Si Jose at ang Asawa ni Potifar
39 Nang dinala na si Jose ng mga Ishmaelita sa Egipto, binili siya ni Potifar na isa sa mga opisyal ng Faraon.[a] (Si Potifar ay kapitan ng mga guwardya sa palasyo.)
2 Ginagabayan ng Panginoon si Jose, kaya naging matagumpay siya. Doon siya nakatira sa bahay ng amo niyang Egipcio na si Potifar. 3 Nakita ni Potifar na ginagabayan ng Panginoon si Jose at pinagpapala sa lahat ng ginagawa niya, 4 kayaʼt panatag ang kalooban niya kay Jose. Ginawa niya ito na sarili niyang alipin at tagapamahala ng kanyang sambahayan at ng lahat ng kanyang ari-arian. 5 Mula nang panahong si Jose ang namamahala, binasbasan ng Panginoon ang sambahayan ni Potifar na Egipcio at ang lahat ng ari-arian niya sa kanyang bahay at bukirin. Ginawa ito ng Panginoon dahil kay Jose. 6 Ipinagkatiwala ni Potifar ang lahat kay Jose at wala na siyang ibang iniintindi maliban na lang sa pagpili ng kakainin niya.
Gwapo si Jose at matipuno ang katawan. 7 Hindi nagtagal, nagkagusto sa kanya ang asawa ng kanyang amo. Inakit niya si Jose para sumiping sa kanya.
8 Pero tumanggi si Jose. Sinabi niya sa babae, “Pakinggan nʼyo po ako! Ipinagkatiwala po sa akin ng amo ko ang lahat ng kanyang ari-arian kaya hindi na po siya nag-aalaa sa mga gamit dito sa kanyang sambahayan. 9 Wala na pong hihigit sa akin sa sambahayang ito. Ipinagkatiwala niya sa akin ang lahat maliban lang sa inyo dahil asawa niya kayo. Kaya hindi ko po magagawang pagtaksilan ang amo ko at magkasala sa Dios.” 10 Kahit araw-araw ang pang-aakit ng babae kay Jose na sumiping sa kanya, hindi pa rin siya pumayag.
11 Isang araw, pumasok si Jose sa bahay para magtrabaho. Nagkataon na wala kahit isang alipin sa loob ng bahay. 12 Hinawakan siya sa damit ng asawa ng amo niya at sinabi, “Sipingan mo ako!” Pero tumakbong palabas ng bahay si Jose, at naiwan ang balabal niya na hawak ng babae.
13 Nang makita ng babae na nakalabas si Jose at hawak niya ang balabal nito, 14 tinawag niya ang kanyang mga alipin at sinabi, “Tingnan ninyo! Dinalhan tayo rito ng asawa ko ng isang Hebreo para hamakin tayo. Alam nʼyo ba na pumasok siya sa silid ko para pagsamantalahan ako, pero sumigaw ako. 15 Kaya tumakbo siya palabas, at naiwan niya ang kanyang balabal.”
16 Itinago ng babae ang balabal ni Jose hanggang sa dumating ang kanyang asawa. 17 Isinalaysay niya agad sa asawa niya ang nangyari. Sinabi niya, “Ang Hebreong alipin na dinala mo rito ay gusto akong hamakin dahil pumasok siya sa silid ko para pagsamantalahan ako. 18 Pero tumakbo siya palabas nang sumigaw ako, at naiwan pa nga ang kanyang balabal.”
19 Nang marinig ni Potifar ang salaysay ng kanyang asawa tungkol sa ginawa ni Jose, galit na galit siya. 20 Kaya ipinadakip niya si Jose at ipinasok sa bilangguan ng hari.
Pero kahit nasa bilangguan si Jose, 21 ginagabayan pa rin siya ng Panginoon. At dahil sa kabutihan ng Panginoon, panatag ang loob ng tagapamahala ng bilangguan kay Jose. 22 Kaya ipinagkatiwala niya kay Jose ang pamamahala sa lahat ng bilanggo at ang lahat ng gawain sa bilangguan. 23 Hindi nag-aalala ang tagapamahala ng bilangguan sa mga bagay na ipinagkatiwala niya kay Jose, dahil ginagabayan ng Panginoon si Jose at pinagpapala sa lahat ng ginagawa niya.

39 Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and (A)Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, (B)had bought him from the (C)Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. 2 (D)The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord (E)caused all that he did to succeed in his hands. 4 So Joseph (F)found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house (G)and put him in charge of all that he had. 5 From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house (H)for Joseph's sake; the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had, in house and field. 6 So he left all that he had in Joseph's charge, and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate.
Now Joseph was (I)handsome in form and appearance. 7 And after a time his master's wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, “Lie with me.” 8 But he refused and said to his master's wife, “Behold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and (J)he has put everything that he has in my charge. 9 He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and (K)sin against God?” 10 And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he (L)would not listen to her, to lie beside her or to be with her.
11 But one day, when he went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was there in the house, 12 (M)she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house. 13 And as soon as she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled out of the house, 14 she called to the men of her household and said to them, “See, he has brought among us a Hebrew to laugh at us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice. 15 And as soon as he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried out, he left his garment beside me and fled and got out of the house.” 16 Then she laid up his garment by her until his master came home, 17 and she told him the same story, saying, “The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought among us, came in to me to laugh at me. 18 But as soon as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment beside me and fled out of the house.”
19 As soon as his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him, “This is the way your servant treated me,” his anger was kindled. 20 And Joseph's master took him and (N)put him into the (O)prison, the place where the king's prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison. 21 But (P)the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love (Q)and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22 And the keeper of the prison (R)put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it. 23 The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph's charge, because (S)the Lord was with him. And whatever he did, the Lord made it succeed.

Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife
39 Now Joseph(A) had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard,(B) bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.(C)
2 The Lord was with Joseph(D) so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the Lord was with him(E) and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did,(F) 4 Joseph found favor in his eyes(G) and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household,(H) and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.(I) 5 From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household(J) of the Egyptian because of Joseph.(K) The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.(L) 6 So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care;(M) with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.
Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,(N) 7 and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”(O)
8 But he refused.(P) “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.(Q) 9 No one is greater in this house than I am.(R) My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”(S) 10 And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused(T) to go to bed with her or even be with her.
11 One day he went into the house to attend to his duties,(U) and none of the household servants(V) was inside. 12 She caught him by his cloak(W) and said, “Come to bed with me!”(X) But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.(Y)
13 When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house, 14 she called her household servants.(Z) “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew(AA) has been brought to us to make sport of us!(AB) He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed.(AC) 15 When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”(AD)
16 She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home. 17 Then she told him this story:(AE) “That Hebrew(AF) slave(AG) you brought us came to me to make sport of me. 18 But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
19 When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger.(AH) 20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison,(AI) the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.
But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 the Lord was with him;(AJ) he showed him kindness(AK) and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.(AL) 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.(AM) 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s(AN) care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.(AO)

39 1 Joseph sold to Potiphar. 2 God prospereth him. 7 Potiphar’s wife tempteth him. 13, 20 He is accused and cast in prison. 23 God showeth him favor.
1 Now Joseph was brought down into Egypt: and Potiphar [a]an Eunuch of Pharaoh’s (and his chief steward an Egyptian) bought him at the hand of the Ishmaelites, which had brought him thither.
2 And the [b]Lord was with Joseph, and he was a man that prospered and was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
4 So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him: and made him [c]ruler of his house, and put all that he had in his hand.
5 And from that time that he had made him ruler over his house and over all that he had, the Lord [d]blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake: and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
6 Therefore he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, [e]and took account of nothing, that was with him, save only of the bread, which he did eat. And Joseph was a fair person, and well favored.
7 Now therefore after these things, his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and said, [f]Lie with me.
8 But he refused and said to his master’s wife, Behold, my master knoweth not what he hath in the house with me, but hath committed all that he had to mine hand.
9 There is no man greater in this house than I: neither hath he kept anything from me, but only thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness and so sin against [g]God?
10 And albeit she spake to Joseph day by day, yet he hearkened not unto her, to lie with her, or to be in her company.
11 Then on a certain day Joseph entered into the house to do his business: and there was no man of the household in the house.
12 Therefore she caught him by his garment, saying, Sleep with me: but he left his garment in her hand and fled, and got him out.
13 Now when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled out,
14 She called unto the men of her house, and told them, saying, Behold, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us [h]to mock us: who came in to me for to have slept with me: but I [i]cried with a loud voice.
15 And when he heard that I lift up my voice and cried, he left his garments with me, and fled away, and got him out.
16 So she laid up his garment by her, until her lord came home.
17 Then she told him [j]according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came into me, to mock me.
18 But as soon as I lift up my voice and cried, he left his garment with me, and fled out.
19 Then when his master heard the words of his wife, which she told him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me, his anger was kindled.
20 And Joseph’s master took him and put him in [k][l]prison, in the place, where the king’s prisoners lay bound: and there he was in prison.
21 ¶ But the Lord was with Joseph, and [m]showed him mercy, and got him favor in the sight of the [n]master of the prison.
22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison, and [o]whatsoever they did there, that did he.
23 And the keeper of the prison looked unto nothing that was under his hand, seeing that the Lord was with him: for whatsoever he did, the Lord made it to prosper.
