Esau’s Descendants(A)(B)
36 This is the account(C) of the family line of Esau (that is, Edom).(D)
2 Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan:(E) Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite,(F) and Oholibamah(G) daughter of Anah(H) and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite(I)— 3 also Basemath(J) daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.(K)
4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel,(L) 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah.(M) These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan.
6 Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan,(N) and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob.(O) 7 Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock.(P) 8 So Esau(Q) (that is, Edom)(R) settled in the hill country of Seir.(S)
9 This is the account(T) of the family line of Esau the father of the Edomites(U) in the hill country of Seir.
10 These are the names of Esau’s sons:
Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath.(V)
11 The sons of Eliphaz:(W)
Teman,(X) Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz.(Y)
12 Esau’s son Eliphaz also had a concubine(Z) named Timna, who bore him Amalek.(AA) These were grandsons of Esau’s wife Adah.(AB)
13 The sons of Reuel:
Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.(AC)
14 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah(AD) daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, whom she bore to Esau:
Jeush, Jalam and Korah.(AE)
15 These were the chiefs(AF) among Esau’s descendants:
The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau:
Chiefs Teman,(AG) Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,(AH) 16 Korah,[a] Gatam and Amalek. These were the chiefs descended from Eliphaz(AI) in Edom;(AJ) they were grandsons of Adah.(AK)
17 The sons of Esau’s son Reuel:(AL)
Chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were the chiefs descended from Reuel in Edom; they were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.(AM)
18 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah:(AN)
Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah.(AO) These were the chiefs descended from Esau’s wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah.
19 These were the sons of Esau(AP) (that is, Edom),(AQ) and these were their chiefs.(AR)
20 These were the sons of Seir the Horite,(AS) who were living in the region:
Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,(AT) 21 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite chiefs.(AU)
22 The sons of Lotan:
Hori and Homam.[b] Timna was Lotan’s sister.
23 The sons of Shobal:
Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam.
24 The sons of Zibeon:(AV)
Aiah and Anah. This is the Anah who discovered the hot springs[c](AW) in the desert while he was grazing the donkeys(AX) of his father Zibeon.
25 The children of Anah:(AY)
Dishon and Oholibamah(AZ) daughter of Anah.
26 The sons of Dishon[d]:
Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran.
27 The sons of Ezer:
Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan.
28 The sons of Dishan:
Uz and Aran.
29 These were the Horite chiefs:
Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,(BA) 30 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These were the Horite chiefs,(BB) according to their divisions, in the land of Seir.
The Rulers of Edom(BC)
31 These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king(BD) reigned:
32 Bela son of Beor became king of Edom. His city was named Dinhabah.
33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah(BE) succeeded him as king.
34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites(BF) succeeded him as king.
35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian(BG) in the country of Moab,(BH) succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith.
36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.
37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth(BI) on the river succeeded him as king.
38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king.
39 When Baal-Hanan son of Akbor died, Hadad[e] succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab.
40 These were the chiefs(BJ) descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions:
Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 43 Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied.
This is the family line of Esau, the father of the Edomites.(BK)

The Family of Esau(A)
36 Now this is the genealogy of Esau, (B)who is Edom. 2 (C)Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the (D)Hittite; (E)Aholibamah[a] the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite; 3 and (F)Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth. 4 Now (G)Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, and Basemath bore Reuel. 5 And [b]Aholibamah bore Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah. These were the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.
6 Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the persons of his household, his cattle and all his animals, and all his goods which he had gained in the land of Canaan, and went to a country away from the presence of his brother Jacob. 7 (H)For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together, and (I)the land where they were strangers could not support them because of their livestock. 8 So Esau dwelt in (J)Mount Seir. (K)Esau is Edom.
9 And this is the genealogy of Esau the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir. 10 These were the names of Esau’s sons: (L)Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, and Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau. 11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, [c]Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
12 Now Timna was the concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore (M)Amalek to Eliphaz. These were the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife.
13 These were the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife.
14 These were the sons of [d]Aholibamah, Esau’s wife, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon. And she bore to Esau: Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah.
The Chiefs of Edom
15 These were the chiefs of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn son of Esau, were Chief Teman, Chief Omar, Chief Zepho, Chief Kenaz, 16 [e]Chief Korah, Chief Gatam, and Chief Amalek. These were the chiefs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom. They were the sons of Adah.
17 These were the sons of Reuel, Esau’s son: Chief Nahath, Chief Zerah, Chief Shammah, and Chief Mizzah. These were the chiefs of Reuel in the land of Edom. These were the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife.
18 And these were the sons of [f]Aholibamah, Esau’s wife: Chief Jeush, Chief Jaalam, and Chief Korah. These were the chiefs who descended from Aholibamah, Esau’s wife, the daughter of Anah. 19 These were the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these were their chiefs.
The Sons of Seir
20 (N)These were the sons of Seir (O)the Horite who inhabited the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 21 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. These were the chiefs of the Horites, the sons of Seir, in the land of Edom.
22 And the sons of Lotan were Hori and [g]Hemam. Lotan’s sister was Timna.
23 These were the sons of Shobal: [h]Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, [i]Shepho, and Onam.
24 These were the sons of Zibeon: both Ajah and Anah. This was the Anah who found the [j]water in the wilderness as he pastured (P)the donkeys of his father Zibeon. 25 These were the children of Anah: Dishon and [k]Aholibamah the daughter of Anah.
26 These were the sons of [l]Dishon: [m]Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran. 27 These were the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and [n]Akan. 28 These were the sons of Dishan: (Q)Uz and Aran.
29 These were the chiefs of the Horites: Chief Lotan, Chief Shobal, Chief Zibeon, Chief Anah, 30 Chief Dishon, Chief Ezer, and Chief Dishan. These were the chiefs of the Horites, according to their chiefs in the land of Seir.
The Kings of Edom
31 (R)Now these were the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the children of Israel: 32 Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom, and the name of his city was Dinhabah. 33 And when Bela died, Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his place. 34 When Jobab died, Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. 35 And when Husham died, Hadad the son of Bedad, who attacked Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Avith. 36 When Hadad died, Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. 37 And when Samlah died, Saul of (S)Rehoboth-by-the-River reigned in his place. 38 When Saul died, Baal-Hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his place. 39 And when Baal-Hanan the son of Achbor died, [o]Hadar reigned in his place; and the name of his city was [p]Pau. His wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.
The Chiefs of Esau
40 And these were the names of the chiefs of Esau, according to their families and their places, by their names: Chief Timnah, Chief [q]Alvah, Chief Jetheth, 41 Chief [r]Aholibamah, Chief Elah, Chief Pinon, 42 Chief Kenaz, Chief Teman, Chief Mibzar, 43 Chief Magdiel, and Chief Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their dwelling places in the land of their possession. Esau was the father of [s]the Edomites.

(대상 1:34-37)
36 에서 곧 에돔의 계보는 이러하다. 2 에서는 가나안 여자들 가운데서 아내들을 맞이하였다. 그들은 헷 사람 알론의 딸 아다와 히위 사람 시브온의 손녀이며 아나의 딸인 오홀리바마와 3 이스마엘의 딸이며 느바욧의 누이인 바스맛이다.
4 아다는 에서에게 엘리바스를 낳아 주고 바스맛은 르우엘을 낳아 주었다. 5 그리고 오홀리바마는 여우스와 얄람과 고라를 낳아 주었다. 이들이 에서가 가나안 땅에 있을 때 얻은 아들들이다.
6 에서는 아내들과 아들들과 딸들과 자기 집안의 모든 사람과 집짐승과 또 다른 모든 짐승과 가나안에서 얻은 모든 재산을 이끌고 자기의 동생 야곱에게서 좀 떨어진 곳으로 옮겨갔다. 7 그들의 재산이 너무 많아서 함께 살 수 없었기 때문이다. 그들이 살고 있는 땅이 두 사람이 가진 가축을 다 먹여 살릴 수가 없었다. 8 그래서 에서는 세일의 산간지방으로 옮겨 자리를 잡았다. 에서의 또 다른 이름은 에돔이다.
9 세일의 산간 지방에 사는 에돔 사람의 조상 에서의 계보는 이러하다.
10 에서의 아들들의 이름은 다음과 같다. 에서의 아내 아다가 낳은 아들의 이름은 엘리바스이고 에서의 아내 바스맛이 낳은 아들의 이름은 르우엘이다.
11 엘리바스가 낳은 아들들은 데만, 오말, 스보, 가담, 그나스이다.
12 에서의 아들 엘리바스에게는 딤나라는 소실이 있었는데 딤나는 그에게 아말렉을 낳아 주었다. 이들이 에서의 아내 아다의 손자들이다.
13 르우엘이 낳은 아들들은 나핫, 세라, 삼마, 미사이다. 이들이 에서의 아내 바스맛의 손자들이다.
14 에서의 아내 오홀리바마가 낳은 아들들은 여우스, 얄람, 고라이다.(오홀리바마는 시브온의 손녀이며 아나의 딸이다.)
15 에서에게서 나온 종족의 추장들은 다음과 같다.
에서의 맏아들 엘리바스에게서 나온 부족의 추장들은 데만, 오말, 스보, 그나스, 16 고라, 가담, 아말렉이다. 이들이 에돔 땅에서 엘리바스가 이룬 부족의 추장들이다. 이들은 모두 아다의 자손들이다.
17 에서의 아들 르우엘에게서 나온 부족의 추장들은 다음과 같다. 나핫, 세라, 삼마, 미사.
이들이 에돔 땅에서 르우엘이 이룬 부족의 추장들이다. 이들은 에서의 아내 바스맛의 자손들이다.
18 에서의 아내 오홀리바마의 자손들이 이룬 부족의 추장들은 다음과 같다. 여우스, 얄람, 고라. 이들이 아나의 딸이며 에서의 아내인 오홀리바마에게서 나온 부족의 추장들이다.
19 이들이 에서 곧 에돔의 자손들로서 에돔 땅에서 그들이 이룬 부족들의 추장들이다.
세일의 집안
(대상 1:38-42)
20 세일은 호리족에 속한 사람인데 그 지방에 자리 잡고 살던 그의 아들들은 로단과
소발과 시브온과 아나와 21 디손과 에셀과 디산이다. 이들이 에돔 땅에 사는 세일의 아들들로서 호리족의 추장들이다.
22 로단의 아들들은 호리와 헤맘[a]이다. 딤나는 로단의 누이이다.
23 소발의 아들들은 알완, 마나핫, 에발, 스보, 오남이다.
24 시브온의 아들들은 아야와 아나이다.(자기 아버지의 나귀들을 돌보다가 광야에서 온천을 찾아낸 사람이 바로 이 아나이다.)
25 아나의 아들은 디손이고 아나의 딸은 오홀리바마이다.
26 디손의 아들들은 헴단, 에스반, 이드란, 그란이다.
27 에셀의 아들들은 빌한, 사아완, 아간이다.
28 디산의 아들들은 우스와 아란이다.
29 호리족에 속한 부족의 추장들은 다음과 같다. 로단, 소발, 시브온, 아나, 30 디손, 에셀, 디산이다. 이들이 세일 땅에 살던 호리족에 속한 추장들을 그 부족에 따라 말한 것이다.
에돔의 왕들
(대상 1:43-54)
31 이스라엘에 아직 왕이 없을 때에 에돔 땅에서 다스리던 왕들은 다음과 같다.
32 브올의 아들 벨라가 에돔의 왕이 되었다. 그의 수도의 이름은 딘하바이다.
33 벨라가 죽자 보스라 사람 세라의 아들 요밥이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.
34 요밥이 죽자 데만 사람의 땅에서 온 후삼이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.
35 후삼이 죽자 브닷의 아들 하닷이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다. 하닷은 모압 땅에서 미디안 사람들을 물리친 사람이다. 하닷이 다스린 도성의 이름은 아윗이다.
36 하닷이 죽자 마스레가 출신 삼라가 왕이 되었다.
37 삼라가 죽자 사울이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다. 그는 강 가에 자리 잡은 르호봇 출신이다.
38 사울이 죽자 악볼의 아들 바알하난이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.
39 악볼의 아들 바알하난이 죽자 하닷[b]이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다. 그의 수도의 이름은 바우이고 그의 아내의 이름은 므헤다벨이다. 므헤다벨은 마드렛의 딸이고 마드렛은 메사합의 딸이다.
40 에서에게서 나온 부족의 추장들을 가문과 거주지에 따라 나눈 명단은 다음과 같다.
딤나, 알와, 여뎃, 41 오홀리바마, 엘라, 비논, 42 그나스, 데만, 밉살, 43 막디엘, 이람. 이들이 에서를 조상으로 하는 에돔의 추장들이다. 그들은 조상에게서 물려받은 땅에서 따로따로 자리 잡고 살았다.
