Jacob Settles in Shechem
18 Now Jacob came safely to the city of (A)Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from (B)Paddan-aram, and camped before the city. 19 (C)He bought the plot of land where he had pitched his tent from the hand of the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred [a]pieces of money. 20 Then he erected there an altar and called it [b]El-Elohe-Israel.

Jacob Buys Land in Shechem
18 After Jacob had arrived safely from Paddan-aram,[a] he entered the city of Shechem, which was located in the territory of Canaan, and encamped facing that city. 19 Then he bought a parcel of land for 100 pieces of silver from the descendants of Hamor, Shechem’s father. He pitched his tent there, 20 set up an altar, and named it El-elohe-israel.[b]
