Gesú e Nicodemo: la nuova nascita

3 (A)C'era tra i *farisei un uomo chiamato *Nicodemo, uno dei capi dei Giudei. 2 Egli venne di notte da Gesú, e gli disse: «*Rabbí, noi sappiamo che tu sei un *dottore venuto da Dio; perché nessuno può fare questi miracoli[a] che tu fai, se Dio non è con lui». 3 Gesú gli rispose: «In verità, in verità ti dico che se uno non è nato di nuovo[b] non può vedere il regno di Dio». 4 Nicodemo gli disse: «Come può un uomo nascere quando è già vecchio? Può egli entrare una seconda volta nel grembo di sua madre e nascere?» 5 Gesú rispose: «In verità, in verità ti dico che se uno non è nato d'acqua e di Spirito, non può entrare nel regno di Dio. 6 Quello che è nato dalla carne, è carne; e quello che è nato dallo Spirito, è spirito. 7 Non ti meravigliare se ti ho detto: “Bisogna che nasciate di nuovo[c]”. 8 Il vento soffia dove vuole, e tu ne odi il rumore, ma non sai né da dove viene né dove va; cosí è di chiunque è nato dallo Spirito». 9 Nicodemo replicò e gli disse: «Come possono avvenire queste cose?» 10 Gesú gli rispose: «Tu sei maestro d'*Israele e non sai queste cose? 11 In verità, in verità ti dico che noi parliamo di ciò che sappiamo e testimoniamo di ciò che abbiamo visto; ma voi non ricevete la nostra testimonianza. 12 Se vi ho parlato delle cose terrene e non credete, come crederete se vi parlerò delle cose celesti? 13 Nessuno è salito in cielo, se non colui che è disceso dal cielo: il *Figlio dell'uomo [che è nel cielo].

14 (B)«E, come *Mosè innalzò il serpente nel deserto, cosí bisogna che il Figlio dell'uomo sia innalzato, 15 affinché chiunque crede in lui abbia vita eterna. 16 Perché Dio ha tanto amato il mondo, che ha dato il suo unigenito Figlio[d], affinché chiunque crede in lui non perisca, ma abbia vita eterna. 17 Infatti Dio non ha mandato suo Figlio nel mondo per giudicare il mondo, ma perché il mondo sia salvato per mezzo di lui. 18 Chi crede in lui non è giudicato; chi non crede è già giudicato, perché non ha creduto nel nome dell'unigenito *Figlio di Dio. 19 Il giudizio è questo: la luce è venuta nel mondo e gli uomini hanno preferito le tenebre alla luce, perché le loro opere erano malvagie. 20 Perché chiunque fa cose malvagie odia la luce e non viene alla luce, affinché le sue opere non siano scoperte; 21 ma chi mette in pratica la verità viene alla luce, affinché le sue opere siano manifestate, perché sono fatte in Dio».

Nuova testimonianza di Giovanni il battista

22 (C)Dopo queste cose, Gesú andò con i suoi discepoli nelle campagne della *Giudea; là si trattenne con loro e battezzava. 23 Anche *Giovanni stava battezzando a Enon, presso Salim[e], perché là c'era molta acqua; e la gente veniva a farsi battezzare. 24 Giovanni, infatti, non era ancora stato messo in prigione.

25 Nacque dunque una discussione sulla purificazione, tra i discepoli di Giovanni e un Giudeo. 26 E andarono da Giovanni e gli dissero: «Rabbí, colui che era con te di là dal *Giordano, e al quale rendesti testimonianza, eccolo che battezza, e tutti vanno da lui». 27 Giovanni rispose: «L'uomo non può ricevere nulla se non gli è dato dal cielo. 28 Voi stessi mi siete testimoni che ho detto: “Io non sono il Cristo, ma sono mandato davanti a lui”. 29 Colui che ha la *sposa è lo sposo; ma l'amico dello sposo, che è presente e l'ascolta, si rallegra vivamente alla voce dello sposo; questa gioia, che è la mia, è ora completa. 30 Bisogna che egli cresca, e che io diminuisca. 31 Colui che viene dall'alto è sopra tutti; colui che viene dalla terra è della terra e parla come uno che è della terra; colui che vien dal cielo è sopra tutti. 32 Egli rende testimonianza di quello che ha visto e udito, ma nessuno riceve la sua testimonianza. 33 Chi ha ricevuto la sua testimonianza ha confermato[f] che Dio è veritiero. 34 Perché colui che Dio ha mandato dice le parole di Dio; Dio infatti non dà lo Spirito con misura. 35 Il Padre ama il Figlio, e gli ha dato ogni cosa in mano. 36 Chi crede nel Figlio ha vita eterna, chi invece rifiuta di credere al Figlio non vedrà la vita, ma l'ira di Dio rimane su di lui».

– Рабби[a], мы знаем, что Ты Учитель, пришедший от Всевышнего, потому что без Всевышнего никто не может творить таких знамений, какие Ты творишь.

3 В ответ Иса сказал:

– Говорю тебе истину, никто не сможет увидеть Царства Всевышнего, если не будет заново рождён[b].

4 – Как это человек может быть рождён ещё раз, когда он уже стар? – удивился Никодим. – Не может же он опять войти в утробу своей матери и снова родиться!

5 Иса ответил:

– Говорю тебе истину: никто не сможет войти в Царство Всевышнего, если не будет рождён от воды и Духа.[c] 6 От плоти рождается плоть, а Дух рождает дух. 7 Не удивляйся тому, что Я сказал: вы должны быть заново рождены. 8 Ветер[d] дует, где хочет. Ты слышишь его шум, но не можешь определить, откуда он приходит и куда уходит. Так же и с каждым рождённым от Духа.

9 – Как это может быть? – спросил Никодим.

10 Иса ответил:

– Ты – учитель Исраила, и ты этого не понимаешь? 11 Говорю тебе истину: мы говорим о том, что знаем, и свидетельствуем о том, что видели, но вы не принимаете нашего свидетельства. 12 Если Я сказал вам о земных вещах, и вы не верите, то как же вы поверите, если Я буду говорить вам о небесном?

13 Никто не поднимался на небо, кроме Того, Кто сошёл с неба, то есть Ниспосланного как Человек, сущего на небесах. 14 И как Муса высоко поднял змея в пустыне[e], так будет поднят и Ниспосланный как Человек,[f] 15 чтобы каждый, кто поверит в Него, имел жизнь вечную.

16 Ведь Всевышний так полюбил этот мир, что отдал Своего единственного Сына[g], чтобы каждый верующий в Него не погиб, но имел вечную жизнь. 17 Всевышний послал Сына в мир не затем, чтобы осудить мир, но чтобы спасти[h] мир через Него. 18 Верующий в Него не будет судим. Кто же не верит, тот уже осуждён, потому что он не поверил в единственного Сына Всевышнего[i]. 19 Суд заключается в том, что в мир пришёл Свет, но люди полюбили тьму больше, чем Свет, потому что их дела были злы. 20 Ведь каждый, кто делает зло, ненавидит Свет и не идёт к Свету, чтобы не обнаружились его дела. 21 Но кто живёт по истине, тот, наоборот, идёт к Свету, чтобы было ясно видно, что его дела совершены в послушании Всевышнему.

Пророк Яхия свидетельствует об Исе Масихе

22 После этого Иса с учениками пошёл в Иудею. Там Иса пробыл с ними некоторое время и совершал над народом обряд погружения в воду.[j] 23 Яхия тоже продолжал совершать обряд погружения в воду в Еноне, у Салима, потому что там было много воды. Люди постоянно приходили к нему, чтобы пройти у него этот обряд. 24 Это было ещё до того, как Яхию заключили в темницу. 25 Между некоторыми из учеников Яхии и одним иудеем возник спор об обрядовом очищении. 26 Они пришли к Яхии и сказали:

– Учитель, Тот Человек, Который был с тобой на другой стороне реки Иордана и о Котором ты свидетельствовал, сейчас Сам совершает над людьми обряд погружения в воду, и все идут к Нему.

27 Яхия ответил:

– Человек может делать только то, что ему поручено Небесами. 28 Вы сами свидетели тому, что я говорил: «Я не Масих, но я послан, чтобы идти впереди Него». 29 Невеста принадлежит жениху. Друг же жениха стоит рядом, слушает его радостный голос и сам радуется его счастью. В этом и моя радость, и сейчас она исполнилась.[k] 30 Ему предстоит возвеличиваться, а мне умаляться.

31 Тот, Кто свыше приходит, выше всех, а земной принадлежит земле и говорит по-земному, но Пришедший с небес – превыше всех! 32 Он свидетельствует о том, что Он Сам видел и слышал, но никто не принимает Его свидетельства. 33 Тот же, кто принимает, свидетельствует, что Всевышний истинен. 34 Посланный Всевышним говорит слова Всевышнего, и Всевышний даёт Ему Своего Духа без всякого ограничения. 35 Отец любит Сына и всё отдал в Его руки. 36 Верующий в Сына имеет жизнь вечную, тот же, кто отвергает Сына, не увидит жизни, и его ожидает гнев Всевышнего.

A Conversation with Nicodemus

3 Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Jewish council. 2 He came to Yeshua one night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that God has sent you as a teacher. No one can perform the miracles you perform unless God is with him.”

3 Yeshua replied to Nicodemus, “I can guarantee this truth: No one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.”[a]

4 Nicodemus asked him, “How can anyone be born when he’s an old man? He can’t go back inside his mother a second time to be born, can he?”

5 Yeshua answered Nicodemus, “I can guarantee this truth: No one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh and blood give birth to flesh and blood, but the Spirit gives birth to things that are spiritual. 7 Don’t be surprised when I tell you that all of you must be born from above. 8 The wind[b] blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you don’t know where the wind comes from or where it’s going. That’s the way it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

9 Nicodemus replied, “How can that be?”

10 Yeshua told Nicodemus, “You’re a well-known teacher of Israel. Can’t you understand this? 11 I can guarantee this truth: We know what we’re talking about, and we confirm what we’ve seen. Yet, you don’t accept our message. 12 If you don’t believe me when I tell you about things on earth, how will you believe me when I tell you about things in heaven? 13 No one has gone to heaven except the Son of Man, who came from heaven.

14 “As Moses lifted up the snake on a pole in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up. 15 Then everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.”

16 God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but to save the world. 18 Those who believe in him won’t be condemned. But those who don’t believe are already condemned because they don’t believe in God’s only Son.

19 This is why people are condemned: The light came into the world. Yet, people loved the dark rather than the light because their actions were evil. 20 People who do what is wrong hate the light and don’t come to the light. They don’t want their actions to be exposed. 21 But people who do what is true come to the light so that the things they do for God may be clearly seen.

John the Baptizer Talks about Christ

22 Later, Yeshua and his disciples went to the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them and baptized people. 23 John was baptizing in Aenon, near Salim. Water was plentiful there. (People came to John to be baptized, 24 since John had not yet been put in prison.)

25 Some of John’s disciples had an argument with a Jew about purification ceremonies. 26 So they went to John and asked him, “Rabbi, do you remember the man you spoke so favorably about when he was with you on the other side of the Jordan River? Well, he’s baptizing, and everyone is going to him!”

27 John answered, “People can’t receive anything unless it has been given to them from heaven. 28 You are witnesses that I said, ‘I’m not the Messiah, but I’ve been sent ahead of him.’

29 “The groom is the person to whom the bride belongs. The best man, who stands and listens to him, is overjoyed when the groom speaks. This is the joy that I feel. 30 He must increase in importance, while I must decrease in importance.

31 “The person who comes from above is superior to everyone. I, a person from the earth, know nothing but what is on earth, and that’s all I can talk about. The person who comes from heaven is superior to everyone 32 and tells what he has seen and heard. Yet, no one accepts what he says. 33 I have accepted what that person said, and I have affirmed that God is truthful. 34 The man whom God has sent speaks God’s message. After all, God gives him the Spirit without limit. 35 The Father loves his Son and has put everything in his power. 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, he will see God’s constant anger.”

Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

3 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus(A) who was a member of the Jewish ruling council.(B) 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi,(C) we know(D) that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs(E) you are doing if God were not with him.”(F)

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]”(G)

4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.(H) 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit.(I) 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[d](J)

9 “How can this be?”(K) Nicodemus asked.

10 “You are Israel’s teacher,”(L) said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know,(M) and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony.(N) 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven(O) except the one who came from heaven(P)—the Son of Man.[e](Q) 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness,(R) so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[f](S) 15 that everyone who believes(T) may have eternal life in him.”[g](U)

16 For God so loved(V) the world that he gave(W) his one and only Son,(X) that whoever believes(Y) in him shall not perish but have eternal life.(Z) 17 For God did not send his Son into the world(AA) to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.(AB) 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned,(AC) but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.(AD) 19 This is the verdict: Light(AE) has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.(AF) 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.(AG) 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

John Testifies Again About Jesus

22 After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized.(AH) 23 Now John(AI) also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were coming and being baptized. 24 (This was before John was put in prison.)(AJ) 25 An argument developed between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing.(AK) 26 They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi,(AL) that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified(AM) about—look, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him.”

27 To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. 28 You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’(AN) 29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom.(AO) The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.(AP) 30 He must become greater; I must become less.”[h]

31 The one who comes from above(AQ) is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth.(AR) The one who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He testifies to what he has seen and heard,(AS) but no one accepts his testimony.(AT) 33 Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. 34 For the one whom God has sent(AU) speaks the words of God, for God[i] gives the Spirit(AV) without limit. 35 The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands.(AW) 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life,(AX) but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.
