2 Ma il Signore dispose che un grosso pesce inghiottisse Giona; Giona restò nel ventre del pesce tre giorni e tre notti. 2 Dal ventre del pesce Giona pregò il Signore suo Dio 3 e disse:
«Nella mia angoscia ho invocato il Signore
ed egli mi ha esaudito;
dal profondo degli inferi ho gridato
e tu hai ascoltato la mia voce.
4 Mi hai gettato nell'abisso, nel cuore del mare
e le correnti mi hanno circondato;
tutti i tuoi flutti e le tue onde
sono passati sopra di me.
5 Io dicevo: Sono scacciato
lontano dai tuoi occhi;
eppure tornerò a guardare il tuo santo tempio.
6 Le acque mi hanno sommerso fino alla gola,
l'abisso mi ha avvolto,
l'alga si è avvinta al mio capo.
7 Sono sceso alle radici dei monti,
la terra ha chiuso le sue spranghe
dietro a me per sempre.
Ma tu hai fatto risalire dalla fossa la mia vita,
Signore mio Dio.
8 Quando in me sentivo venir meno la vita,
ho ricordato il Signore.
La mia preghiera è giunta fino a te,
fino alla tua santa dimora.
9 Quelli che onorano vane nullità
abbandonano il loro amore.
10 Ma io con voce di lode offrirò a te un sacrificio
e adempirò il voto che ho fatto;
la salvezza viene dal Signore».
11 E il Signore comandò al pesce ed esso rigettò Giona sull'asciutto.

Giona nel ventre di un pesce; sua preghiera e sua liberazione
2 (A)Il Signore fece venire un gran pesce per inghiottire Giona. Giona rimase nel ventre del pesce tre giorni e tre notti.
2 Dal ventre del pesce Giona pregò il Signore, il suo Dio, e disse:
3 «Io ho gridato al Signore, dal fondo della mia angoscia, ed egli mi ha risposto; dalla profondità del soggiorno dei morti ho gridato e tu hai udito la mia voce.
4 Tu mi hai gettato nell’abisso, nel cuore del mare; la corrente mi ha circondato, tutte le tue onde e tutti i tuoi flutti mi hanno travolto.
5 Io dicevo: “Sono cacciato lontano dal tuo sguardo! Come potrei vedere ancora il tuo tempio santo?”
6 Le acque mi hanno sommerso, l’abisso mi ha inghiottito; le alghe si sono attorcigliate alla mia testa.
7 Sono sprofondato fino alle radici dei monti, la terra ha chiuso le sue sbarre su di me per sempre; ma tu mi hai fatto risalire dalla fossa, o Signore, mio Dio!
8 Quando la vita veniva meno in me, io mi sono ricordato del Signore e la mia preghiera è giunta fino a te, nel tuo tempio santo.
9 Quelli che onorano gli idoli vani allontanano da sé la grazia;
10 ma io ti offrirò sacrifici con canti di lode, adempirò i voti che ho fatto. La salvezza viene dal Signore».
11 E il Signore diede ordine al pesce, e il pesce vomitò Giona sulla terraferma.

2 (02-2) Allora Giona pregò l'Eterno, il suo DIO, dal ventre del pesce e disse:
2 (02-3) «Nella mia sventura ho gridato all'Eterno ed egli mi ha risposto dal grembo dello Sceol, ho gridato e tu hai udito la mia voce.
3 (02-4) Mi hai gettato in un luogo profondo, nel cuore dei mari, la corrente mi ha circondato e tutti i tuoi flutti e le tue onde mi sono passati sopra.
4 (02-5) Allora ho detto: Sono stato scacciato dalla tua presenza. Eppure guarderò ancora verso il tuo santo tempio.
5 (02-6) Le acque mi hanno circondato fino all'anima, l'abisso mi ha avvolto, le alghe si sono avvolte intorno al mio capo.
6 (02-7) Sono disceso fino alle fondamenta dei monti, la terra chiuse le sue sbarre dietro a me per sempre, ma tu hai fatto risalire la mia vita dalla fossa, o Eterno, mio DIO.
7 (02-8) Quando la mia anima veniva meno dentro di me, mi sono ricordato dell'Eterno, e la mia preghiera è giunta fino a te, nel tuo santo tempio.
8 (02-9) Quelli che riguardano alle vanità bugiarde abbandonano la fonte stessa della loro grazia.
9 (02-10) Ma io con voci di lode ti offrirò sacrifici a e adempirò i voti che ho fatto. La salvezza, appartiene all'Eterno».
10 (02-11) Allora l'Eterno parlò al pesce e il pesce vomitò Giona sull'asciutto.

2 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly,
2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
5 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.
7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.
10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

and he answered me.
From deep in the realm of the dead(C) I called for help,
and you listened to my cry.

into the very heart of the seas,
and the currents swirled about me;
all your waves(E) and breakers
swept over me.(F)
4 I said, ‘I have been banished
from your sight;(G)
yet I will look again
toward your holy temple.’(H)
5 The engulfing waters threatened me,[b]
the deep surrounded me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.(I)
6 To the roots of the mountains(J) I sank down;
the earth beneath barred me in forever.
But you, Lord my God,
brought my life up from the pit.(K)
7 “When my life was ebbing away,
I remembered(L) you, Lord,
and my prayer(M) rose to you,
to your holy temple.(N)
8 “Those who cling to worthless idols(O)
turn away from God’s love for them.
9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise,(P)
will sacrifice(Q) to you.
What I have vowed(R) I will make good.
I will say, ‘Salvation(S) comes from the Lord.’”
10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
