Genesis 45:4-8

New International Version

⁴Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.”^(A) When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt!^(B) ⁵And now, do not be distressed^(C) and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here,^(D) because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.^(E) ⁶For two years now there has been famine^(F) in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping. ⁷But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant^(G) on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.^[a]^(H)

⁸“So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God.^(I) He made me father^(J) to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.^(K)

²⁰Where then does wisdom come from?
    Where does understanding dwell?^(A)
²¹It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing,
    concealed even from the birds in the sky.^(B)
²²Destruction^[a]^(C) and Death^(D) say,
    “Only a rumor of it has reached our ears.”
²³God understands the way to it
    and he alone^(E) knows where it dwells,^(F)
²⁴for he views the ends of the earth^(G)
    and sees everything under the heavens.^(H)
²⁵When he established the force of the wind
    and measured out the waters,^(I)
²⁶when he made a decree for the rain^(J)
    and a path for the thunderstorm,^(K)
²⁷then he looked at wisdom and appraised it;
    he confirmed it and tested it.^(L)
²⁸And he said to the human race,
    “The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom,
    and to shun evil^(M) is understanding.”^(N)
