² the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.

²⁴ And half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod, and they could not speak the language of Judah, but only the language of each people. ^25 (A)And I confronted them and cursed them and beat some of them and pulled out their hair. ^(B)And I made them take an oath in the name of God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves. ^26 (C)Did not Solomon king of Israel sin on account of such women? ^(D)Among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was ^(E)beloved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless, foreign women made even him to sin. ²⁷ Shall we then listen to you and do all this great evil and ^(F)act treacherously against our God by marrying foreign women?”

^3 (A)You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, ⁴ for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. ^(B)Then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you ^(C)quickly.

⁶ So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise,^[a] she took of its fruit ^(A)and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, ^(B)and he ate.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world—^(A)the desires of the flesh and ^(B)the desires of the eyes and pride of life^[a]—is not from the Father but is from the world.

⁷ and not all are children of Abraham ^(A)because they are his offspring, but ^(B)“Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” ⁸ This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but ^(C)the children of the promise are counted as offspring.

⁴¹ You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him, ^(A)“We were not born of sexual immorality. We have ^(B)one Father—even God.” ⁴² Jesus said to them, ^(C)“If God were your Father, you would love me, for ^(D)I came from God and ^(E)I am here. ^(F)I came not of my own accord, but ^(G)he sent me.

¹² For if you turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations remaining among you ^(A)and make marriages with them, so that you associate with them and they with you, ¹³ know for certain that ^(B)the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations before you, ^(C)but they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good ground that the Lord your God has given you.
