Primo miracolo a Cana
2 (A)Tre giorni dopo ci fu un matrimonio in Cana di Galilea, e la madre di Gesù era là. 2 Anche Gesù fu invitato con i suoi discepoli al matrimonio. 3 Venuto a mancare il vino, la madre di Gesù gli disse: «Non hanno più vino». 4 Gesù le disse: «Che c’è fra me e te, o donna? L’ora mia non è ancora venuta». 5 Sua madre disse ai servitori: «Fate tutto quel che vi dirà». 6 C’erano là sei recipienti di pietra, del tipo adoperato per la purificazione dei Giudei, i quali contenevano ciascuno due o tre misure[a]. 7 Gesù disse loro: «Riempite d’acqua i recipienti». Ed essi li riempirono fino all’orlo. 8 Poi disse loro: «Adesso attingete e portatene al maestro di tavola». Ed essi gliene portarono. 9 Quando il maestro di tavola ebbe assaggiato l’acqua che era diventata vino (egli non ne conosceva la provenienza, ma la sapevano bene i servitori che avevano attinto l’acqua), chiamò lo sposo e gli disse: 10 «Ognuno serve prima il vino buono, e quando si è bevuto abbondantemente, il meno buono; tu, invece, hai tenuto il vino buono fino ad ora».
11 Gesù fece questo primo dei suoi segni in Cana di Galilea, e manifestò la sua gloria, e i suoi discepoli credettero in lui.
12 Dopo questo, scese a Capernaum egli con sua madre, con i suoi fratelli e i suoi discepoli, e rimasero là alcuni giorni.
Gesù nel tempio
13 (B)La Pasqua dei Giudei era vicina, e Gesù salì a Gerusalemme. 14 Trovò nel tempio quelli che vendevano buoi, pecore, colombi, e i cambiavalute seduti. 15 Fatta una sferza di cordicelle, scacciò tutti fuori dal tempio, pecore e buoi; sparpagliò il denaro dei cambiavalute, rovesciò le tavole, 16 e a quelli che vendevano i colombi disse: «Portate via di qui queste cose; smettete di fare della casa del Padre mio una casa di mercato». 17 E i suoi discepoli si ricordarono che sta scritto:
«Lo zelo per la tua casa mi consuma[b]»[c].
18 I Giudei allora presero a dirgli: «Quale segno ci mostri per fare queste cose?» 19 Gesù rispose loro: «Distruggete questo tempio, e in tre giorni lo farò risorgere!» 20 Allora i Giudei dissero: «Quarantasei anni è durata la costruzione di questo tempio e tu lo faresti risorgere in tre giorni?» 21 Ma egli parlava del tempio del suo corpo. 22 Quando dunque fu risorto dai morti, i suoi discepoli si ricordarono che egli aveva detto questo[d], e credettero alla Scrittura e alla parola che Gesù aveva detta.
23 (C)Mentre egli era in Gerusalemme, alla festa di Pasqua, molti credettero nel suo nome vedendo i segni che egli faceva. 24 Ma Gesù non si fidava di loro, perché conosceva tutti, 25 e perché non aveva bisogno della testimonianza di nessuno sull’uomo, poiché egli stesso conosceva quello che era nell’uomo.

Water Turned to Wine
2 On the third day there was a (A)wedding in (B)Cana of Galilee, and the (C)mother of Jesus was there. 2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”
4 Jesus said to her, (D)“Woman, (E)what does your concern have to do with Me? (F)My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, (G)according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. 9 When the master of the feast had tasted (H)the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”
11 This (I)beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, (J)and [a]manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
12 After this He went down to (K)Capernaum, He, His mother, (L)His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.
Jesus Cleanses the Temple(M)
13 (N)Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 (O)And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers [b]doing business. 15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. 16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make (P)My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” 17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, (Q)“Zeal for Your house [c]has eaten Me up.”
18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, (R)“What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”
19 Jesus answered and said to them, (S)“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”
21 But He was speaking (T)of the temple of His body. 22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, (U)His disciples remembered that He had said this [d]to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.
The Discerner of Hearts
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the (V)signs which He did. 24 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He (W)knew all men, 25 and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for (X)He knew what was in man.

2 On Tuesday[a] there was a wedding at Kanah in the Galil; and the mother of Yeshua was there. 2 Yeshua too was invited to the wedding, along with his talmidim. 3 The wine ran out, and Yeshua’s mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” 4 Yeshua replied, “Mother, why should that concern me? — or you? My time hasn’t come yet.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Now six stone water-jars were standing there for the Jewish ceremonial washings, each with a capacity of twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Yeshua told them, “Fill the jars with water,” and they filled them to the brim. 8 He said, “Now draw some out, and take it to the man in charge of the banquet”; and they took it. 9 The man in charge tasted the water; it had now turned into wine! He did not know where it had come from, but the servants who had drawn the water knew. So he called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone else serves the good wine first and the poorer wine after people have drunk freely. But you have kept the good wine until now!” 11 This, the first of Yeshua’s miraculous signs, he did at Kanah in the Galil; he manifested his glory, and his talmidim came to trust in him. 12 Afterwards, he, his mother and brothers, and his talmidim went down to K’far-Nachum and stayed there a few days.
13 It was almost time for the festival of Pesach in Y’hudah, so Yeshua went up to Yerushalayim. 14 In the Temple grounds he found those who were selling cattle, sheep and pigeons, and others who were sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 He made a whip from cords and drove them all out of the Temple grounds, the sheep and cattle as well. He knocked over the money-changers’ tables, scattering their coins; 16 and to the pigeon-sellers he said, “Get these things out of here! How dare you turn my Father’s house into a market?” 17 (His talmidim later recalled that the Tanakh says, “Zeal for your house will devour me.” )[b] 18 So the Judeans confronted him by asking him, “What miraculous sign can you show us to prove you have the right to do all this?” 19 Yeshua answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up again.” 20 The Judeans said, “It took 46 years to build this Temple, and you’re going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the “temple” he had spoken of was his body. 22 Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his talmidim remembered that he had said this, and they trusted in the Tanakh and in what Yeshua had said.
23 Now while Yeshua was in Yerushalayim at the Pesach festival, there were many people who “believed in his name” when they saw the miracles he performed. 24 But he did not commit himself to them, for he knew what people are like — 25 that is, he didn’t need anyone to inform him about a person, because he knew what was in the person’s heart.
