Lying Prophets

⁹ Concerning the prophets:

⁸ So I was left alone,^(A) gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left,^(B) my face turned deathly pale^(C) and I was helpless.^(D)

⁶ God is just:^(A) He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you^{(B) 7} and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven^(C) in blazing fire^(D) with his powerful angels.^{(E) 8} He will punish^(F) those who do not know God^(G) and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.^{(H) 9} They will be punished with everlasting destruction^(I) and shut out from the presence of the Lord^(J) and from the glory of his might^(K)

The Lord’s Answer

³ You said, ‘Woe^(A) to me! The Lord has added sorrow^(B) to my pain;^(C) I am worn out with groaning^(D) and find no rest.’^{(E) 4} But the Lord has told me to say to you, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot^(F) what I have planted,^(G) throughout the earth.^{(H) 5} Should you then seek great^(I) things for yourself? Do not seek them.^(J) For I will bring disaster^(K) on all people,^(L) declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape^(M) with your life.’”^(N)

⁹ I will summon^(A) all the peoples of the north^(B) and my servant^(C) Nebuchadnezzar^(D) king of Babylon,” declares the Lord, “and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy^[a](E) them and make them an object of horror and scorn,^(F) and an everlasting ruin.^{(G) 10} I will banish from them the sounds^(H) of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom,^(I) the sound of millstones^(J) and the light of the lamp.^{(K) 11} This whole country will become a desolate wasteland,^(L) and these nations will serve^(M) the king of Babylon seventy years.^(N)
