Genesis 32:30-32
Holman Christian Standard Bible
30 Jacob then named the place Peniel,[a] “For I have seen God face to face,” he said, “and I have been delivered.”(A) 31 The sun shone on him as he passed by Penuel[b](B)—limping because of his hip. 32 That is why, to this day, the Israelites don’t eat the thigh muscle that is at the hip socket: because He struck Jacob’s hip socket at the thigh muscle.[c]

Genesis 32:30-32
King James Version
30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.
