⁸ “We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.”^(A)

Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God?^(B) Tell me your dreams.”

⁴⁷ The king said to Daniel, “Surely your God is the God of gods^(A) and the Lord of kings^(B) and a revealer of mysteries,^(C) for you were able to reveal this mystery.^(D)”

¹⁵ Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and no one can interpret it.^(A) But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”^(B)

¹⁶ “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”^(C)

²⁸ but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.^(A) He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come.^(B) Your dream and the visions that passed through your mind^(C) as you were lying in bed^(D) are these:^(E)

¹⁰ to another miraculous powers,^(A) to another prophecy,^(B) to another distinguishing between spirits,^(C) to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,^[a](D) and to still another the interpretation of tongues.^{[b] 11} All these are the work of one and the same Spirit,^(E) and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods^(A) in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom^(B) like that of the gods.^(C) Your father, King Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners.^{(D) 12} He did this because Daniel, whom the king called Belteshazzar,^(E) was found to have a keen mind and knowledge and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles^(F) and solve difficult problems.^(G) Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.^(H)”

¹³ So Daniel was brought before the king, and the king said to him, “Are you Daniel, one of the exiles my father the king brought from Judah?^{(I) 14} I have heard that the spirit of the gods^(J) is in you and that you have insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom.^{(K) 15} The wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this writing and tell me what it means, but they could not explain it.^(L)

¹¹ What the king asks is too difficult. No one can reveal it to the king except the gods,^(A) and they do not live among humans.”
