³⁰ So Jacob called the name of the place ^[a]Peniel: “For ^(A)I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”

¹⁰ and they ^(A)saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of ^(B)sapphire stone, and it was like the ^(C)very^[a] heavens in its clarity. ¹¹ But on the nobles of the children of Israel He ^(D)did not ^[b]lay His hand. So ^(E)they saw God, and they ^(F)ate and drank.

¹³ Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-^[a]the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here ^[b]seen Him ^(A)who sees me?”

⁵ So I said:

²⁴ And you said: ‘Surely the Lord our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and ^(A)we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire. We have seen this day that God speaks with man; yet he ^(B)still lives.

^18 (A)No one has seen God at any time. ^(B)The only begotten ^[a]Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

¹⁹ Then He said, “I will make all My ^(A)goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. ^(B)I will be gracious to whom I will be ^(C)gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” ²⁰ But He said, “You cannot see My face; for ^(D)no man shall see Me, and live.” ²¹ And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. ²² So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you ^(E)in the cleft of the rock, and will ^(F)cover you with My hand while I pass by. ²³ Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall ^(G)not be seen.”

²⁷ By faith ^(A)he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.
