Cain and Abel
4 Now the man [a]had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, “I have obtained a male child with the help of the Lord.” 2 And again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now (A)Abel was (B)a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a cultivator of the ground. 3 So it came about [b]in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the Lord from the fruit of the ground. 4 (C)Abel, on his part also brought an offering, from the firstborn of his flock and from their fat portions. And (D)the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering; 5 but (E)for Cain and his offering He had no regard. So (F)Cain became very angry and his face [c]was gloomy. 6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “(G)Why are you angry? And why is your face [d]gloomy? 7 (H)If you do well, [e]will your face not be [f]cheerful? (I)And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door; and its desire is for you, (J)but you must master it.” 8 Cain [g]talked to his brother Abel; and it happened that when they were in the field Cain rose up against his brother Abel and (K)killed him.
9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “(L)Where is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 Then He said, “What have you done? (M)The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to Me from the ground. 11 Now (N)you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 (O)When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; (P)you will be a wanderer and a drifter on the earth.” 13 Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is too great to endure! 14 Behold, You have (Q)driven me this day from the face of the ground; and I will be hidden from Your face, and (R)I will be a wanderer and a drifter on the earth, and (S)whoever finds me will kill me.” 15 So the Lord said to him, “Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him (T)seven times as much.” And the Lord [h](U)placed a mark on Cain, so that no one finding him would kill him.
16 Then Cain left the presence (V)of the Lord, and [i]settled in the land of [j]Nod, east of Eden.
17 Cain [k]had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and Cain built a city, and named the city Enoch, after the name of his son. 18 Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech. 19 Lamech took (W)two wives for himself: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and flute. 22 As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
23 Lamech said to his wives,
“Adah and Zillah,
Listen to my voice,
You wives of Lamech,
Pay attention to my words,
(X)For I have killed a man for wounding me;
And a boy for striking me!
24 If Cain is avenged (Y)seven times,
Then Lamech seventy-seven times!”
25 (Z)Adam [l]had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him [m]Seth, for, she said, “God [n]has appointed me another [o]child in place of Abel, (AA)because Cain killed him.” 26 To Seth also (AB)a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then people began (AC)to call [p]upon the name of the Lord.

Ca-in Giết A-bên
4 A-đam biết Ê-va vợ ông; bà thọ thai và sinh Ca-in. Bà nói, “Nhờ Chúa giúp đỡ, tôi đã sinh được một người.” 2 Sau đó bà sinh A-bên em trai Ca-in. A-bên làm nghề chăn chiên, còn Ca-in làm nghề nông. 3 Một ngày kia Ca-in đem dâng lên Chúa hoa quả của ruộng vườn do ông canh tác. 4 Về phần A-bên, ông dâng các con chiên đầu lòng trong bầy của ông cùng với mỡ của chúng. Chúa đoái đến A-bên và nhậm lễ vật của ông, 5 nhưng Ngài không đoái đến Ca-in và lễ vật của ông ấy. Vì thế Ca-in rất giận và gằm nét mặt. 6 Chúa phán với Ca-in, “Tại sao ngươi giận, và tại sao ngươi gằm nét mặt? 7 Nếu ngươi có thái độ tốt, Ta há không nhậm lễ vật của ngươi sao? Còn nếu ngươi có thái độ không tốt, tội lỗi đang nằm rình trước cửa ngươi. Nó đang thèm ngươi, nhưng ngươi phải chế ngự nó.”
8 Ca-in nói với A-bên em ông, “Chúng ta hãy ra ngoài đồng.”[a] Ðang khi hai người ở ngoài đồng Ca-in xông vào A-bên em ông và giết chết ông ấy. 9 Chúa hỏi Ca-in, “A-bên, em ngươi đâu?”
Ông đáp, “Tôi không biết; bộ tôi là người giữ em tôi sao?”
10 Chúa phán, “Ngươi đã làm gì? Tiếng của máu em ngươi từ dưới đất kêu thấu đến Ta. 11 Bây giờ đất sẽ nguyền rủa ngươi, đất đã mở miệng nhận lấy máu của em ngươi do tay ngươi làm đổ ra. 12 Khi ngươi canh tác, đất sẽ không sinh hoa lợi cho ngươi nữa. Ngươi sẽ thành một kẻ trốn tránh và một kẻ đi lang thang khắp đất.”
13 Ca-in thưa với Chúa, “Hình phạt dành cho tôi nặng quá, tôi mang không nổi! 14 Ngày nay Ngài đuổi tôi ra khỏi xứ nầy. Tôi sẽ phải trốn khỏi mặt Ngài suốt đời. Tôi phải làm một kẻ trốn tránh và kẻ đi lang thang khắp đất; rồi nếu ai gặp tôi, người ấy có thể giết tôi.”
15 Chúa phán với ông, “Không đâu. Nếu ai giết Ca-in, kẻ ấy sẽ bị báo thù bảy lần.” Chúa đánh dấu trên người Ca-in, để ai gặp ông sẽ không giết ông. 16 Ca-in ra đi khỏi mặt Chúa và định cư ở xứ Nốt,[b] về phía đông của Ê-đen.

17 Ca-in biết vợ ông; nàng thọ thai và sinh Ê-nóc. Ca-in xây một thành và đặt tên là Ê-nóc, theo tên của Ê-nóc con trai ông. 18 Ê-nóc sinh một con trai tên I-rát. I-rát sinh Mê-hu-gia-ên. Mê-hu-gia-ên sinh Mê-thu-sa-ên. Mê-thu-sa-ên sinh La-méc. 19 La-méc cưới hai vợ, một bà tên A-đa, còn bà kia tên Xinh-la. 20 A-đa sinh Gia-banh. Ông ấy là tổ phụ của những người sống trong lều trại và chăn bầy súc vật. 21 Em trai ông ấy tên Giu-banh. Ông nầy là tổ phụ của những người đánh đàn và thổi kèn. 22 Xinh-la sinh Tu-banh Ca-in, người chế tạo các dụng cụ bằng đồng và bằng sắt. Em gái của Tu-banh Ca-in là Na-a-ma. 23 La-méc nói với hai vợ của ông,
“Hỡi A-đa và Xinh-la, hãy nghe anh nói;
Nầy, hai vợ của La-méc, hãy nghe lời anh trình bày,
Anh đã giết một người gây cho anh bị thương,
Tức một người trai trẻ đã đánh anh.
24 Nếu Ca-in được báo thù bảy lần,
La-méc sẽ được báo thù bảy mươi bảy lần.”
25 A-đam biết vợ ông nữa; bà sinh cho ông một con trai và đặt tên là Sết, vì bà nói, “Ðức Chúa Trời đã cho tôi một con trai khác, để thay thế A-bên, vì nó đã bị Ca-in giết.” 26 Sết cũng sinh một con trai, ông đặt tên con trai ông là Ê-nốt. Ðến lúc ấy người ta mới bắt đầu kêu cầu danh Chúa.

4 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21 And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.
23 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
