Jacob and Esau Make Peace
33 Then Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming with his 400 men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and his two servant wives. 2 He put the servant wives and their children at the front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last. 3 Then Jacob went on ahead. As he approached his brother, he bowed to the ground seven times before him. 4 Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. And they both wept.
5 Then Esau looked at the women and children and asked, “Who are these people with you?”
“These are the children God has graciously given to me, your servant,” Jacob replied. 6 Then the servant wives came forward with their children and bowed before him. 7 Next came Leah with her children, and they bowed before him. Finally, Joseph and Rachel came forward and bowed before him.
8 “And what were all the flocks and herds I met as I came?” Esau asked.
Jacob replied, “They are a gift, my lord, to ensure your friendship.”
9 “My brother, I have plenty,” Esau answered. “Keep what you have for yourself.”
10 But Jacob insisted, “No, if I have found favor with you, please accept this gift from me. And what a relief to see your friendly smile. It is like seeing the face of God! 11 Please take this gift I have brought you, for God has been very gracious to me. I have more than enough.” And because Jacob insisted, Esau finally accepted the gift.
12 “Well,” Esau said, “let’s be going. I will lead the way.”
13 But Jacob replied, “You can see, my lord, that some of the children are very young, and the flocks and herds have their young, too. If they are driven too hard, even for one day, all the animals could die. 14 Please, my lord, go ahead of your servant. We will follow slowly, at a pace that is comfortable for the livestock and the children. I will meet you at Seir.”
15 “All right,” Esau said, “but at least let me assign some of my men to guide and protect you.”
Jacob responded, “That’s not necessary. It’s enough that you’ve received me warmly, my lord!”
16 So Esau turned around and started back to Seir that same day. 17 Jacob, on the other hand, traveled on to Succoth. There he built himself a house and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place was named Succoth (which means “shelters”).
18 Later, having traveled all the way from Paddan-aram, Jacob arrived safely at the town of Shechem, in the land of Canaan. There he set up camp outside the town. 19 Jacob bought the plot of land where he camped from the family of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for 100 pieces of silver.[a] 20 And there he built an altar and named it El-Elohe-Israel.[b]

33 Jakobi ngriti sytë, vështroi dhe pa që po vinte Esau, që kishte me vete katërqind burra. Atëherë i ndau bijtë e tij midis Leas, Rakelës dhe dy shërbyeseve të tij.
2 Në krye vuri shërbyeset dhe bijtë e tyre, pastaj Lean dhe bijtë e saj dhe së fundi Rakelën dhe Jozefin.
3 Ai vetë kaloi para tyre dhe u përkul deri në tokë shtatë herë deri sa arriti pranë vëllait të vet.
4 Atëherë Esau vrapoi drejt tij, e përqafoi, iu hodh në qafë dhe e puthi; dhe që të dy qanë.
5 Pastaj Esau ngriti sytë, pa gratë e fëmijët dhe tha: "Kush janë këta me ty?". Jakobi iu përgjigj: "Janë bijtë që Perëndia pati mirësinë t’i japë shërbyesit tënd".
6 Atëherë u afruan shërbyeset, ato dhe bijtë e tyre, dhe u përkulën.
7 U afruan edhe Lea dhe bijtë e saj, dhe u përkulën. Pastaj u afruan Jozefi dhe Rakela, dhe u përkulën edhe ata.
8 Esau tha: "Çfarë ke ndërmend të bësh me tërë atë grup që takova?". Jakobi u përgjigj: "Éshtë për të gjetur hir në sytë e zotërisë tim".
9 Atëherë Esau tha: "Kam mjaft për vete, o vëllai im; mbaj për vete atë që është jotja".
10 Por Jakobi tha: "Jo, të lutem; në qoftë se kam gjetur hir në sytë e tu, prano dhuratën time nga dora ime, sepse kur pashë fytyrën tënde, për mua ishte njëlloj sikur të shikoja fytyrën e Perëndisë, dhe ti më ke pritur mirë.
11 Pranoje, pra, dhuratën që të është sjellë, sepse Perëndia është treguar shumë i mirë me mua dhe unë kam gjithçka". Dhe nguli këmbë aq shumë, sa që Esau pranoi.
12 Pastaj Esau tha: "Le të nisemi, të fillojmë të ecim dhe unë do të shkoj para teje".
13 Por Jakobi u përgjigj: "Zotëria im e di që fëmijët janë në moshë të vogël dhe që kam me vete dele dhe lopë qumështore; po t’i mbajmë keq qoftë edhe një ditë të vetme, tërë kafshët kanë për të vdekur.
14 Le të kalojë zotëria im para shërbëtorit të tij, dhe unë do ta ndjek ngadalë me hapin e kafshëve që më paraprijnë dhe me hapin e fëmijëve, deri sa të arrijë te zotëria im në Seir".
15 Atëherë Esau tha: "Më lejo të paktën të lë me ty disa nga njerëzit që janë me mua". Por Jakobi u përgjigj: "Pse ta bëjmë këtë? Mjafton që unë të gjej hir në sytë e zotërisë tim".
16 Kështu po atë ditë Esau u rikthye në rrugën e tij drejt Seirit.
17 Jakobi u nis në drejtim të Sukothit, ndërtoi atje një shtëpi për vete dhe kasolle për bagëtinë; prandaj ai vend u quajt Sukoth.
18 Pastaj Jakobi, duke u kthyer nga Padan-Arami, arriti shëndoshë e mirë në qytetin e Sikemit, në vendin e Kanaanit, ku ngriti çadrat e tij përballë qytetit.
19 Dhe bleu nga bijtë e Hamorit, at i Sikemit, për njëqind copë paresh, pjesën e fushës ku kishte ngritur çadrat e tij përballë qytetit.
20 Pastaj aty ngriti një altar dhe e quajti El-Elohej-Izrael.

33 E levantou Jacó os olhos e olhou, e eis que vinha Esaú, e quatrocentos homens com ele. Então, repartiu os filhos entre Leia, e Raquel, e as duas servas. 2 E pôs as servas e seus filhos na frente e a Leia e a seus filhos, atrás; porém a Raquel e José, os derradeiros. 3 E ele mesmo passou adiante deles e inclinou-se à terra sete vezes, até que chegou a seu irmão. 4 Então, Esaú correu-lhe ao encontro e abraçou-o; e lançou-se sobre o seu pescoço e beijou-o; e choraram. 5 Depois, levantou os seus olhos, e viu as mulheres e os meninos, e disse: Quem são estes contigo? E ele disse: Os filhos que Deus graciosamente tem dado a teu servo. 6 Então, chegaram as servas, elas e os seus filhos, e inclinaram-se. 7 E chegou também Leia com seus filhos, e inclinaram-se; e, depois, chegaram José e Raquel e inclinaram-se. 8 E disse Esaú: De que te serve todo este bando que tenho encontrado? E ele disse: Para achar graça aos olhos de meu senhor. 9 Mas Esaú disse: Eu tenho bastante, meu irmão; seja para ti o que tens. 10 Então, disse Jacó: Não! Se, agora, tenho achado graça a teus olhos, peço-te que tomes o meu presente da minha mão, porquanto tenho visto o teu rosto, como se tivesse visto o rosto de Deus; e tomaste contentamento em mim. 11 Toma, peço-te, a minha bênção, que te foi trazida; porque Deus graciosamente ma tem dado, e porque tenho de tudo. E instou com ele, até que a tomou.
12 E disse: Caminhemos, e andemos; e eu partirei adiante de ti. 13 Porém ele lhe disse: Meu senhor sabe que estes filhos são tenros e que tenho comigo ovelhas e vacas de leite; se as afadigarem somente um dia, todo o rebanho morrerá. 14 Ora, passe o meu senhor diante da face de seu servo; e eu irei como guia pouco a pouco, conforme o passo do gado que está diante da minha face e conforme o passo dos meninos, até que chegue a meu senhor, em Seir.
15 E Esaú disse: Deixarei logo contigo desta gente que está comigo. E ele disse: Para que é isso? Basta que eu ache graça aos olhos de meu senhor. 16 Assim, tornou Esaú aquele dia pelo seu caminho a Seir. 17 Jacó, porém, partiu para Sucote, e edificou para si uma casa, e fez cabanas para o seu gado; por isso, chamou o nome daquele lugar Sucote.
Jacó chega a Siquém e levanta um altar
18 E chegou Jacó salvo à cidade de Siquém, que está na terra de Canaã, quando vinha de Padã-Arã; e fez o seu assento diante da cidade. 19 E comprou uma parte do campo, em que estendera a sua tenda, da mão dos filhos de Hamor, pai de Siquém, por cem peças de dinheiro. 20 E levantou ali um altar e chamou-lhe Deus, o Deus de Israel.
