³⁸ Therefore, let it be known to you, brothers and sisters, that through this man forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you.^{(A) 39} Everyone who believes is justified^[a] through him from everything that you could not be justified from through the law of Moses.^(B)

¹¹ On the contrary, we believe that we are saved through the grace^(A) of the Lord Jesus in the same way they are.”

³¹ They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”^(A)

¹⁷ For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith,^[a](A) just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.^[b][c](B)

²⁸ For we conclude that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.^(A)

² If Abraham was justified^[a] by works,^(A) he has something to boast about—but not before God. ³ For what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness.^{[b](B) 4} Now to the one who works,^(C) pay is not credited as a gift, but as something owed. ⁵ But to the one who does not work, but believes on him who justifies the ungodly,^(D) his faith is credited for righteousness.

Faith Triumphs

5 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,^(A) we have peace^[a] with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.^{(B) 2} We have also obtained access through him^(C) by faith^[b] into this grace in which we stand,^(D) and we boast^[c] in the hope of the glory of God.

⁶ just like Abraham who believed God,^(A) and it was credited to him for righteousness?^[a](B)

⁷ You know, then, that those who have faith, these are Abraham’s sons.^{(C) 8} Now the Scripture saw in advance that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and proclaimed the gospel ahead of time to Abraham,^(D) saying, All the nations^[b] will be blessed through you.^{[c](E) 9} Consequently, those who have faith are blessed with Abraham,^(F) who had faith.^[d]

Law and Promise

¹⁰ For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse,^(G) because it is written,^(H) Everyone who does not do everything written in the book of the law is cursed.^{[e](I) 11} Now it is clear that no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous will live^(J) by faith.^{[f](K) 12} But the law is not based on faith; instead, the one who does these things will live by them.^{[g](L) 13} Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us,^(M) because it is written, Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.^{[h](N) 14} The purpose was that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles by Christ Jesus, so that we could receive the promised Spirit through faith.^(O)
