⁸ And they heard ^(A)the ^[a]sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the ^[b]cool of the day, and Adam and his wife ^(B)hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

⁹ Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”

¹⁰ So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, ^(C)and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

¹¹ And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”

¹² Then the man said, ^(D)“The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”

¹³ And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”

The woman said, ^(E)“The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

¹⁴ So the Lord God said to the serpent:

^9 (A)That^[a] was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and ^(B)the world did not know Him. ^11 (C)He came to His ^[b]own, and His ^[c]own did not receive Him. ¹² But ^(D)as many as received Him, to them He gave the ^[d]right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: ^13 (E)who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The Word Becomes Flesh

^14 (F)And the Word ^(G)became ^(H)flesh and dwelt among us, and ^(I)we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ^(J)full of grace and truth.

⁸ But ^(A)God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ⁹ Much more then, having now been justified ^(B)by His blood, we shall be saved ^(C)from wrath through Him. ¹⁰ For ^(D)if when we were enemies ^(E)we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved ^(F)by His life.
