2 Un giorno avvenne che i figli di DIO, andarono a presentarsi davanti all'Eterno, e in mezzo a loro andò anche Satana a presentarsi davanti all'Eterno.
2 L'Eterno disse a Satana: «Da dove vieni?». Satana rispose all'Eterno: «Dall'andare avanti e indietro sulla terra e dal percorrerla su e giú». L'Eterno disse a Satana:
3 «Hai notato il mio servo Giobbe? Poiché sulla terra non c'è nessun altro come lui, che sia integro, retto, tema DIO e fugga il male. Egli si mantiene saldo nella sua integrità, nonostante tu mi abbia istigato contro di lui per rovinarlo senza alcun motivo».
4 Allora Satana rispose all'Eterno e disse: «Pelle per pelle! Tutto ciò che possiede, l'uomo è disposto a darlo per la sua vita.
5 Ma stendi la tua mano e tocca le sue ossa e la sua carne e vedrai se non ti maledice in faccia».
6 L'Eterno disse a Satana: «Eccolo in tuo potere; risparmia però la sua vita».
7 Cosí Satana si ritirò dalla presenza dell'Eterno e colpí Giobbe di un'ulcera maligna dalla pianta dei piedi alla sommità del capo.
8 Giobbe prese un coccio per grattarsi e stava seduto in mezzo alla cenere.
9 Allora sua moglie gli disse: «Rimani ancora fermo nella tua integrità? Maledici DIO e muori!».
10 Ma egli disse a lei: «Tu parli come parlerebbe una donna insensata. Se da DIO accettiamo il bene, perché non dovremmo accettare anche il male?». In tutto questo Giobbe non peccò con le sue labbra.
11 Quando tre amici di Giobbe vennero a sapere di tutte queste sciagure che si erano abbattute su di lui, vennero ciascuno dal suo paese, Elifaz di Teman, Bildad di Shuah e Tsofar di Naamath; essi infatti si erano messi d'accordo per venire a fargli le condoglianze e a consolarlo.
12 Alzarono gli occhi da lontano ma non lo poterono riconoscere; allora si misero a piangere a gran voce, e ognuno si stracciò le vesti e si cosparse il capo di polvere gettandola verso il cielo.
13 Poi si sedettero accanto a lui per sette giorni e sette notti, e nessuno gli rivolse una sola parola, perché vedevano che il suo dolore era molto grande.

2 Tsiku linanso pamene ana a Mulungu anabwera kudzadzionetsa pamaso pa Yehova, nayenso Satana anabwera nawo limodzi kudzadzionetsa pamaso pa Yehova. 2 Ndipo Yehova anati kwa Satana, “Kodi iwe ukuchokera kuti?”
Satana anayankha Yehova kuti, “Ndakhala ndikungoyendayenda ndi kumangozungulira mʼdzikoli.”
3 Pamenepo Yehova anati kwa Satana, “Kodi unalingalirapo za mtumiki wanga Yobu? Palibe wina pa dziko lapansi wofanana naye; ndi munthu wosalakwa ndi wolungama mtima, munthu amene amaopa Mulungu ndi kupewa zoyipa. Ndipo iye akanalibe wangwiro, ngakhale iwe unandiwumiriza kuti ndikulole kuti umuvutitse popanda chifukwa.”
4 Satana anayankha kuti, “Iye ayesedwe mʼthupi mwake. Munthu angathe kupereka zonse ali nazo malingana iyeyo ali ndi moyo. 5 Koma tatambasulani dzanja lanu ndi kuwononga thupi lake, ndipo iyeyo adzakutukwanani ndithu pamaso panu.”
6 Yehova anati kwa Satana, “Chabwino, iye ali mʼmanja mwako; koma moyo wake usawuchotse.”
7 Choncho Satana anachoka pamaso pa Yehova napita kukazunza Yobu ndi zilonda zaululu pa thupi lake lonse. 8 Pamenepo Yobu anatenga phale ndi kumadzikanda nalo atakhala pa dzala la phulusa.
9 Mkazi wake anati kwa iye, “Kodi ukuwumirirabe kukhala wangwiro? Tukwana Mulungu kuti ufe!”
10 Yobu anayankha kuti, “Ukuyankhula ngati mkazi wopusa. Kodi tidzalandira zokoma zokhazokha kwa Mulungu, osalandiranso zowawa?”
Mu zonsezi, Yobu sanachimwe pa zimene anayankhula.
Abwenzi Atatu a Yobu
11 Abwenzi atatu a Yobu, Elifazi wa ku Temani, Bilidadi wa ku Suki ndi Zofari wa ku Naama, atamva za tsoka lonse limene linamugwera iye, ananyamuka ku nyumba zawo nakumana malo amodzi mopangana kuti apite ndi kukamupepesa Yobu ndi kumutonthoza. 12 Atamuona Yobuyo, iwo ali chapatalipo, sanathe kumuzindikira. Choncho anayamba kulira mokweza mawu ndipo anangʼamba mikanjo yawo ndi kuwaza fumbi pa mitu yawo. 13 Tsono anakhala naye pamodzi pansi kwa masiku asanu ndi awiri, usana ndi usiku omwe. Palibe ndi mmodzi yemwe anayankhula naye, chifukwa anazindikira kuti Yobu amavutika kwambiri.

2 On another day the angels[a](A) came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them(B) to present himself before him. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”(C)
3 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.(D) And he still maintains his integrity,(E) though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”(F)
4 “Skin for skin!” Satan replied. “A man will give all he has(G) for his own life. 5 But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones,(H) and he will surely curse you to your face.”(I)
6 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands;(J) but you must spare his life.”(K)
7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.(L) 8 Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes.(M)
9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity?(N) Curse God and die!”(O)
10 He replied, “You are talking like a foolish[b] woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”(P)
In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.(Q)
11 When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite,(R) Bildad the Shuhite(S) and Zophar the Naamathite,(T) heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.(U) 12 When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him;(V) they began to weep aloud,(W) and they tore their robes(X) and sprinkled dust on their heads.(Y) 13 Then they sat on the ground(Z) with him for seven days and seven nights.(AA) No one said a word to him,(AB) because they saw how great his suffering was.
