35 God said to Jacob, ‘Get up! Go to Bethel and settle there.(A) Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.’(B)
2 So Jacob said to his family and all who were with him, ‘Get rid of the foreign gods that are among you.(C) Purify yourselves and change your clothes.(D) 3 We must get up and go to Bethel. I will build an altar there to the God who answered me in my day of distress.(E) He has been with me everywhere I have gone.’(F)
4 Then they gave Jacob all their foreign gods and their earrings, and Jacob hid them under the oak near Shechem. 5 When they set out, a terror from God came over the cities around them, and they did not pursue Jacob’s sons.(G) 6 So Jacob and all who were with him came to Luz (that is, Bethel(H)) in the land of Canaan. 7 Jacob built an altar there and called the place El-bethel[a] because it was there that God had revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.
8 Deborah, the one who had nursed and brought up Rebekah,[b](I) died and was buried under the oak south of Bethel. So Jacob named it Allon-bacuth.[c]
9 God appeared to Jacob again after he returned from Paddan-aram, and he blessed him. 10 God said to him, ‘Your name is Jacob; you will no longer be named Jacob, but your name will be Israel.’(J) So he named him Israel. 11 God also said to him, ‘I am God Almighty.(K) Be fruitful and multiply.(L) A nation, indeed an assembly of nations, will come from you,(M) and kings will descend from you.[d](N) 12 I will give to you the land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac.(O) And I will give the land to your future descendants.’ 13 Then God withdrew[e](P) from him at the place where he had spoken to him.
14 Jacob set up a marker at the place where he had spoken to him – a stone marker. He poured a drink offering on it and poured oil on it.(Q) 15 Jacob named the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.
Rachel’s Death
16 They set out from Bethel. When they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth, and her labour was difficult. 17 During her difficult labour, the midwife said to her, ‘Don’t be afraid, for you have another son.’(R) 18 With her last breath – for she was dying – she named him Ben-oni,[f] but his father called him Benjamin.[g] 19 So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem(S)). 20 Jacob set up a marker on her grave; it is the marker at Rachel’s grave still today.
Israel’s Sons
21 Israel set out again and pitched his tent beyond the Tower of Eder.[h] 22 While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard about it.(T)
Jacob had twelve sons:(U)
23 Leah’s sons were Reuben (Jacob’s firstborn),
Simeon, Levi, Judah,
Issachar, and Zebulun.
24 Rachel’s sons were
Joseph and Benjamin.
25 The sons of Rachel’s slave Bilhah
were Dan and Naphtali.
26 The sons of Leah’s slave Zilpah
were Gad and Asher.
These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan-aram.
Isaac’s Death
27 Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre(V) in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron(W)), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed. 28 Isaac lived for 180 years. 29 He took his last breath and died, and was gathered to his people,(X) old and full of days. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

35 Dumnezeu a zis lui Iacov: „Scoală-te, suie-te la Betel(A), locuieşte acolo şi ridică acolo un altar Dumnezeului care(B) ţi S-a arătat când(C) fugeai de fratele tău Esau.” 2 Iacov a zis casei(D) lui şi tuturor celor ce erau cu el: „Scoateţi dumnezeii străini(E) care sunt în mijlocul vostru, curăţiţi-vă(F) şi schimbaţi-vă hainele, 3 ca să ne sculăm şi să ne suim la Betel, căci acolo voi ridica un altar Dumnezeului care(G) m-a ascultat în ziua necazului meu şi(H) care a fost cu mine în călătoria pe care am făcut-o.” 4 Ei au dat lui Iacov toţi dumnezeii străini care erau în mâinile lor şi cerceii(I) pe care-i purtau în urechi. Iacov i-a îngropat în pământ, sub stejarul(J) de lângă Sihem. 5 Apoi au plecat. Groaza(K) lui Dumnezeu s-a răspândit peste cetăţile care-i înconjurau, aşa că locuitorii lor n-au urmărit pe fiii lui Iacov. 6 Iacov şi toţi cei ce erau cu el au ajuns la Luz(L), adică Betel, în ţara Canaan. 7 A zidit(M) acolo un altar şi a numit locul acela El-Betel (Dumnezeul Betelului), căci acolo(N) i Se descoperise Dumnezeu când fugea de fratele său. 8 Debora(O), doica Rebecăi, a murit şi a fost îngropată mai jos de Betel, sub stejarul căruia i s-a pus numele: „Stejarul jalei.” 9 Dumnezeu(P) S-a arătat iarăşi lui Iacov după întoarcerea lui din Padan-Aram şi l-a binecuvântat. 10 Dumnezeu i-a zis: „Numele tău(Q) este Iacov, dar nu te vei mai chema Iacov, ci numele tău(R) va fi Israel.” Şi i-a pus numele Israel. 11 Dumnezeu i-a zis: „Eu sunt(S) Dumnezeul Cel Atotputernic. Creşte şi înmulţeşte-te; un neam(T) şi o mulţime de neamuri se vor naşte din tine şi chiar împăraţi vor ieşi din coapsele tale. 12 Ţie îţi voi da ţara pe(U) care am dat-o lui Avraam şi lui Isaac şi voi da ţara aceasta seminţei tale după tine.” 13 Dumnezeu S-a înălţat(V) de la el, în locul unde îi vorbise. 14 Şi Iacov a ridicat(W) un stâlp de aducere-aminte în locul unde îi vorbise Dumnezeu, un stâlp de piatră, pe care a adus o jertfă de băutură şi a turnat untdelemn. 15 Iacov a numit locul unde îi vorbise Dumnezeu, Betel(X).
Moartea Rahelei
16 Apoi au plecat din Betel şi mai era o depărtare bunicică până la Efrata, când Rahelei i-au venit durerile naşterii. A avut o naştere grea 17 şi, în timpul durerilor naşterii, moaşa i-a zis: „Nu te teme, căci(Y) mai ai un fiu!” 18 Şi, pe când îşi dădea ea sufletul, căci trăgea să moară, i-a pus numele Ben-Oni (Fiul durerii mele), dar tatăl său l-a numit Beniamin (Fiul dreptei). 19 Rahela(Z) a murit şi a fost îngropată pe drumul care duce la Efrata(AA), sau Betleem. 20 Iacov a ridicat un stâlp pe mormântul ei: acesta este stâlpul de pe mormântul Rahelei, care este(AB) şi azi.
Fiii lui Iacov
21 Israel a plecat mai departe şi şi-a întins cortul dincolo de Migdal-Eder(AC). 22 Pe când locuia Israel în ţinutul acesta, Ruben s-a dus şi s-a culcat(AD) cu Bilha, ţiitoarea tatălui său. Şi Israel a aflat. Fiii lui Iacov erau în număr de doisprezece. 23 Fiii Leii: Ruben(AE), întâiul născut al lui Iacov, Simeon, Levi, Iuda, Isahar şi Zabulon. 24 Fiii Rahelei: Iosif şi Beniamin. 25 Fiii Bilhei, roaba Rahelei: Dan şi Neftali. 26 Fiii Zilpei, roaba Leii: Gad şi Aşer. Aceştia sunt fiii lui Iacov, care i s-au născut în Padan-Aram.
Moartea lui Isaac
27 Iacov a ajuns la tatăl său Isaac, la Mamre(AF), la Chiriat-Arba(AG), care este tot una cu Hebronul, unde locuiseră ca străini Avraam şi Isaac. 28 Zilele vieţii lui Isaac au fost de o sută optzeci de ani. 29 Isaac şi-a dat duhul şi a murit şi a fost(AH) adăugat la poporul său, bătrân şi sătul de zile. Fiii(AI) săi, Esau şi Iacov, l-au îngropat.

35 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.
2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
3 And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
5 And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.
7 And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
8 But Deborah, Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.
9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.
10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.
11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;
12 And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.
13 And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.
14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.
15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.
16 And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.
17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.
19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
20 And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.
21 And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.
22 And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
23 The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:
24 The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:
25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:
26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid: Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.
27 And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
28 And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.
29 And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
