Gosen. Iacov înaintea lui Faraon
47 Iosif s-a dus(A) să înştiinţeze pe Faraon şi i-a spus: „Fraţii mei şi tatăl meu au sosit din ţara Canaan, cu oile şi boii şi cu tot avutul lor şi sunt în ţinutul Gosen(B).” 2 A luat pe cinci din fraţii lui şi i-a adus înaintea(C) lui Faraon. 3 Faraon a întrebat pe fraţii lui Iosif: „Cu ce(D) vă îndeletniciţi?” Ei au răspuns lui Faraon: „Robii(E) tăi sunt păstori, cum erau şi părinţii noştri.” 4 Şi au mai zis lui Faraon: „Noi am venit ca să locuim(F) o vreme aici în ţară, pentru că nu mai este păşune pentru oile robilor tăi şi este o mare foamete(G) în ţara Canaanului; îngăduie dar robilor tăi să locuiască în ţinutul(H) Gosen.” 5 Faraon a zis lui Iosif: „Tatăl tău şi fraţii tăi au venit la tine. 6 Ţara Egiptului(I) este deschisă înaintea ta; aşază pe tatăl tău şi pe fraţii tăi în cea mai bună parte a ţării. Să locuiască în ţinutul(J) Gosen şi, dacă găseşti printre ei oameni destoinici, pune-i în fruntea turmelor mele.” 7 Iosif a adus pe tatăl său Iacov şi l-a înfăţişat înaintea lui Faraon. Şi Iacov a binecuvântat pe Faraon. 8 Faraon a întrebat pe Iacov: „Care este numărul zilelor anilor vieţii tale?” 9 Iacov a răspuns lui Faraon: „Zilele(K) anilor călătoriei mele sunt o sută treizeci de ani. Zilele anilor vieţii mele au fost puţine(L) la număr şi rele şi n-au(M) atins zilele anilor vieţii părinţilor mei în timpul călătoriei lor.” 10 Iacov a binecuvântat(N) iarăşi pe Faraon şi a plecat dinaintea lui Faraon. 11 Iosif a aşezat pe tatăl său şi pe fraţii săi şi le-a dat o moşie în ţara Egiptului, în cea mai bună parte a ţării, în ţinutul lui Ramses(O), cum(P) poruncise Faraon. 12 Iosif a hrănit cu pâine pe tatăl său, pe fraţii săi şi pe toată familia tatălui său, după numărul copiilor.
Scumpetea în Egipt
13 Nu mai era pâine în toată ţara, căci foametea era foarte mare; ţara Egiptului(Q) şi ţara Canaanului tânjeau din pricina foametei. 14 Iosif(R) a strâns tot argintul care se găsea în ţara Egiptului şi în ţara Canaanului în schimbul grâului pe care-l cumpărau oamenii şi astfel a făcut ca tot argintul acesta să intre în casa lui Faraon. 15 Când s-a sfârşit argintul din ţara Egiptului şi din ţara Canaanului, toţi egiptenii au venit la Iosif şi au zis: „Dă-ne pâine! Pentru ce(S) să murim în faţa ta? Căci argint nu mai avem.” 16 Iosif a zis: „Daţi vitele voastre, şi vă voi da pâine în schimbul vitelor voastre, dacă nu mai aveţi argint.” 17 Şi-au adus vitele la Iosif, şi Iosif le-a dat pâine în schimbul cailor, în schimbul turmelor de oi şi de boi şi în schimbul măgarilor. Le-a dat astfel pâine în anul acela în schimbul tuturor turmelor lor. 18 După ce a trecut anul acela, au venit la Iosif în anul următor şi i-au zis: „Nu putem să ascundem domnului nostru faptul că argintul s-a sfârşit şi turmele de vite au trecut în stăpânirea domnului nostru; nu mai rămân înaintea domnului nostru decât trupurile şi pământurile noastre. 19 Pentru ce să murim sub ochii tăi, noi şi pământurile noastre? Cumpără-ne împreună cu pământurile noastre în schimbul pâinii, şi vom fi ai domnului nostru, noi şi pământurile noastre. Dă-ne sămânţă să semănăm, ca să trăim şi să nu murim, şi să nu ne rămână pământurile pustii.” 20 Iosif a cumpărat pentru Faraon toate pământurile Egiptului; căci egiptenii şi-au vândut fiecare ogorul, pentru că îi silea foametea. Şi ţara a ajuns în stăpânirea lui Faraon. 21 Cât despre popor, l-a mutat în cetăţi, de la o margine a hotarelor Egiptului până la cealaltă. 22 Numai(T) pământurile preoţilor nu le-a cumpărat, pentru că era o lege a lui Faraon, dată în folosul preoţilor, care trăiau din venitul pe care li-l dădea Faraon: de aceea ei nu şi-au vândut pământurile. 23 Iosif a zis poporului: „V-am cumpărat azi cu pământurile voastre pentru Faraon; iată, vă dau sămânţă, ca să puteţi semăna pământul. 24 La vremea roadelor, veţi da a cincea parte lui Faraon, iar celelalte patru părţi vă vor rămâne vouă, ca să semănaţi ogoarele şi să vă hrăniţi împreună cu copiii voştri şi cu cei ce sunt în casele voastre.” 25 Ei au zis: „Tu ne-ai scăpat viaţa! Să căpătăm(U) trecere înaintea domnului nostru şi vom fi robi ai lui Faraon.” 26 Iosif a făcut din aceasta o lege, care a rămas în picioare până în ziua de azi şi după care a cincea parte din venitul pământurilor Egiptului este a lui Faraon; numai(V) pământurile preoţilor nu sunt ale lui Faraon.
Sfârşitul lui Iacov se apropie
27 Israel a locuit(W) în ţara Egiptului, în ţinutul Gosen. Ei s-au înstărit, au crescut(X) şi s-au înmulţit foarte mult. 28 Iacov a trăit şaptesprezece ani în ţara Egiptului şi zilele anilor vieţii lui Iacov au fost de o sută patruzeci şi şapte de ani. 29 Când s-a apropiat(Y) Israel de clipa morţii, a chemat pe fiul său Iosif şi i-a zis: „Dacă am căpătat trecere înaintea ta, pune(Z), rogu-te, mâna sub coapsa mea şi poartă-te(AA) cu bunătate şi credincioşie faţă de mine: să nu mă îngropi(AB) în Egipt. 30 Ci, când mă voi(AC) culca lângă părinţii mei, să mă scoţi afară din Egipt şi să mă îngropi(AD) în mormântul lor.” Iosif a răspuns: „Voi face după cuvântul tău.” 31 Iacov a zis: „Jură-mi.” Şi Iosif i-a jurat. Apoi Israel(AE) s-a plecat cu faţa pe căpătâiul patului.

Joseph Is Governor of Egypt
47 Then Joseph (A)went and told Pharaoh, and said, “My father and my brothers, their flocks and their herds and all that they possess, have come from the land of Canaan; and indeed they are in (B)the land of Goshen.” 2 And he took five men from among his brothers and (C)presented them to Pharaoh. 3 Then Pharaoh said to his brothers, (D)“What is your occupation?”
And they said to Pharaoh, (E)“Your servants are shepherds, both we and also our fathers.” 4 And they said to Pharaoh, (F)“We have come to dwell in the land, because your servants have no pasture for their flocks, (G)for the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, please let your servants (H)dwell in the land of Goshen.”
5 Then Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, “Your father and your brothers have come to you. 6 (I)The land of Egypt is before you. Have your father and brothers dwell in the best of the land; let them dwell (J)in the land of Goshen. And if you know any competent men among them, then make them chief herdsmen over my livestock.”
7 Then Joseph brought in his father Jacob and set him before Pharaoh; and Jacob (K)blessed Pharaoh. 8 Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How old are you?”
9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, (L)“The days of the years of my [a]pilgrimage are (M)one hundred and thirty years; (N)few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and (O)they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.” 10 So Jacob (P)blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.
11 And Joseph situated his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of (Q)Rameses, (R)as Pharaoh had commanded. 12 Then Joseph provided (S)his father, his brothers, and all his father’s household with bread, according to the number in their families.
Joseph Deals with the Famine
13 Now there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, (T)so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine. 14 (U)And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought; and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.
15 So when the money failed in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us bread, for (V)why should we die in your presence? For the money has failed.”
16 Then Joseph said, “Give your livestock, and I will give you bread for your livestock, if the money is gone.” 17 So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, the flocks, the cattle of the herds, and for the donkeys. Thus he [b]fed them with bread in exchange for all their livestock that year.
18 When that year had ended, they came to him the next year and said to him, “We will not hide from my lord that our money is gone; my lord also has our herds of livestock. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our lands. 19 Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants of Pharaoh; give us seed, that we may (W)live and not die, that the land may not be desolate.”
20 Then Joseph (X)bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. So the land became Pharaoh’s. 21 And as for the people, he [c]moved them into the cities, from one end of the borders of Egypt to the other end. 22 (Y)Only the land of the (Z)priests he did not buy; for the priests had rations allotted to them by Pharaoh, and they ate their rations which Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their lands.
23 Then Joseph said to the people, “Indeed I have bought you and your land this day for Pharaoh. Look, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land. 24 And it shall come to pass in the harvest that you shall give one-fifth to Pharaoh. Four-fifths shall be your own, as seed for the field and for your food, for those of your households and as food for your little ones.”
25 So they said, “You have saved (AA)our lives; let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.” 26 And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have one-fifth, (AB)except for the land of the priests only, which did not become Pharaoh’s.
Joseph’s Vow to Jacob
27 So Israel (AC)dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions there and (AD)grew and multiplied exceedingly. 28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the length of Jacob’s life was one hundred and forty-seven years. 29 When the time (AE)drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “Now if I have found favor in your sight, please (AF)put your hand under my thigh, and (AG)deal kindly and truly with me. (AH)Please do not bury me in Egypt, 30 but (AI)let me lie with my fathers; you shall carry me out of Egypt and (AJ)bury me in their burial place.”
And he said, “I will do as you have said.”
31 Then he said, “Swear to me.” And he swore to him. So (AK)Israel bowed himself on the head of the bed.

Jakob inför farao
47 Och Josef kom och berättade för farao: "Min far och mina bröder har kommit från Kanaans land med sina får och sin nötboskap och allt de äger. De är nu i landet Gosen." 2 Han hade valt ut fem av sina bröder och förde fram dem inför farao. 3 Då frågade farao hans bröder: "Vad har ni för yrke?" De svarade farao: "Dina tjänare är herdar, vi liksom våra fäder." 4 De sade också till farao: "Vi har kommit för att bo här i landet någon tid, för dina tjänare har inget bete för sina får eftersom hungersnöden är svår i Kanaans land. Låt nu dina tjänare bo i landet Gosen." 5 Då sade farao till Josef: "Din far och dina bröder har alltså kommit till dig. 6 Egyptens land ligger öppet för dig. I den bästa delen av landet skall du låta din far och dina bröder bo. Låt dem bo i landet Gosen, och om du vet att några bland dem är dugliga män, så sätt dem till uppsyningsmän över min boskap."
7 Sedan hämtade Josef sin fader Jakob och förde honom fram inför farao, och Jakob hälsade farao. 8 Och farao frågade Jakob: "Vad är din ålder?" 9 Jakob svarade farao: "Min vandringstid har varat i etthundratrettio år. Få och svåra har mina levnadsår varit. De når inte upp till mina förfäders levnadsår under deras vandringstid." 10 Och Jakob välsignade farao och gick ut ifrån honom. 11 Josef lät sin far och sina bröder bo i Egyptens land och gav dem egendom i den bästa delen av landet, i Raamses område, så som farao hade befallt. 12 Josef försörjde sin far och sina bröder och hela sin fars hus och gav var och en underhåll efter antalet barn.
Hungersnödens följder för egyptierna
13 Men ingenstans i landet fanns bröd eftersom hungersnöden var mycket svår, och både Egypten och Kanaans land försmäktade av hunger. 14 För den säd som folket köpte samlade Josef alla pengar som fanns i Egypten och Kanaan och förde dem in i faraos palats. 15 Men när pengarna tog slut i Egypten och Kanaan, kom alla egyptier till Josef och sade: "Ge oss bröd! Varför skall vi dö inför dina ögon? Vi har ju inga pengar kvar." 16 Josef svarade: "För hit er boskap, så skall jag ge er bröd för boskapen, om era pengar är slut." 17 Då kom de med sin boskap till Josef, och han gav dem bröd i utbyte mot deras hästar, får, nötboskap och åsnor. På detta sätt underhöll han dem det året och gav dem bröd i utbyte mot all deras boskap.
18 Så tog det året slut. Men året därpå kom de tillbaka till honom och sade: "Vi kan inte dölja det för min herre. Pengarna är slut och boskapen vi ägde tillhör min herre. Ingenting annat finns nu kvar att ge än våra kroppar och vår jord. 19 Varför skall vi dö inför dina ögon, vi och vår åkerjord? Köp oss och vår jord för bröd, så skall vi med vår jord bli faraos slavar. Ge oss bara utsäde, så att vi får leva och inte dör och så att åkerjorden inte läggs öde." 20 Då köpte Josef all jord i Egypten åt farao. Egyptierna sålde var och en sin åker eftersom hungersnöden var så svår. Och åkerjorden blev så faraos egendom. 21 Folket flyttade han till städerna, från ena änden av Egypten till den andra. 22 Men prästernas jord köpte han inte, ty prästerna hade sitt bestämda underhåll av farao, och de levde av det som farao gav dem. Därför behövde de inte sälja sin jord. 23 Och Josef sade till folket: "Se, jag har nu köpt er och er jord åt farao. Här har ni utsäde. Beså nu jorden. 24 När grödan kommer in skall ni ge en femtedel åt farao. Men fyra femtedelar skall ni själva ha till utsäde och till mat åt er och ert husfolk och era små barn." 25 De svarade: "Du har räddat våra liv. Herre, låt oss finna nåd för dina ögon, så skall vi bli faraos slavar." 26 Josef gjorde det till en lag som gäller än i dag för Egyptens jord, att femtedelen av skörden skall ges åt farao. Det var bara prästernas jord som inte blev faraos egendom.
Jakobs sista önskan
27 Så bodde Israel i landet Gosen i Egypten. De skaffade sig ägodelar och var fruktsamma och förökade sig mycket. 28 Jakob levde sjutton år i Egypten och han blev etthundrafyrtiosju år gammal. 29 När tiden närmade sig att Israel skulle dö, kallade han till sig sin son Josef och sade till honom: "Om jag har funnit nåd för dina ögon, så lägg din hand under min höft och lova att visa mig kärlek och trofasthet så att du inte begraver mig i Egypten. 30 När jag har gått till vila hos mina fäder skall du i stället föra mig från Egypten och begrava mig i deras grav." Han svarade: "Jag skall göra som du säger." 31 Men Jakob sade: "Ge mig din ed på det!" Och han gav honom sin ed, och Israel tillbad böjd mot bäddens huvudgärd.

47 Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.
2 And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.
3 And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.
4 They said morever unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.
5 And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:
6 The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.
7 And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
8 And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou?
9 And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.
10 And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.
11 And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

18 When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands:
19 Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate.
20 And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh's.
21 And as for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt even to the other end thereof.
22 Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.
23 Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.
24 And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.
25 And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants.
26 And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part, except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh's.
27 And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.
28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.
29 And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt:
30 But I will lie with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their buryingplace. And he said, I will do as thou hast said.
31 And he said, Swear unto me. And he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head.
