De afstammelingen van Esau
36 Hier is een lijst van de afstammelingen van Esau (die ook wel Edom werd genoemd):
2 Esau trouwde met drie Kanaänitische meisjes: Ada, de dochter van de Hethiet Elon, Oholibama, de dochter van Ana en kleindochter van de Chiwwiet Sibon, 3 en Basemat, de dochter van Ismaël (dus Esauʼs nicht) en de zuster van Nebajot. 4 Esau en Ada kregen een zoon, Elifaz. Esau en Basemat hadden een zoon met de naam Reüel. 5 Esau en Oholibama hadden drie zonen: Jeüs, Jalam en Korach. Al deze zonen werden geboren in het land Kanaän.
6-8 Toen nam Esau zijn vrouwen, zijn kinderen, zijn hele huishouding, het vee en de kudde—alle bezittingen die hij in Kanaän had vergaard—en trok naar het gebergte Seïr, weg van zijn broer Jakob. Het land was niet groot genoeg om in alle behoeften van hun vee te voorzien.
9 Hier zijn de namen van Esauʼs afstammelingen, de Edomieten die hem in het gebergte Seïr werden geboren:
10-12 Nakomelingen van zijn vrouw Ada, die haar zoon Elifaz kreeg, waren: Teman, Omar, Sefo, Gatam, Kenaz en Amalek (dat was een kind van Timna, de bijvrouw van Elifaz). 13,14 Esau kreeg ook kleinkinderen via zijn vrouw Basemat. Haar zoon Reüel kreeg Nachat, Zerach, Samma en Mizza.
15,16 Esauʼs kleinkinderen werden stamhoofden van de volgende stammen: de stam van Teman, de stam van Omar, de stam van Sefo, de stam van Kenaz, de stam van Korach, de stam van Gaëtam en de stam van Amalek. De bovengenoemde stammen waren nakomelingen van Elifaz, de oudste zoon van Esau en Ada. 17 De volgende stammen waren nakomelingen van Reüel, de zoon die Esau en Basemat kregen in Kanaän: de stam van Nachat, de stam van Zerach, de stam van Samma en de stam van Mizza.
18,19 En dit zijn de stammen die de namen dragen van de zonen van Esau en Oholibama (de dochter van Ana): de stam van Jeüs, de stam van Jalam en de stam van Korach.
20,21 Dit zijn de namen van de stammen die voortkwamen uit Seïr: de stam van Lotan, de stam van Sobal, de stam van Sibon, de stam van Ana, de stam van Dison, de stam van Eser en de stam van Disan.
22 De kinderen van Lotan (de zoon van Seïr) waren Chori en Hemam (Lotan had ook nog een zuster, Timna). 23 De kinderen van Sobal waren Alwan, Manachat, Ebal, Sefo en Onam. 24 De kinderen van Sibon waren Ajja en Ana (deze jongen vond hete bronnen in de woestijn, terwijl hij de ezels van zijn vader hoedde). 25 De kinderen van Ana waren Dison en het meisje Oholibama. 26 De kinderen van Dison waren Chemdan, Esban, Jitran en Keran. 27 De kinderen van Eser waren Bilhan, Zaäwan en Akan. 28-30 De kinderen van Disan waren Us en Aran.
31-39 Dit zijn de namen van de koningen die Edom regeerden voordat Israël haar eerste koning had: koning Bela, de zoon van Beor, regeerde vanuit de stad Dinhaba in Edom. Zijn opvolger was koning Jobab, de zoon van Zerach en deze regeerde in Bosra. Toen Jobab stierf, volgde Chusam uit Teman hem op. Diens opvolger was koning Hadad, de zoon van Bedad, de aanvoerder van de strijdkrachten die het leger van Midjan versloegen toen het Moab binnendrong. Hij woonde in de stad Awit. Zijn opvolger was koning Samla, die regeerde vanuit Masreka. Diens opvolger was koning Saül, die regeerde vanuit Rechobot, aan de rivier. Saüls opvolger was koning Baäl-Chanan, de zoon van Achbor. Diens opvolger was koning Hadar, die regeerde vanuit de stad Paü. Zijn vrouw heette Mehetabel en was de dochter van Matred en kleindochter van Me-Zahab.
40-43 Hier zijn de namen van de onderstammen van Esau. De plaatsen waar zij woonden, werden naar hen genoemd: de stam van Timna, de stam van Alwa, de stam van Jetet, de stam van Oholibama, de stam van Ela, de stam van Pinon, de stam van Kenaz, de stam van Teman, de stam van Mibsar, de stam van Magdiël en de stam van Iram. Dit zijn dus de namen van de onderstammen van Edom die hun namen gaven aan de gebieden die zij bewoonden (het waren allemaal Edomieten, afstammelingen van Esau).

36 Estas son las generaciones de Esaú, el cual es Edom: 2 Esaú tomó sus mujeres(A) de las hijas de Canaán: a Ada, hija de Elón heteo, a Aholibama, hija de Aná, hijo de Zibeón heveo, 3 y a Basemat hija de Ismael, hermana de Nebaiot.(B) 4 Ada dio a luz a Esaú a Elifaz; y Basemat dio a luz a Reuel. 5 Y Aholibama dio a luz a Jeús, a Jaalam y a Coré; estos son los hijos de Esaú, que le nacieron en la tierra de Canaán. 6 Y Esaú tomó sus mujeres, sus hijos y sus hijas, y todas las personas de su casa, y sus ganados, y todas sus bestias, y todo cuanto había adquirido en la tierra de Canaán, y se fue a otra tierra, separándose de Jacob su hermano. 7 Porque los bienes de ellos eran muchos; y no podían habitar juntos, ni la tierra en donde moraban los podía sostener a causa de sus ganados. 8 Y Esaú habitó en el monte de Seir; Esaú es Edom.
9 Estos son los linajes de Esaú, padre de Edom, en el monte de Seir. 10 Estos son los nombres de los hijos de Esaú: Elifaz, hijo de Ada mujer de Esaú; Reuel, hijo de Basemat mujer de Esaú. 11 Y los hijos de Elifaz fueron Temán, Omar, Zefo, Gatam y Cenaz. 12 Y Timna fue concubina de Elifaz hijo de Esaú, y ella le dio a luz a Amalec; estos son los hijos de Ada, mujer de Esaú. 13 Los hijos de Reuel fueron Nahat, Zera, Sama y Miza; estos son los hijos de Basemat mujer de Esaú. 14 Estos fueron los hijos de Aholibama mujer de Esaú, hija de Aná, que fue hijo de Zibeón: ella dio a luz a Jeús, Jaalam y Coré, hijos de Esaú.
15 Estos son los jefes de entre los hijos de Esaú: hijos de Elifaz, primogénito de Esaú: los jefes Temán, Omar, Zefo, Cenaz, 16 Coré, Gatam y Amalec; estos son los jefes de Elifaz en la tierra de Edom; estos fueron los hijos de Ada. 17 Y estos son los hijos de Reuel, hijo de Esaú: los jefes Nahat, Zera, Sama y Miza; estos son los jefes de la línea de Reuel en la tierra de Edom; estos hijos vienen de Basemat mujer de Esaú. 18 Y estos son los hijos de Aholibama mujer de Esaú: los jefes Jeús, Jaalam y Coré; estos fueron los jefes que salieron de Aholibama mujer de Esaú, hija de Aná. 19 Estos, pues, son los hijos de Esaú, y sus jefes; él es Edom.
20 Estos son los hijos de Seir horeo, moradores de aquella tierra: Lotán, Sobal, Zibeón, Aná, 21 Disón, Ezer y Disán; estos son los jefes de los horeos, hijos de Seir, en la tierra de Edom. 22 Los hijos de Lotán fueron Hori y Hemam; y Timna fue hermana de Lotán. 23 Los hijos de Sobal fueron Alván, Manahat, Ebal, Sefo y Onam. 24 Y los hijos de Zibeón fueron Aja y Aná. Este Aná es el que descubrió manantiales en el desierto, cuando apacentaba los asnos de Zibeón su padre. 25 Los hijos de Aná fueron Disón, y Aholibama hija de Aná. 26 Estos fueron los hijos de Disón: Hemdán, Esbán, Itrán y Querán. 27 Y estos fueron los hijos de Ezer: Bilhán, Zaaván y Acán. 28 Estos fueron los hijos de Disán: Uz y Arán. 29 Y estos fueron los jefes de los horeos: los jefes Lotán, Sobal, Zibeón, Aná, 30 Disón, Ezer y Disán; estos fueron los jefes de los horeos, por sus mandos en la tierra de Seir.
31 Y los reyes que reinaron en la tierra de Edom, antes que reinase rey sobre los hijos de Israel, fueron estos: 32 Bela hijo de Beor reinó en Edom; y el nombre de su ciudad fue Dinaba. 33 Murió Bela, y reinó en su lugar Jobab hijo de Zera, de Bosra. 34 Murió Jobab, y en su lugar reinó Husam, de tierra de Temán. 35 Murió Husam, y reinó en su lugar Hadad hijo de Bedad, el que derrotó a Madián en el campo de Moab; y el nombre de su ciudad fue Avit. 36 Murió Hadad, y en su lugar reinó Samla de Masreca. 37 Murió Samla, y reinó en su lugar Saúl de Rehobot junto al Éufrates. 38 Murió Saúl, y en lugar suyo reinó Baal-hanán hijo de Acbor. 39 Y murió Baal-hanán hijo de Acbor, y reinó Hadar en lugar suyo; y el nombre de su ciudad fue Pau; y el nombre de su mujer, Mehetabel hija de Matred, hija de Mezaab. 40 Estos, pues, son los nombres de los jefes de Esaú por sus linajes, por sus lugares, y sus nombres: Timna, Alva, Jetet, 41 Aholibama, Ela, Pinón, 42 Cenaz, Temán, Mibzar, 43 Magdiel e Iram. Estos fueron los jefes de Edom según sus moradas en la tierra de su posesión. Edom es el mismo Esaú, padre de los edomitas.

2 Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite;
3 And Bashemath Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebajoth.
4 And Adah bare to Esau Eliphaz; and Bashemath bare Reuel;
5 And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan.
6 And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.
7 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle.
8 Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.
9 And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir:
10 These are the names of Esau's sons; Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Bashemath the wife of Esau.
11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz.
12 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau's wife.
13 And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.
14 And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau's wife: and she bare to Esau Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah.
15 These were dukes of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the firstborn son of Esau; duke Teman, duke Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz,
16 Duke Korah, duke Gatam, and duke Amalek: these are the dukes that came of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these were the sons of Adah.
17 And these are the sons of Reuel Esau's son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these are the dukes that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.
18 And these are the sons of Aholibamah Esau's wife; duke Jeush, duke Jaalam, duke Korah: these were the dukes that came of Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau's wife.
19 These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their dukes.
20 These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah,
21 And Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan: these are the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom.
22 And the children of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan's sister was Timna.
23 And the children of Shobal were these; Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.
24 And these are the children of Zibeon; both Ajah, and Anah: this was that Anah that found the mules in the wilderness, as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father.
25 And the children of Anah were these; Dishon, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah.

27 The children of Ezer are these; Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Akan.

30 Duke Dishon, duke Ezer, duke Dishan: these are the dukes that came of Hori, among their dukes in the land of Seir.
31 And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel.
32 And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom: and the name of his city was Dinhabah.
33 And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead.
34 And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead.
35 And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Avith.
36 And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead.

43 Duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these be the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession: he is Esau the father of the Edomites.
