18 But the men were afraid when they were brought to Joseph’s house. They said, “We are being brought in because of[a] the money that was returned in our sacks last time.[b] He wants to capture us,[c] make us slaves, and take[d] our donkeys!” 19 So they approached the man who was in charge of Joseph’s household and spoke to him at the entrance to the house. 20 They said, “My lord, we did indeed come down[e] the first time[f] to buy food.

18 And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph's house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.
19 And they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,
20 And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:

18 Now the men were frightened(A) when they were taken to his house.(B) They thought, “We were brought here because of the silver that was put back into our sacks(C) the first time. He wants to attack us(D) and overpower us and seize us as slaves(E) and take our donkeys.(F)”
19 So they went up to Joseph’s steward(G) and spoke to him at the entrance to the house. 20 “We beg your pardon, our lord,” they said, “we came down here the first time to buy food.(H)
