²² Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of ^(A)Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from ^(B)the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— ²³ therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. ²⁴ So ^(C)He drove the man out; and at the ^(D)east of the garden of Eden He stationed the ^(E)cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to ^(F)the tree of life.

¹⁷ “You shall ^(A)make a ^[a]mercy seat of pure gold, two and a half ^[b]cubits ^[c]long and one and a half cubits ^[d]wide. ¹⁸ You shall make two cherubim of gold, make them of hammered work ^[e]at the two ends of the mercy seat. ¹⁹ Make one cherub ^[f]at one end and one cherub ^[g]at the other end; you shall make the cherubim of one piece with the mercy seat at its two ends. ^20 (B)The cherubim shall have their wings spread upward, covering the mercy seat with their wings and ^[h]facing one another; the faces of the cherubim are to be turned toward the mercy seat. ^21 (C)You shall put the mercy seat ^[i]on top of the ark, and ^(D)in the ark you shall put the testimony which I will give to you. ^22 (E)There I will meet with you; and from above the mercy seat, from ^(F)between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, I will speak to you about all that I will give you in commandment for the sons of Israel.
