Habacuc se queja de injusticia
1 La profecía que vio el profeta Habacuc. 2 ¿Hasta cuándo, oh Jehová, clamaré, y no oirás; y daré voces a ti a causa de la violencia, y no salvarás? 3 ¿Por qué me haces ver iniquidad, y haces que vea molestia? Destrucción y violencia están delante de mí, y pleito y contienda se levantan. 4 Por lo cual la ley es debilitada, y el juicio no sale según la verdad; por cuanto el impío asedia al justo, por eso sale torcida la justicia.
Los caldeos castigarán a Judá
5 Mirad entre las naciones, y ved, y asombraos; porque haré una obra en vuestros días, que aun cuando se os contare, no la creeréis.(A) 6 Porque he aquí, yo levanto a los caldeos,(B) nación cruel y presurosa, que camina por la anchura de la tierra para poseer las moradas ajenas. 7 Formidable es y terrible; de ella misma procede su justicia y su dignidad. 8 Sus caballos serán más ligeros que leopardos, y más feroces que lobos nocturnos, y sus jinetes se multiplicarán; vendrán de lejos sus jinetes, y volarán como águilas que se apresuran a devorar. 9 Toda ella vendrá a la presa; el terror va delante de ella, y recogerá cautivos como arena. 10 Escarnecerá a los reyes, y de los príncipes hará burla; se reirá de toda fortaleza, y levantará terraplén y la tomará. 11 Luego pasará como el huracán, y ofenderá atribuyendo su fuerza a su dios.
Protesta de Habacuc
12 ¿No eres tú desde el principio, oh Jehová, Dios mío, Santo mío? No moriremos. Oh Jehová, para juicio lo pusiste; y tú, oh Roca, lo fundaste para castigar. 13 Muy limpio eres de ojos para ver el mal, ni puedes ver el agravio; ¿por qué ves a los menospreciadores, y callas cuando destruye el impío al más justo que él, 14 y haces que sean los hombres como los peces del mar, como reptiles que no tienen quien los gobierne? 15 Sacará a todos con anzuelo, los recogerá con su red, y los juntará en sus mallas; por lo cual se alegrará y se regocijará. 16 Por esto hará sacrificios a su red, y ofrecerá sahumerios a sus mallas; porque con ellas engordó su porción, y engrasó su comida. 17 ¿Vaciará por eso su red, y no tendrá piedad de aniquilar naciones continuamente?

1 Den profetia som profeten Habackuk skådade.
Profetens klagan över folkets ondska
2 Herre, hur länge skall jag ropa på hjälp,
utan att du hör,
ropa högt till dig över våld,
utan att du räddar?
3 Varför låter du mig se ondska,
och hur kan du själv se på sådant elände?
Fördärv och våld är inför mig,
split och kiv uppstår.
4 Därför blir lagen utan kraft,
och rätten kommer aldrig fram.
Den ogudaktige omringar den rättfärdige
och rätten blir förvrängd.
Herrens svar
5 Se er omkring bland hednafolken, ja, skåda!
Häpna, ja, häpna!
Ty en gärning utför jag i era dagar,
som ni inte kommer att tro när man berättar den.
6 Ty se, jag skall uppväcka kaldeerna,
det vilda och snabba folket,
som drar ut vida omkring på jorden
för att ta i besittning
boplatser som inte är deras.
7 De är fruktansvärda och hemska,
de avgör själva vad som är lag och rätt.
8 Deras hästar är snabbare än leoparder
och vildare än vargar om aftonen.
Deras ryttare spränger fram,
de kommer fjärran ifrån.
De flyger i väg likt örnen,
som störtar sig över sitt rov.
9 Alla kommer de för att utöva våld,
stridslystna rycker de fram
och samlar fångar som sand.
10 De gör kungar till åtlöje,
furstar hånar de.
De hånskrattar åt alla befästningar,
de kastar upp jordvallar och intar dem.
11 Så drar de vidare som vinden,
de fortsätter framåt
och ådrar sig skuld.
Deras egen styrka är deras gud.
Frågor om Guds rättfärdighet
12 Har inte du, Herre, alltid varit till,
du min Gud, min Helige?
Vi skall inte dö!
Herre, till en dom har du satt dem,
till en tillrättavisning har du berett dem,
du vår klippa.
13 Dina ögon är för rena för att se på det onda.
Du som inte står ut med att se någon orätt,
hur kan du då se på de trolösa
och tiga när den ogudaktige slukar
den som är mer rättfärdig än han?
14 Du gör människorna lika fiskarna i havet,
lika kräldjuren som inte har någon herre.
15 De drar upp dem alla med sin krok
och fångar dem i sitt nät.
De samlar dem i sitt garn,
därför jublar de och är glada.
16 Därför offrar de åt sitt nät
och tänder rökelse åt sitt garn.
Genom dem blir deras andel fet
och deras mat välsmakande.
17 Men skall de då få vittja sitt nät
och ständigt dräpa folken utan förskoning?

Habakkuk’s First Prayer
2 How long,(C) Lord, must I call for help(D)
and you do not listen
or cry out to you about violence(E)
and you do not save?
3 Why do you force me to look at injustice?(F)
Why do you tolerate[a] wrongdoing?
Oppression and violence are right in front of me.
Strife is ongoing, and conflict escalates.
4 This is why the law is ineffective
and justice never emerges.
For the wicked restrict(G) the righteous;
therefore, justice(H) comes out perverted.
God’s First Answer
5 Look at the nations[b](I) and observe(J) –
be utterly astounded!(K)
For I am doing something in your days
that you will not believe(L)
when you hear about it.(M)
6 Look! I am raising up(N) the Chaldeans,[c]
that bitter,(O) impetuous nation
that marches across the earth’s open spaces
to seize territories not its own.
7 They are fierce(P) and terrifying;
their views of justice and sovereignty
stem from themselves.
8 Their horses are swifter(Q) than leopards(R)
and fiercer[d] than wolves of the night.
Their horsemen charge ahead;
their horsemen come from distant lands.
They fly like eagles, swooping to devour.(S)
9 All of them come to do violence;
their faces(T) are set in determination.[e]
They gather(U) prisoners like sand.(V)
10 They mock(W) kings,
and rulers are a joke to them.
They laugh(X) at every fortress
and build siege ramps to capture(Y) it.
11 Then they sweep(Z) by like the wind
and pass through.
They are guilty;[f] their strength is their god.
Habakkuk’s Second Prayer
12 Are you not from eternity, Lord my God?(AA)
My Holy One,(AB) you[g] will not die.
Lord, you appointed them to execute judgement;
my Rock,(AC) you destined them to punish us.
13 Your eyes(AD) are too pure(AE) to look on evil,
and you cannot tolerate wrongdoing.
So why do you tolerate those who are treacherous?(AF)
Why are you silent
while one[h] who is wicked swallows up
one[i] who is more righteous than himself?
14 You have made mankind
like the fish of the sea,(AG)
like marine creatures that have no ruler.
15 The Chaldeans pull them all up with a hook,
catch them in their dragnet,(AH)
and gather them in their fishing net;
that is why they are glad and rejoice.
16 That is why they sacrifice to their dragnet
and burn incense to their fishing net,
for by these things their portion is rich
and their food plentiful.(AI)
17 Will they therefore empty their net
and continually slaughter nations without mercy?

Habakkuk’s Complaint
2 How long,(B) Lord, must I call for help,
but you do not listen?(C)
Or cry out to you, “Violence!”
but you do not save?(D)
3 Why do you make me look at injustice?
Why do you tolerate(E) wrongdoing?(F)
Destruction and violence(G) are before me;
there is strife,(H) and conflict abounds.
4 Therefore the law(I) is paralyzed,
and justice never prevails.
The wicked hem in the righteous,
so that justice(J) is perverted.(K)
The Lord’s Answer
5 “Look at the nations and watch—
and be utterly amazed.(L)
For I am going to do something in your days
that you would not believe,
even if you were told.(M)
6 I am raising up the Babylonians,[a](N)
that ruthless and impetuous people,
who sweep across the whole earth(O)
to seize dwellings not their own.(P)
7 They are a feared and dreaded people;(Q)
they are a law to themselves
and promote their own honor.
8 Their horses are swifter(R) than leopards,
fiercer than wolves(S) at dusk.
Their cavalry gallops headlong;
their horsemen come from afar.
They fly like an eagle swooping to devour;
9 they all come intent on violence.
Their hordes[b] advance like a desert wind
and gather prisoners(T) like sand.
10 They mock kings
and scoff at rulers.(U)
They laugh at all fortified cities;
by building earthen ramps(V) they capture them.
11 Then they sweep past like the wind(W) and go on—
guilty people, whose own strength is their god.”(X)
Habakkuk’s Second Complaint
12 Lord, are you not from everlasting?(Y)
My God, my Holy One,(Z) you[c] will never die.(AA)
You, Lord, have appointed(AB) them to execute judgment;
you, my Rock,(AC) have ordained them to punish.
13 Your eyes are too pure(AD) to look on evil;
you cannot tolerate wrongdoing.(AE)
Why then do you tolerate(AF) the treacherous?(AG)
Why are you silent while the wicked
swallow up those more righteous than themselves?(AH)
14 You have made people like the fish in the sea,
like the sea creatures that have no ruler.
15 The wicked(AI) foe pulls all of them up with hooks,(AJ)
he catches them in his net,(AK)
he gathers them up in his dragnet;
and so he rejoices and is glad.
16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net
and burns incense(AL) to his dragnet,
for by his net he lives in luxury
and enjoys the choicest food.
17 Is he to keep on emptying his net,
destroying nations without mercy?(AM)
