⁴ and Abel also brought of ^(A)the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord ^(B)had regard for Abel and his offering,

⁴ By faith ^(A)Abel offered to God ^(B)a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And ^(C)through his faith, though he died, he ^(D)still speaks.

^12 (A)you shall set apart to the Lord all that first opens the womb. All the firstborn of your animals that are males shall be the Lord's.

¹⁹ but ^(A)with the precious blood of Christ, like that of ^(B)a lamb ^(C)without blemish or spot. ²⁰ He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but ^(D)was made manifest ^(E)in the last times for the sake of you

^17 (A)But the firstborn of a cow, or the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a goat, you shall not redeem; they are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar and shall burn their fat as a food offering, with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

²² Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and ^(A)without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

Fire from Heaven

7 ^(A)As soon as Solomon finished his prayer, ^(B)fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, ^(C)and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.

²⁶ And David built there an altar to the Lord and presented burnt offerings and peace offerings and called on the Lord, and the Lord^{[a] (A)}answered him with fire from heaven upon the altar of burnt offering.
