⁵⁵ When all Egypt began to feel the famine,^(A) the people cried to Pharaoh for food. Then Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph and do what he tells you.”^(B)

⁵⁶ When the famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians,^(C) for the famine^(D) was severe throughout Egypt.^{(E) 57} And all the world came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph,^(F) because the famine was severe everywhere.^(G)

¹⁷ Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals^(A) and return to the land of Canaan,^{(B) 18} and bring your father and your families back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt^(C) and you can enjoy the fat of the land.’^(D)

¹⁹ “You are also directed to tell them, ‘Do this: Take some carts^(E) from Egypt for your children and your wives, and get your father and come. ²⁰ Never mind about your belongings,^(F) because the best of all Egypt^(G) will be yours.’”

⁵ Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you,

⁶ and the land of Egypt is before you; settle^(A) your father and your brothers in the best part of the land.^(B) Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability,^(C) put them in charge of my own livestock.^(D)”

⁸ Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt.^(A)
