2 (02-2) Allora Giona pregò l'Eterno, il suo DIO, dal ventre del pesce e disse:
2 (02-3) «Nella mia sventura ho gridato all'Eterno ed egli mi ha risposto dal grembo dello Sceol, ho gridato e tu hai udito la mia voce.
3 (02-4) Mi hai gettato in un luogo profondo, nel cuore dei mari, la corrente mi ha circondato e tutti i tuoi flutti e le tue onde mi sono passati sopra.
4 (02-5) Allora ho detto: Sono stato scacciato dalla tua presenza. Eppure guarderò ancora verso il tuo santo tempio.
5 (02-6) Le acque mi hanno circondato fino all'anima, l'abisso mi ha avvolto, le alghe si sono avvolte intorno al mio capo.
6 (02-7) Sono disceso fino alle fondamenta dei monti, la terra chiuse le sue sbarre dietro a me per sempre, ma tu hai fatto risalire la mia vita dalla fossa, o Eterno, mio DIO.
7 (02-8) Quando la mia anima veniva meno dentro di me, mi sono ricordato dell'Eterno, e la mia preghiera è giunta fino a te, nel tuo santo tempio.
8 (02-9) Quelli che riguardano alle vanità bugiarde abbandonano la fonte stessa della loro grazia.
9 (02-10) Ma io con voci di lode ti offrirò sacrifici a e adempirò i voti che ho fatto. La salvezza, appartiene all'Eterno».
10 (02-11) Allora l'Eterno parlò al pesce e il pesce vomitò Giona sull'asciutto.

2 Iona s-a rugat Domnului, Dumnezeului său, din pântecele peştelui 2 şi a zis: „În strâmtorarea mea, am chemat(A) pe Domnul şi(B) m-a ascultat; din mijlocul Locuinţei morţilor am strigat şi mi-ai auzit glasul. 3 Şi totuşi mă aruncaseşi(C) în adânc, în inima mării, şi râurile de apă mă înconjuraseră; toate valurile(D) şi toate talazurile Tale au trecut peste mine. 4 Ziceam(E): ‘Sunt lepădat dinaintea ochilor Tăi! Dar iarăşi voi vedea Templul(F) Tău cel sfânt’. 5 Apele m-au acoperit(G) până aproape să-mi ia viaţa, adâncul m-a învăluit, papura s-a împletit în jurul capului meu. 6 M-am pogorât până la temeliile munţilor, zăvoarele pământului mă încuiau pe vecie, dar Tu m-ai scos viu(H) din groapă, Doamne, Dumnezeul meu! 7 Când îmi tânjea sufletul în mine, mi-am adus aminte de Domnul, şi rugăciunea mea(I) a ajuns până la Tine, în Templul Tău cel sfânt. 8 Cei ce se lipesc de idoli deşerţi(J) îndepărtează îndurarea de la ei. 9 Eu însă Îţi voi aduce jertfe(K) cu un strigăt de mulţumire, voi împlini juruinţele pe care le-am făcut. Mântuirea(L) vine de la Domnul.” 10 Domnul a vorbit peştelui, şi peştele a vărsat pe Iona pe pământ.

2 1 [a]From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. 2 He said:
“In my distress I called(A) to the Lord,(B)
and he answered me.
From deep in the realm of the dead(C) I called for help,
and you listened to my cry.
3 You hurled me into the depths,(D)
into the very heart of the seas,
and the currents swirled about me;
all your waves(E) and breakers
swept over me.(F)
4 I said, ‘I have been banished
from your sight;(G)
yet I will look again
toward your holy temple.’(H)
5 The engulfing waters threatened me,[b]
the deep surrounded me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.(I)
6 To the roots of the mountains(J) I sank down;
the earth beneath barred me in forever.
But you, Lord my God,
brought my life up from the pit.(K)
7 “When my life was ebbing away,
I remembered(L) you, Lord,
and my prayer(M) rose to you,
to your holy temple.(N)
8 “Those who cling to worthless idols(O)
turn away from God’s love for them.
9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise,(P)
will sacrifice(Q) to you.
What I have vowed(R) I will make good.
I will say, ‘Salvation(S) comes from the Lord.’”
10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
