Wickedness in the World

6 When human beings began to increase in number on the earth^(A) and daughters were born to them, ² the sons of God^(B) saw that the daughters^(C) of humans were beautiful,^(D) and they married^(E) any of them they chose. ³ Then the Lord said, “My Spirit^(F) will not contend with^[a] humans forever,^(G) for they are mortal^[b];^(H) their days will be a hundred and twenty years.”

³⁵ But love your enemies, do good to them,^(A) and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children^(B) of the Most High,^(C) because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

²² Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son,^{(A) 23} and I told you, “Let my son go,^(B) so he may worship^(C) me.” But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.’”^(D)

⁶ He said to me: ‘Solomon your son is the one who will build^(A) my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son,^(B) and I will be his father.
