50 Joseph threw himself on his father and wept over him and kissed him.(A) 2 Then Joseph directed the physicians in his service to embalm his father Israel. So the physicians embalmed him,(B) 3 taking a full forty days, for that was the time required for embalming. And the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.(C)
4 When the days of mourning(D) had passed, Joseph said to Pharaoh’s court,(E) “If I have found favor in your eyes,(F) speak to Pharaoh for me. Tell him, 5 ‘My father made me swear an oath(G) and said, “I am about to die;(H) bury me in the tomb I dug for myself(I) in the land of Canaan.”(J) Now let me go up and bury my father;(K) then I will return.’”
6 Pharaoh said, “Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear to do.”
7 So Joseph went up to bury his father. All Pharaoh’s officials(L) accompanied him—the dignitaries of his court(M) and all the dignitaries of Egypt— 8 besides all the members of Joseph’s household and his brothers and those belonging to his father’s household.(N) Only their children and their flocks and herds were left in Goshen.(O) 9 Chariots(P) and horsemen[a] also went up with him. It was a very large company.
10 When they reached the threshing floor(Q) of Atad, near the Jordan, they lamented loudly and bitterly;(R) and there Joseph observed a seven-day period(S) of mourning(T) for his father.(U) 11 When the Canaanites(V) who lived there saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “The Egyptians are holding a solemn ceremony of mourning.”(W) That is why that place near the Jordan is called Abel Mizraim.[b]
12 So Jacob’s sons did as he had commanded them:(X) 13 They carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave in the field of Machpelah,(Y) near Mamre,(Z) which Abraham had bought along with the field(AA) as a burial place from Ephron the Hittite.(AB) 14 After burying his father, Joseph returned to Egypt, together with his brothers and all the others who had gone with him to bury his father.(AC)
Joseph Reassures His Brothers
15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph holds a grudge(AD) against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?”(AE) 16 So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father left these instructions(AF) before he died: 17 ‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins(AG) and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’(AH) Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.(AI)” When their message came to him, Joseph wept.(AJ)
18 His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him.(AK) “We are your slaves,”(AL) they said.
19 But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God?(AM) 20 You intended to harm me,(AN) but God intended(AO) it for good(AP) to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.(AQ) 21 So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.(AR)” And he reassured them and spoke kindly(AS) to them.
The Death of Joseph
22 Joseph stayed in Egypt, along with all his father’s family. He lived a hundred and ten years(AT) 23 and saw the third generation(AU) of Ephraim’s(AV) children.(AW) Also the children of Makir(AX) son of Manasseh(AY) were placed at birth on Joseph’s knees.[c](AZ)
24 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die.(BA) But God will surely come to your aid(BB) and take you up out of this land to the land(BC) he promised on oath to Abraham,(BD) Isaac(BE) and Jacob.”(BF) 25 And Joseph made the Israelites swear an oath(BG) and said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones(BH) up from this place.”(BI)
26 So Joseph died(BJ) at the age of a hundred and ten.(BK) And after they embalmed him,(BL) he was placed in a coffin in Egypt.

Îngroparea lui Iacov
50 Iosif s-a aruncat(A) pe faţa tatălui său, l-a plâns(B) şi l-a sărutat. 2 A poruncit doctorilor care erau în slujba lui să îmbălsămeze(C) pe tatăl său, şi doctorii au îmbălsămat pe Israel. 3 Patruzeci de zile au trecut astfel şi au fost întrebuinţate cu îmbălsămarea lui. Şi egiptenii l-au plâns(D) şaptezeci de zile. 4 După ce au trecut zilele de jale, Iosif a vorbit oamenilor din casa(E) lui Faraon şi le-a zis: „Dacă am căpătat trecere înaintea voastră, spuneţi, vă rog, lui Faraon ce vă spun eu. 5 ‘Tatăl meu(F) m-a pus să jur, zicând: «Iată, în curând eu am să mor! Să mă îngropi în mormântul pe care(G) mi l-am săpat în ţara Canaan». Aş vrea dar să mă sui acolo, ca să îngrop pe tatăl meu, şi după aceea mă voi întoarce’.” 6 Faraon a răspuns: „Suie-te şi îngroapă pe tatăl tău, după jurământul pe care te-a pus să-l faci.” 7 Iosif s-a suit ca să îngroape pe tatăl său. Împreună cu el s-au suit toţi slujitorii lui Faraon, bătrânii casei lui, toţi bătrânii ţării Egiptului, 8 toată casa lui Iosif, fraţii săi şi casa tatălui său; n-au lăsat în ţinutul Gosen decât pruncii, oile şi boii. 9 Împreună cu Iosif mai erau care şi călăreţi, aşa că alaiul era foarte mare. 10 Când au ajuns la aria lui Atad, care este dincolo de Iordan, au făcut plângere(H) mare şi jalnică, şi Iosif a ţinut în cinstea tatălui său un bocet(I) de şapte zile. 11 Locuitorii ţării, canaaniţii, au fost martori la bocetul acesta din aria lui Atad şi au zis: „Iată un mare bocet printre egipteni!” De aceea s-a dat acestei arii numele Abel-Miţraim (Jalea Egiptenilor); ea este dincolo de Iordan. 12 Astfel au împlinit fiii(J) lui Iacov poruncile tatălui lor. 13 L-au dus în ţara Canaan şi l-au îngropat în peştera din ogorul Macpela, pe care-l(K) cumpărase Avraam de la Hetitul Efron ca moşie de înmormântare şi care este faţă în faţă cu Mamre. 14 Iosif, după ce a îngropat pe tatăl său, s-a întors în Egipt împreună cu fraţii săi şi cu toţi cei ce se suiseră cu el ca să îngroape pe tatăl său.
Bunătatea lui Iosif
15 Când au văzut fraţii lui Iosif că tatăl lor a murit, au(L) zis: „Dacă va prinde Iosif ură pe noi şi ne va întoarce tot răul pe care i l-am făcut?” 16 Şi au trimis să spună lui Iosif: „Tatăl tău a dat porunca aceasta înainte de moarte: 17 ‘Aşa să vorbiţi lui Iosif: «Oh, iartă nelegiuirea fraţilor tăi şi păcatul lor, căci ţi-au făcut(M) rău!»’ Iartă acum păcatul robilor Dumnezeului tatălui tău!” Iosif a plâns când a auzit cuvintele acestea. 18 Fraţii lui au venit şi s-au aruncat(N) ei înşişi cu faţa la pământ înaintea lui şi i-au zis: „Suntem robii tăi.” 19 Iosif le-a zis: „Fiţi fără(O) teamă, căci sunt(P) eu oare în locul lui Dumnezeu? 20 Voi(Q), negreşit, v-aţi gândit să-mi faceţi rău, dar Dumnezeu(R) a schimbat răul în bine, ca să împlinească ceea ce se vede azi, şi anume să scape viaţa unui popor în mare număr. 21 Fiţi dar fără teamă, căci eu vă voi hrăni(S) pe voi şi pe copiii voştri.” Şi i-a mângâiat şi le-a îmbărbătat inimile.
Moartea lui Iosif
22 Iosif a locuit în Egipt, el şi casa tatălui său, şi a trăit o sută zece ani. 23 Iosif a văzut pe fiii lui Efraim până la al treilea(T) neam şi fiii(U) lui Machir, fiul lui Manase, s-au născut(V) pe genunchii lui. 24 Iosif a zis fraţilor săi: „Eu am să mor! Dar Dumnezeu(W) vă va cerceta şi vă va face să vă suiţi din ţara aceasta în ţara pe care a jurat(X) că o va da lui Avraam, lui Isaac şi lui Iacov.” 25 Iosif(Y) a pus pe fiii lui Israel să jure, zicând: „Când vă va cerceta Dumnezeu, să luaţi şi oasele mele de aici.” 26 Iosif a murit în vârstă de o sută zece ani. L-au îmbălsămat(Z) şi l-au pus într-un sicriu în Egipt.

Burial of Jacob
50 Then Joseph (A)fell on his father’s face and (B)wept over him, and kissed him. 2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to (C)embalm his father. So the physicians embalmed Israel. 3 Forty days were required for him, for such are the days required for those who are embalmed; and the Egyptians (D)mourned[a] for him seventy days.
4 Now when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spoke to (E)the household of Pharaoh, saying, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, please speak in the hearing of Pharaoh, saying, 5 (F)‘My father made me swear, saying, “Behold, I am dying; in my grave (G)which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me.” Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father, and I will come back.’ ”
6 And Pharaoh said, “Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear.”
7 So Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, 8 as well as all the house of Joseph, his brothers, and his father’s house. Only their little ones, their flocks, and their herds they left in the land of Goshen. 9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen, and it was a very great gathering.
10 Then they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and they (H)mourned there with a great and very solemn lamentation. (I)He observed seven days of mourning for his father. 11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “This is a deep mourning of the Egyptians.” Therefore its name was called [b]Abel Mizraim, which is beyond the Jordan.
12 So his sons did for him just as he had commanded them. 13 For (J)his sons carried him to the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre, which Abraham (K)bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite as property for a burial place. 14 And after he had buried his father, Joseph returned to Egypt, he and his brothers and all who went up with him to bury his father.
Joseph Reassures His Brothers
15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, (L)they said, “Perhaps Joseph will hate us, and may [c]actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him.” 16 So they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, “Before your father died he commanded, saying, 17 ‘Thus you shall say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; (M)for they did evil to you.” ’ Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of (N)the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.
18 Then his brothers also went and (O)fell down before his face, and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.”
19 Joseph said to them, (P)“Do not be afraid, (Q)for am I in the place of God? 20 (R)But as for you, you meant evil against me; but (S)God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. 21 Now therefore, do not be afraid; (T)I will provide for you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke [d]kindly to them.
Death of Joseph(U)
22 So Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he and his father’s household. And Joseph lived one hundred and ten years. 23 Joseph saw Ephraim’s children (V)to the third generation. (W)The children of Machir, the son of Manasseh, (X)were also brought up on Joseph’s knees.
24 And Joseph said to his brethren, “I am dying; but (Y)God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land to the land (Z)of which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” 25 Then (AA)Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely [e]visit you, and (AB)you shall carry up my (AC)bones from here.” 26 So Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

50 Då böjde Josef sig ner över sin fars ansikte och grät över honom och kysste honom. 2 Josef befallde läkarna som han hade i sin tjänst att de skulle balsamera hans far. Och läkarna balsamerade Israel. 3 Det tog fyrtio dagar, ty så lång tid tar en balsamering. Och egyptierna begrät honom i sjuttio dagar.
4 När sorgedagarna efter honom var över sade Josef till faraos husfolk: "Om jag har funnit nåd för era ögon, ber jag er säga dessa ord till farao: 5 Min far har tagit ed av mig och sagt: När jag är död, så begrav mig i den grav som jag har grävt åt mig i Kanaans land. Låt mig därför resa och begrava min far och sedan komma tillbaka." 6 Farao svarade: "Res dit och begrav din far enligt den ed som han har tagit av dig." 7 Då reste Josef för att begrava sin far. Och alla faraos tjänare reste med honom, de äldste vid hans hov och alla de äldste i Egyptens land, 8 dessutom allt Josefs husfolk och hans bröder och hans fars husfolk. Bara sina små barn, sina får och sin nötboskap lämnade de kvar i landet Gosen. 9 Både vagnar och ryttare for tillsammans med honom, och det var en mycket stor skara.
10 När de kom till Goren-Haatad på andra sidan Jordan, höll de där en mycket stor och högtidlig dödsklagan, och han ordnade en sorgehögtid efter sin far i sju dagar. 11 När landets inbyggare, kananeerna, såg sorgehögtiden i Goren-Haatad sade de: "Det är en mycket stor sorgehögtid som egyptierna håller här." Därför kallades platsen Abel-Misrajim. Den ligger på andra sidan Jordan.
12 Jakobs söner gjorde med honom som han hade befallt dem. 13 De förde honom till Kanaans land och begravde honom i grottan vid fältet i Makpela, det markstycke som Abraham hade köpt till gravplats av hetiten Efron mitt emot Mamre.
14 När Josef hade begravt sin far vände han tillbaka till Egypten med sina bröder och alla dem som hade farit med honom för att begrava hans far.
Bröderna ber Josef om förlåtelse
15 När Josefs bröder såg att deras far var död, sade de: "Tänk om Josef börjar hata oss och låter allt det onda vi gjort mot honom komma över oss." 16 Därför sände de detta bud till Josef: "Din far sade till oss före sin död: 17 Så skall ni säga till Josef: Vi ber dig, förlåt dina bröder vad de har brutit och syndat genom att handla så illa mot dig. Så förlåt nu den synd som din fars Guds tjänare har begått." Och Josef grät när han fick deras hälsning. 18 Sedan kom också hans bröder och föll ner för honom och sade: "Vi är dina slavar." 19 Men Josef sade till dem: "Var inte rädda. Håller ni mig för Gud? 20 Ni tänkte ont mot mig, men Gud har tänkt det till godo genom det som nu har skett för att bevara många människors liv. 21 Var inte rädda. Jag skall sörja för er och era små barn." Och han tröstade dem och talade vänligt till dem.
Josef dör
22 Josef bodde kvar i Egypten med sin fars husfolk, och han blev etthundratio år. 23 Josef fick se Efraims barn till tredje led. Också åt Makir, Manasses son, föddes barn som Josef fick ta i knäet. 24 Och Josef sade till sina bröder: "Jag dör, men Gud skall se till er och föra er upp från det här landet till det land som han med ed har lovat åt Abraham, Isak och Jakob." 25 Och Josef tog ed av Israels söner och sade: "När Gud ser till er, för då mina ben härifrån."
26 Josef dog när han var etthundratio år. Och man balsamerade honom och lade honom i en kista i Egypten.

14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.
15 And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.
16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,
17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.
22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.
23 And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees.

25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.
26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
