17 Nói như vậy xong, Ðức Chúa Jesus ngước mắt lên trời và cầu nguyện rằng, “Lạy Cha, giờ đã đến. Xin Cha làm vinh hiển Con của Cha, để Con của Cha làm vinh hiển Cha. 2 Vì Cha đã ban cho Con[a] uy quyền trên mọi loài xác thịt, nên Con sẽ ban sự sống đời đời cho những ai Cha ban cho Con. 3 Ðây là sự sống đời đời: đó là họ nhận biết Cha, Ðức Chúa Trời thực hữu duy nhất, và Ðức Chúa Jesus Christ, Ðấng Cha đã sai đến.
4 Con đã làm vinh hiển Cha trên đất, hoàn tất công việc Cha giao cho Con làm. 5 Cha ôi, xin Cha làm vinh hiển Con trước mặt Cha bằng vinh hiển Con vốn có nơi Cha trước khi có thế gian.
6 Con đã bày tỏ danh Cha cho những người Cha ban cho Con trong thế gian. Họ vốn thuộc về Cha. Cha đã ban họ cho Con, và họ đã vâng giữ lời Cha. 7 Bây giờ họ biết rằng những gì Cha ban cho Con đều đến từ Cha. 8 Những lời Cha ban cho Con, Con ban cho họ, và họ đã nhận lấy. Họ biết quả quyết rằng Con từ Cha đến, và họ đã tin rằng Cha đã sai Con. 9 Con cầu xin cho họ. Con không cầu xin cho thế gian nhưng cho những người Cha ban cho Con, vì họ là của Cha. 10 Tất cả những gì của Con là của Cha, những gì của Cha là của Con, và Con được tôn vinh qua họ.
11 Con không ở thế gian nữa. Con sẽ đi về cùng Cha, nhưng họ còn ở thế gian. Lạy Cha thánh, xin Cha bảo vệ họ, những người Cha ban cho Con trong danh Cha, để họ hiệp một như Chúng Ta là một. 12 Khi Con còn ở với họ, Con bảo vệ họ trong danh Cha, tức danh Cha ban cho Con; không ai trong họ bị mất ngoại trừ đứa con của sự hư mất, để lời Kinh Thánh được ứng nghiệm.
13 Bây giờ Con đi về cùng Cha, và Con nói những điều này trong khi còn ở thế gian để họ được hưởng trọn vẹn niềm vui của Con. 14 Con đã ban cho họ lời Cha. Thế gian ghét họ, vì họ không thuộc về thế gian, cũng như Con không thuộc về thế gian. 15 Con không cầu xin Cha cất họ khỏi thế gian, nhưng xin Cha bảo vệ họ khỏi kẻ ác.
20 Con không chỉ cầu xin cho họ, nhưng cũng cho những ai nghe lời họ mà tin Con, 21 để tất cả họ có thể hiệp một, như Cha ở trong Con và Con ở trong Cha, thưa Cha, và để họ có thể ở trong Chúng Ta, hầu thế gian tin rằng Cha đã sai Con.
22 Con đã ban cho họ vinh hiển Cha ban cho Con, để họ có thể hiệp làm một như Chúng Ta là một. 23 Con ở trong họ và Cha ở trong Con để họ có thể hoàn toàn hiệp làm một, hầu thế gian biết rằng Cha đã sai Con, và Cha đã yêu thương họ như Cha đã yêu thương Con. 24 Cha ôi, Con muốn Con ở đâu thì những người Cha ban cho Con cũng ở đó với Con, để họ có thể chiêm ngưỡng vinh hiển Cha ban cho Con, vì Cha đã yêu thương Con trước khi sáng thế.
25 Lạy Cha công chính, dù thế gian không biết Cha nhưng Con biết Cha, và những người này biết Cha đã sai Con. 26 Con đã tỏ cho họ biết danh Cha, và Con sẽ cho họ biết nữa, hầu tình yêu Cha dành để yêu thương Con có thể ở trong họ, và Con ở trong họ.”

17 After Yeshua had said these things, he looked up toward heaven and said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that the Son may glorify you — 2 just as you gave him authority over all mankind, so that he might give eternal life to all those whom you have given him. 3 And eternal life is this: to know you, the one true God, and him whom you sent, Yeshua the Messiah.
4 “I glorified you on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 Now, Father, glorify me alongside yourself. Give me the same glory I had with you before the world existed.
6 “I made your name known to the people you gave me out of the world. They were yours, you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me is from you, 8 because the words you gave me I have given to them, and they have received them. They have really come to know that I came from you, and they have come to trust that you sent me.
9 “I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given to me, because they are yours. 10 Indeed, all I have is yours, and all you have is mine, and in them I have been glorified. 11 Now I am no longer in the world. They are in the world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, guard them by the power of your name, which you have given to me, so that they may be one, just as we are. 12 When I was with them, I guarded them by the power of your name, which you have given to me; yes, I kept watch over them; and not one of them was destroyed (except the one meant for destruction, so that the Tanakh might be fulfilled). 13 But now, I am coming to you; and I say these things while I am still in the world so that they may have my joy made complete in themselves.
14 “I have given them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world — just as I myself do not belong to the world. 15 I don’t ask you to take them out of the world, but to protect them from the Evil One. 16 They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 17 Set them apart for holiness by means of the truth — your word is truth. 18 Just as you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 On their behalf I am setting myself apart for holiness, so that they too may be set apart for holiness by means of the truth.
20 “I pray not only for these, but also for those who will trust in me because of their word, 21 that they may all be one. Just as you, Father, are united with me and I with you, I pray that they may be united with us, so that the world may believe that you sent me. 22 The glory which you have given to me, I have given to them; so that they may be one, just as we are one — 23 I united with them and you with me, so that they may be completely one, and the world thus realize that you sent me, and that you have loved them just as you have loved me.
24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am; so that they may see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25 Righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you, and these people have known that you sent me. 26 I made your name known to them, and I will continue to make it known; so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I myself may be united with them.”

Jesus Prays to Be Glorified
17 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven(A) and prayed:
“Father, the hour has come.(B) Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.(C) 2 For you granted him authority over all people(D) that he might give eternal life(E) to all those you have given him.(F) 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you,(G) the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.(H) 4 I have brought you glory(I) on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.(J) 5 And now, Father, glorify me(K) in your presence with the glory I had with you(L) before the world began.(M)

6 “I have revealed you[a](N) to those whom you gave me(O) out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me(P) and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you,(Q) and they believed that you sent me.(R) 9 I pray for them.(S) I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me,(T) for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine.(U) And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world,(V) and I am coming to you.(W) Holy Father, protect them by the power of[b] your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one(X) as we are one.(Y) 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by[c] that name you gave me. None has been lost(Z) except the one doomed to destruction(AA) so that Scripture would be fulfilled.(AB)
13 “I am coming to you now,(AC) but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy(AD) within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them,(AE) for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.(AF) 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.(AG) 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.(AH) 17 Sanctify them by[d] the truth; your word is truth.(AI) 18 As you sent me into the world,(AJ) I have sent them into the world.(AK) 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.(AL)
Jesus Prays for All Believers
20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one,(AM) Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.(AN) May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.(AO) 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me,(AP) that they may be one as we are one(AQ)— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me(AR) and have loved them(AS) even as you have loved me.
24 “Father, I want those you have given me(AT) to be with me where I am,(AU) and to see my glory,(AV) the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.(AW)
25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you,(AX) I know you, and they know that you have sent me.(AY) 26 I have made you[e] known to them,(AZ) and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them(BA) and that I myself may be in them.”
