1 Este es el mensaje que el profeta Habacuc recibió en una visión.
Primera queja de Habacuc
2 ¿Hasta cuándo debo pedir ayuda, oh Señor?
¡Pero tú no escuchas!
«¡Hay violencia por todas partes!», clamo,
pero tú no vienes a salvar.
3 ¿Tendré siempre que ver estas maldades?
¿Por qué debo mirar tanta miseria?
Dondequiera que mire,
veo destrucción y violencia.
Estoy rodeado de gente
que le encanta discutir y pelear.
4 La ley se ha estancado
y no hay justicia en los tribunales.
Los perversos suman más que los justos,
de manera que la justicia se ha corrompido.
Respuesta del Señor
5 El Señor respondió:
«Observen las naciones;
¡mírenlas y asómbrense![a]
Pues estoy haciendo algo en sus propios días,
algo que no creerían
aun si alguien les dijera.
6 Estoy levantando a los babilonios,[b]
un pueblo cruel y violento.
Marcharán por todo el mundo
y conquistarán otras tierras.
7 Son reconocidos por su crueldad
y hacen lo que se les antoja.
8 Sus caballos son más veloces que guepardos[c]
y más feroces que lobos al anochecer.
Sus jinetes arremeten desde lejos.
Como águilas, se lanzan en picada para devorar a sus presas.
9 »Vienen sin tregua, decididos a la violencia.
Sus multitudes avanzan como el viento del desierto,
barriendo cautivos a su paso como si fueran arena.
10 Se burlan de reyes y príncipes
y menosprecian todas sus fortalezas.
¡Simplemente hacen rampas de tierra
contra las murallas y las toman por asalto!
11 Arrasan como el viento
y desaparecen.
Pero son profundamente culpables,
porque hicieron de su propia fuerza un dios».
Segunda queja de Habacuc
12 Oh Señor mi Dios, Santo mío, tú que eres eterno,
¡no puede ser que estés planeando acabar con nosotros!
Oh Señor, nuestra Roca, tú has enviado a los babilonios para corregirnos
y castigarnos por nuestros muchos pecados.
13 Pero tú eres puro y no soportas ver la maldad.
¿Serás indiferente ante la traición de ellos?
¿Guardarás silencio mientras los perversos
se tragan a gente más justa que ellos?
14 ¿Somos tan solo peces para ser capturados y matados?
¿Somos simples criaturas del mar que no tienen quien las guíe?
15 ¿Tenemos que terminar ensartados en sus ganchos
y atrapados en sus redes, mientras ellos se alegran y celebran?
16 Entonces adorarán a sus redes
y quemarán incienso frente a ellas.
«¡Estas redes son los dioses
que nos han hecho ricos!», exclamarán.
17 ¿Permitirás que se salgan con la suya para siempre?
¿Tendrán siempre éxito en sus conquistas despiadadas?

1 Esta es la profecía que el profeta Habacuc recibió en visión.
La primera queja de Habacuc
2 ¿Hasta cuándo, Señor, he de pedirte ayuda
sin que tú me escuches?
¿Hasta cuándo he de clamar «¡violencia!»,
sin que tú nos salves?
3 ¿Por qué me haces presenciar tanta iniquidad?
¿Por qué toleras la maldad?
Veo ante mis ojos destrucción y violencia;
surgen riñas y abundan las contiendas.
4 Por lo tanto, se debilita la Ley
y no prevalece la justicia.
El malvado acosa al justo
y se pervierte la justicia.
La respuesta del Señor
5 «¡Miren a las naciones!
¡Contémplenlas y quédense asombrados!
Estoy por hacer en estos días una obra,
que si se la contara, no la creerían.
6 Estoy incitando a los babilonios,[a]
ese pueblo despiadado e impetuoso,
que recorre toda la tierra
para apoderarse de territorios ajenos.
7 Son un pueblo temible y espantoso,
que impone su propia justicia
y promueve su propia honra.
8 Sus caballos son más veloces que leopardos,
más feroces que lobos nocturnos.
Su caballería se lanza a todo galope;
sus jinetes vienen de muy lejos.
Vuelan como águilas que se lanzan dispuestas a devorar.
9 Todos vienen para hacer violencia;
avanzan sus hordas[b] como el viento del desierto,
hacen prisioneros como quien recoge arena.
10 Ridiculizan a los reyes,
se burlan de los gobernantes;
se ríen de toda ciudad amurallada,
pues construyen rampas y la toman.
11 Son un viento que a su paso arrasa todo;
su pecado es hacer de su fuerza un dios».
La segunda queja de Habacuc
12 ¿No eres tú, Señor, desde la eternidad?
¡Tú, mi Dios, mi santo, no morirás![c]
Tú, Señor, los has puesto para hacer justicia;
tú, mi Roca, los has puesto para ejecutar tu castigo.
13 Son tan puros tus ojos que no puedes ver el mal;
no te es posible contemplar la opresión.
¿Por qué entonces toleras a los traidores?
¿Por qué guardas silencio
mientras los malvados se tragan a los más justos que ellos?
14 Has hecho a los hombres como peces del mar,
como reptiles que no tienen jefe.
15 El malvado los saca a todos con anzuelo,
los arrastra con sus redes,
los recoge entre sus mallas,
y así se alegra y regocija.
16 Por lo tanto, ofrece sacrificios a sus redes
y quema incienso a sus mallas,
pues gracias a sus redes su porción es sabrosa
y su comida es suculenta.
17 ¿Continuará vaciando sus redes
y matando sin piedad a las naciones?

1 The revelation which Habakkuk the prophet saw. 2 Yahweh,[a] how long will I cry, and you will not hear? I cry out to you “Violence!” and will you not save? 3 Why do you show me iniquity, and look at perversity? For destruction and violence are before me. There is strife, and contention rises up. 4 Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails; for the wicked surround the righteous; therefore justice comes out perverted.
5 “Look among the nations, watch, and wonder marvelously; for I am working a work in your days which you will not believe though it is told you. 6 For, behold,[b] I am raising up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation who march through the width of the earth, to possess dwelling places that are not theirs. 7 They are feared and dreaded. Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves. 8 Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves. Their horsemen press proudly on. Yes, their horsemen come from afar. They fly as an eagle that hurries to devour. 9 All of them come for violence. Their hordes face forward. They gather prisoners like sand. 10 Yes, they scoff at kings, and princes are a derision to them. They laugh at every stronghold, for they build up an earthen ramp and take it. 11 Then they sweep by like the wind and go on. They are indeed guilty, whose strength is their god.”
12 Aren’t you from everlasting, Yahweh my God,[c] my Holy One? We will not die. Yahweh, you have appointed them for judgment. You, Rock, have established him to punish. 13 You who have purer eyes than to see evil, and who cannot look on perversity, why do you tolerate those who deal treacherously and keep silent when the wicked swallows up the man who is more righteous than he, 14 and make men like the fish of the sea, like the creeping things that have no ruler over them? 15 He takes up all of them with the hook. He catches them in his net and gathers them in his dragnet. Therefore he rejoices and is glad. 16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, because by them his life is luxurious and his food is good. 17 Will he therefore continually empty his net, and kill the nations without mercy?

5 „Nézzétek a nemzeteket,
és lássátok,
ámuljatok és csodálkozzatok!
Mert oly dolgot teszek napjaitokban,
amelyet el sem hinnétek,
ha csak hírét hallanátok.
6 Nézzétek!
Megnövelem a káldeusok[a] hatalmát,
kiterjesztem birodalmukat.
Kegyetlen és erőszakos nép ez,
meghódít messzi földeket,
elfoglalja mások lakóhelyét,
leigázza a népeket.
7 Rettenetes és félelmetes nép,
amely maga szabja törvényét,
nem tisztel senkit.
8 Lovaik gyorsabbak, mint a párducok,
vadabbak, mint az éhes farkasok.
Lovasaik serege messzi földeket bejár,
vágtatva repülnek, hirtelen támadnak,
ahogy a sas lecsap zsákmányára.
9 Erőszakosak, mindent letipornak,
mind előre néz, amint vonulnak,
s annyi foglyot ejtenek,
mint tenger partján a homok.
10 Kinevetik a királyokat,

12 Örökkévaló! Te vagy a Szent,
te vagy az Isten
ősidőktől fogva és örökké!
Mégsem fogunk elpusztulni!
Te rendelted a káldeusokat,
hogy ítéleted végrehajtsák.
Kősziklám, te akartad,
hogy ők büntessenek bennünket.
13 Tisztább a szemed,
mintsem hogy elnézd a gonoszságot,
s tétlenül nézd az igazságtalanságot!
Miért tűröd hát
ezeket a gonoszokat?
Miért hallgatsz,
mikor az igazabbat pusztítják?
14 Olyanná tetted az embert,
mint a tenger halait,
vagy mint a férgeket,
amelyeknek nincs vezérük!
15 Az ellenség úgy ejti őket fogságba,
mint a horgász a halakat.
Úgy keríti hatalmába a foglyokat,
mint a halászok hálója a zsákmányt,
s együtt örülnek a fogásnak.
16 Ezért mutat be áldozatot hálójának,
ezért áldoz tömjénfüsttel kerítőhálójának,
hiszen így szerez gazdagságot,
így jut bőséges élelemhez.
17 Meddig teheti ezt még?
Szüntelenül pusztíthatja
a népeket, kegyetlenül?

Habakkuk’s Complaint
2 How long,(B) Lord, must I call for help,
but you do not listen?(C)
Or cry out to you, “Violence!”
but you do not save?(D)
3 Why do you make me look at injustice?
Why do you tolerate(E) wrongdoing?(F)
Destruction and violence(G) are before me;
there is strife,(H) and conflict abounds.
4 Therefore the law(I) is paralyzed,
and justice never prevails.
The wicked hem in the righteous,
so that justice(J) is perverted.(K)
The Lord’s Answer
5 “Look at the nations and watch—
and be utterly amazed.(L)
For I am going to do something in your days
that you would not believe,
even if you were told.(M)
6 I am raising up the Babylonians,[a](N)
that ruthless and impetuous people,
who sweep across the whole earth(O)
to seize dwellings not their own.(P)
7 They are a feared and dreaded people;(Q)
they are a law to themselves
and promote their own honor.
8 Their horses are swifter(R) than leopards,
fiercer than wolves(S) at dusk.
Their cavalry gallops headlong;
their horsemen come from afar.
They fly like an eagle swooping to devour;
9 they all come intent on violence.
Their hordes[b] advance like a desert wind
and gather prisoners(T) like sand.
10 They mock kings
and scoff at rulers.(U)
They laugh at all fortified cities;
by building earthen ramps(V) they capture them.
11 Then they sweep past like the wind(W) and go on—
guilty people, whose own strength is their god.”(X)
Habakkuk’s Second Complaint
12 Lord, are you not from everlasting?(Y)
My God, my Holy One,(Z) you[c] will never die.(AA)
You, Lord, have appointed(AB) them to execute judgment;
you, my Rock,(AC) have ordained them to punish.
13 Your eyes are too pure(AD) to look on evil;
you cannot tolerate wrongdoing.(AE)
Why then do you tolerate(AF) the treacherous?(AG)
Why are you silent while the wicked
swallow up those more righteous than themselves?(AH)
14 You have made people like the fish in the sea,
like the sea creatures that have no ruler.
15 The wicked(AI) foe pulls all of them up with hooks,(AJ)
he catches them in his net,(AK)
he gathers them up in his dragnet;
and so he rejoices and is glad.
16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net
and burns incense(AL) to his dragnet,
for by his net he lives in luxury
and enjoys the choicest food.
17 Is he to keep on emptying his net,
destroying nations without mercy?(AM)
