Increasing Corruption on Earth

6 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, ² the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. ³ Then the Lord said, ^(A)“My Spirit shall not abide in^[a] man forever, ^(B)for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” ⁴ The Nephilim^[b] were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.

³ that I may make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and God of the earth, that ^(A)you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell,

^37 (A)My master made me swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell,

Jacob Sent to Laban

28 Then Isaac called Jacob ^(A)and blessed him and directed him, ^(B)“You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women.

Esau Marries an Ishmaelite

⁶ Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women,” ⁷ and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram. ⁸ So when Esau saw ^(A)that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father, ⁹ Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife, besides the wives he had, ^(B)Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham's son, the sister of ^(C)Nebaioth.

^12 (A)Take care, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you go, lest it become a ^(B)snare in your midst. ¹³ You shall ^(C)tear down their altars and ^(D)break their pillars and cut down their ^(E)Asherim ¹⁴ (for ^(F)you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God), ^15 (G)lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and when they ^(H)whore after their gods and sacrifice to their gods and ^(I)you are invited, you eat of his sacrifice, ¹⁶ and you take of ^(J)their daughters for your sons, and their daughters ^(K)whore after their gods and make your sons whore after their gods.

³ But if they are married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the people of Israel, then their inheritance will be taken from the inheritance of our fathers and added to the inheritance of the tribe into which they marry. So it will be taken away from the lot of our inheritance.

⁸ And ^(A)every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the people of Israel shall be wife to one of the clan of the tribe of her father, so that every one of the people of Israel may possess the inheritance of his fathers.

^3 (A)You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, ⁴ for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. ^(B)Then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you ^(C)quickly.
