presa.
9 Todo lo destruyen a su paso;
en su avance van sembrando el terror,
y son más los prisioneros que hacen
que las arenas que hay en el mar.
10 Se burlan de los reyes
y de la gente importante.
Se ríen de las fortalezas,
pues levantan rampas ante ellas
y las toman por asalto.
11 Pasan como un huracán;
no reconocen más dios que su propia fuerza.»
12 Señor, ¿acaso no existes tú eternamente,
mi Dios santo e inmortal?
Señor y protector mío,
tú has dado fuerza a los caldeos
para que ellos ejecuten tu justicia.
13 Tú eres demasiado puro para consentir el mal,
para contemplar con agrado la iniquidad;
¿cómo, pues, contemplas callado a los criminales,
y guardas silencio mientras el malvado
destruye a los que son mejores que él?
14 ¿Por qué tratas a los hombres
como a peces del mar,
como a animales sin gobierno?
15 Los caldeos se apoderan de otras naciones
como el pescador se apodera del pescado:
lo atrapa con anzuelos y con redes,
y luego, al verlo todo junto, se llena de alegría.
16 Por eso el pescador adora sus redes y anzuelos,
y ofrece sacrificios y quema incienso en su honor,
pues gracias a ellos tiene comida buena y abundante.
17 Así, ¿seguirán los caldeos pescándonos con sus redes?
¿Seguirán matando sin compasión a la gente?

1 Profecía que el profeta Habacuc recibió en una visión
2 «¿Hasta cuándo, Jehová, gritaré
sin que tú escuches,
y clamaré a causa de la violencia
sin que tú salves?
3 ¿Por qué me haces ver iniquidad
y haces que vea tanta maldad?
Ante mí sólo hay destrucción y violencia;
pleito y contienda se levantan.
4 Por eso la Ley se debilita
y el juicio no se ajusta a la verdad;
el impío asedia al justo,
y así se tuerce la justicia.
5 »Mirad entre las naciones,
ved y asombraos,
porque haré una obra en vuestros días,
que, aun cuando se os contara, no la creeríais.
6 Porque yo levanto a los caldeos,
nación cruel y presurosa,
que camina por la anchura de la tierra
para poseer las moradas ajenas.
7 Formidable es y terrible;
de ella misma proceden
su justicia y su dignidad.
8 Sus caballos son
más ligeros que leopardos,
más feroces que lobos nocturnos,
y sus jinetes se multiplicarán.
Vienen de lejos sus jinetes,
vuelan como águilas
que se apresuran a devorar.
9 Toda ella acude a la violencia;
el terror va delante de ella,
y recoge cautivos como arena.
10 Se mofa de los reyes,
y de los príncipes hace burla;
se ríe de las fortalezas,
levanta terraplenes y las toma.
11 Luego pasa como el huracán,
y peca porque hace de su fuerza su dios.
12 »¿No eres tú desde el principio,
Jehová, Dios mío, Santo mío?
No moriremos.
Jehová, para juicio lo pusiste;
y tú, Roca, lo estableciste para castigar.
13 Muy limpio eres de ojos para ver el mal,
ni puedes ver el agravio;
¿por qué, pues, ves a los criminales
y callas cuando destruye el impío
al que es más justo que él?
14 Tratas a los hombres como a peces del mar,
como a reptiles que no tienen dueño.
15 A todos los pesca con anzuelo,
los recoge con su red,
los junta en sus mallas;
por lo cual se alegra y se regocija.
16 Por eso ofrece sacrificios a su red
y quema incienso a sus mallas,
porque gracias a ellas su porción es abundante
y sabrosa su comida.
17 ¿Vaciará sin cesar su red
y seguirá aniquilando sin piedad a las naciones?»

1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
2 O Lord, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!
3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.
4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.
5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not their's.
7 They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.
8 Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.
9 They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.
10 And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.
11 Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.
12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.
13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
14 And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
15 They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.
16 Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.
17 Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?

Habakkuk’s Complaint
2 How long,(B) Lord, must I call for help,
but you do not listen?(C)
Or cry out to you, “Violence!”
but you do not save?(D)
3 Why do you make me look at injustice?
Why do you tolerate(E) wrongdoing?(F)
Destruction and violence(G) are before me;
there is strife,(H) and conflict abounds.
4 Therefore the law(I) is paralyzed,
and justice never prevails.
The wicked hem in the righteous,
so that justice(J) is perverted.(K)
The Lord’s Answer
5 “Look at the nations and watch—
and be utterly amazed.(L)
For I am going to do something in your days
that you would not believe,
even if you were told.(M)
6 I am raising up the Babylonians,[a](N)
that ruthless and impetuous people,
who sweep across the whole earth(O)
to seize dwellings not their own.(P)
7 They are a feared and dreaded people;(Q)
they are a law to themselves
and promote their own honor.
8 Their horses are swifter(R) than leopards,
fiercer than wolves(S) at dusk.
Their cavalry gallops headlong;
their horsemen come from afar.
They fly like an eagle swooping to devour;
9 they all come intent on violence.
Their hordes[b] advance like a desert wind
and gather prisoners(T) like sand.
10 They mock kings
and scoff at rulers.(U)
They laugh at all fortified cities;
by building earthen ramps(V) they capture them.
11 Then they sweep past like the wind(W) and go on—
guilty people, whose own strength is their god.”(X)
Habakkuk’s Second Complaint
12 Lord, are you not from everlasting?(Y)
My God, my Holy One,(Z) you[c] will never die.(AA)
You, Lord, have appointed(AB) them to execute judgment;
you, my Rock,(AC) have ordained them to punish.
13 Your eyes are too pure(AD) to look on evil;
you cannot tolerate wrongdoing.(AE)
Why then do you tolerate(AF) the treacherous?(AG)
Why are you silent while the wicked
swallow up those more righteous than themselves?(AH)
14 You have made people like the fish in the sea,
like the sea creatures that have no ruler.
15 The wicked(AI) foe pulls all of them up with hooks,(AJ)
he catches them in his net,(AK)
he gathers them up in his dragnet;
and so he rejoices and is glad.
16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net
and burns incense(AL) to his dragnet,
for by his net he lives in luxury
and enjoys the choicest food.
17 Is he to keep on emptying his net,
destroying nations without mercy?(AM)
