Genesis 40

Joseph Interprets a Dream
40 Then it came about after these things, (A)the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt offended their lord, the king of Egypt. 2 Pharaoh was (B)furious with his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker. 3 So he put them in confinement in the house of the (C)captain of the bodyguard, in the jail, the same place where Joseph was imprisoned. 4 The captain of the bodyguard put Joseph in charge of them, and he [a]took care of them; and they were in confinement for [b]some time. 5 Then the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt, who were confined in jail, both had a dream the same night, each man with his own dream and each dream with its own interpretation. 6 [c]When Joseph came to them in the morning and observed them, [d]behold, they were dejected. 7 He asked Pharaoh’s officials who were with him in confinement in his master’s house, “[e](D)Why are your faces so sad today?” 8 Then they said to him, “(E)We have [f]had a dream and there is no one to interpret it.” Then Joseph said to them, “(F)Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell it to me, please.”
9 So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “In my dream, [g]behold, there was a vine in front of me; 10 and on the vine were three branches. And as it was budding, its blossoms came out, and its clusters produced ripe grapes. 11 Now Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; so I took the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I put the cup into Pharaoh’s [h]hand.” 12 Then Joseph said to him, “This is the (G)interpretation of it: the three branches are three days; 13 within three more days Pharaoh will [i]lift up your head and restore you to your [j]office; and you will put Pharaoh’s cup into his hand according to your former custom when you were his cupbearer. 14 Only [k]keep me in mind when it goes well with you, and please (H)do me a kindness [l]by mentioning me to Pharaoh and get me out of this house. 15 For (I)I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the [m]dungeon.”
16 When the chief baker saw that he had interpreted favorably, he said to Joseph, “I also saw in my dream, and behold, there were three baskets of white bread on my head; 17 and in the top basket there were some of all [n]sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, and the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.” 18 Then Joseph answered and said, “This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days; 19 within three more days Pharaoh will lift up your head from you and will hang you on a tree, and the birds will eat your flesh off you.”
20 Thus it came about on the third day, which was (J)Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; (K)and he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. 21 He restored the chief cupbearer to his [o]office, and (L)he put the cup into Pharaoh’s [p]hand; 22 but (M)he hanged the chief baker, just as Joseph had interpreted to them. 23 Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but (N)forgot him.

Psalm 34:1-10
New American Standard Bible 1995
The Lord, a Provider and Deliverer.
A Psalm of David when he [a]feigned madness before [b]Abimelech, who drove him away and he departed.
34 I will (A)bless the Lord at all times;
His (B)praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul will (C)make its boast in the Lord;
The (D)humble will hear it and rejoice.
3 O (E)magnify the Lord with me,
And let us (F)exalt His name together.
4 I (G)sought the Lord, and He answered me,
And (H)delivered me from all my fears.
5 They (I)looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces will (J)never be ashamed.
6 This [c]poor man cried, and (K)the Lord heard him
And saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The (L)angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him,
And rescues them.
8 O (M)taste and see that the Lord is good;
How (N)blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
9 O fear the Lord, you (O)His saints;
For to those who fear Him there is (P)no want.
10 The young lions do lack and suffer hunger;
But they who seek the Lord shall (Q)not be in want of any good thing.

Mark 8:22-38
New American Standard Bible 1995
22 And they *came to (A)Bethsaida. And they *brought a blind man to Jesus and *implored Him to (B)touch him. 23 Taking the blind man by the hand, He (C)brought him out of the village; and after (D)spitting on his eyes and (E)laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?” 24 And he [a]looked up and said, “I see men, for [b]I see them like trees, walking around.” 25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly. 26 And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter (F)the village.”
Peter’s Confession of Christ
27 (G)Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of (H)Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 (I)They told Him, saying, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.” 29 And He continued by questioning them, “But who do you say that I am?” (J)Peter *answered and *said to Him, “You are [c]the Christ.” 30 And (K)He [d]warned them to tell no one about Him.
31 (L)And He began to teach them that (M)the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And He was stating the matter (N)plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and *said, “Get behind Me, (O)Satan; for you are not setting your mind on [e]God’s interests, but man’s.”
34 And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and (P)take up his cross and follow Me. 35 For (Q)whoever wishes to save his [f]life will lose it, but whoever loses his [g]life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 For (R)whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, (S)the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He (T)comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
