Ê-li-pha Cho Rằng Gióp Ðã Phạm Tội
4 Bấy giờ Ê-li-pha người Tê-man lên tiếng:
2 Nếu ai nói với anh cảm nghĩ của mình, anh có giận không?
Nhưng ai có thể cứ im lặng mãi mà không lên tiếng?
3 Này, anh đã dạy bảo nhiều người;
Anh đã giúp cho những cánh tay yếu đuối trở nên mạnh mẽ.
4 Lời khuyên bảo của anh đã nâng đỡ những người bị vấp ngã;
Anh đã làm cho những đầu gối lỏng lẻo được vững vàng.
5 Nhưng bây giờ thảm cảnh đến với anh, anh đâm ra thất chí;
Nó đụng đến anh, anh kinh hãi bàng hoàng.
6 Chẳng lẽ lòng kính sợ Chúa của anh không cho anh ít tự tin,
Ðức liêm chính của anh không cho anh chút hy vọng gì sao?
7 Xin anh nhớ lại xem, có bao giờ người vô tội mà bị diệt mất chăng?
Có nơi nào người ngay thẳng lại bị tiêu vong chăng?
8 Nhưng điều tôi thấy là: ai cày để trồng tội ác,
Và ai gieo rắc rối phiền muộn, ắt sẽ gặt những thứ ấy.
9 Chỉ một cái hắt hơi của Ðức Chúa Trời, chúng liền chết mất,
Chỉ một cái nhảy mũi của Ngài, chúng bị thiêu hủy tức thì.
10 Ðâu còn tiếng gầm của sư tử, tiếng rống của sư tử hung tàn,
Các răng nhọn của sư tử tơ đã bị bẻ gãy cả rồi.
11 Con sư tử chúa đàn cũng phải chết vì không mồi,
Ðàn con nhỏ của sư tử cái ắt phải bị tan lạc.
12 Bây giờ có một lời đã lặng lẽ đến với tôi,
Tai tôi đã nghe tiếng của nó thì thầm.
13 Giữa các tư tưởng xuất hiện qua các khải tượng trong đêm,
Khi giấc ngủ say chụp xuống trên những người phàm.
14 Một cơn sợ hãi đã đến với tôi, tôi run lên cầm cập;
Tất cả các xương tôi đều lẩy bẩy rụng rời.
15 Một thần linh bay lướt qua mặt tôi,
Mình tôi nổi gai ốc, và lông tóc tôi dựng đứng.
16 Vị thần ấy đứng yên ở đó,
Nhưng tôi không thể nhận ra hình dáng của vị thần.
Có một hình dạng ở trước mắt tôi;
Hình dạng ấy cứ đứng yên ở đó, rồi tôi nghe tiếng nói:
17 “Người phàm có thể công chính hơn Ðức Chúa Trời chăng?
Loài người há trong sạch hơn Ðấng Tạo Hóa của mình sao?
18 Ngay cả các tôi tớ của Ngài mà Ngài còn chưa tin cậy;
Các thiên sứ của Ngài mà Ngài còn bắt lỗi,
19 Huống chi những kẻ sống trong căn nhà bằng đất sét, với nền móng bằng bụi đất,
Nó có thể bị nghiền nát như người ta bóp nát một con bướm đêm.
20 Sáng chúng còn đó, chiều chưa tàn chúng đã bị diệt mất rồi;
Chúng đã chết mất vĩnh viễn, và không ai quan tâm đến chúng nữa.
21 Dây căng lều của chúng đã bị nhổ theo chúng cả rồi sao?
Chúng chết mà không biết khôn ngoan nhận thức.”

Eliphaz: Job Has Sinned
4 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:
2 “If one attempts a word with you, will you become weary?
But who can withhold himself from speaking?
3 Surely you have instructed many,
And you (A)have strengthened weak hands.
4 Your words have upheld him who was stumbling,
And you (B)have strengthened the [a]feeble knees;
5 But now it comes upon you, and you are weary;
It touches you, and you are troubled.
6 Is not (C)your reverence (D)your confidence?
And the integrity of your ways your hope?
7 “Remember now, (E)who ever perished being innocent?
Or where were the upright ever cut off?
8 Even as I have seen,
(F)Those who plow iniquity
And sow trouble reap the same.
9 By the blast of God they perish,
And by the breath of His anger they are consumed.
10 The roaring of the lion,
The voice of the fierce lion,
And (G)the teeth of the young lions are broken.
11 (H)The old lion perishes for lack of prey,
And the cubs of the lioness are scattered.
12 “Now a word was secretly brought to me,
And my ear received a whisper of it.
13 (I)In disquieting thoughts from the visions of the night,
When deep sleep falls on men,
14 Fear came upon me, and (J)trembling,
Which made all my bones shake.
15 Then a spirit passed before my face;
The hair on my body stood up.
16 It stood still,
But I could not discern its appearance.
A form was before my eyes;
There was silence;
Then I heard a voice saying:
17 ‘Can a mortal be more righteous than God?
Can a man be more pure than his Maker?
18 If He (K)puts no trust in His servants,
If He charges His angels with error,
19 How much more those who dwell in houses of clay,
Whose foundation is in the dust,
Who are crushed before a moth?
20 (L)They are broken in pieces from morning till evening;
They perish forever, with no one regarding.
21 Does not their own excellence go away?
They die, even without wisdom.’

Eliphaz tries to comfort Job
4 Then Eliphaz, a native of Teman, responded:
2 If one tries to answer you, will you be annoyed?
But who can hold words back?
3 Look, you’ve instructed many
and given strength to drooping hands.
4 Your words have raised up the falling;
you’ve steadied failing knees.
5 But now it comes to you, and you are dismayed;
it has struck you, and you are frightened.
6 Isn’t your religion the source of[a] your confidence;
the integrity of your conduct, the source of your hope?
Sinners don’t live long
7 Think! What innocent person has ever perished?
When have those who do the right thing been destroyed?
8 As I’ve observed, those who plow sin
and sow trouble will harvest it.
9 When God breathes deeply, they perish;
by a breath of his nostril they are annihilated.
10 The roar of a lion and snarl of the king of beasts—
yet the teeth of lions are shattered;
11 the lion perishes without prey,
and its cubs are scattered.
A frightening dream
12 But a word sneaked up on me;
my ears caught a hint of it.
13 In profound thoughts, visions of night,
when deep sleep falls on people,
14 fear and dread struck me;
all of my bones shook.
15 A breeze swept by my face;
the hair of my skin bristled.
16 It stopped. I didn’t recognize its visible form,
although a figure was in front of my eyes.
Silence! Then I heard a voice:
17 “Can a human be more righteous than God,
a person purer than their maker?”
Its interpretation
18 If he doesn’t trust his servants
and levels a charge against his messengers,
19 how much less those who dwell in houses of clay,
whose foundations are in dust,
and who are crushed like a moth?
20 They are smashed between morning and evening;
they perish forever without anyone knowing.
21 Isn’t their tent cord pulled up?
They die without wisdom.[b]

4 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?
3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?
7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.
10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.
12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.
13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:
16 It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?
18 Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:
19 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?
20 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.
21 Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.
