3 Now ^(A)the serpent was more cunning than any animal of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” ² The woman said to the serpent, “^(B)From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; ³ but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’” ^4 (C)The serpent said to the woman, “You certainly will not die! ⁵ For God knows that on the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and ^(D)you will ^[a]become like God, knowing good and evil.”

^44 (A)You are of ^(B)your father the devil, and ^(C)you want to do the desires of your father. ^(D)He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because ^(E)there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells ^[a]a lie, he ^(F)speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of ^[b]lies.

^19 (A)For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, acts of adultery, other immoral sexual acts, thefts, false testimonies, and ^[a]slanderous statements.

¹⁶ “^(A)You shall not ^[a]give false testimony against your ^(B)neighbor.

^16 (A)If a malicious witness rises up against a person to testify against him of wrongdoing, ¹⁷ then both people who have the dispute shall stand ^(B)before the Lord, before the priests and the judges who will be in office in those days. ¹⁸ And the judges ^(C)shall investigate thoroughly, and if the witness is a false witness and he has testified against his brother falsely, ¹⁹ then ^(D)you shall do to him just as he had planned to do to his brother. So you shall eliminate the evil from among you.

⁵⁵ Now the chief priests and the entire ^[a](A)Council were trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any. ⁵⁶ For many people were giving false testimony against Him, and so their testimonies were not consistent. ⁵⁷ And then some stood up and began giving false testimony against Him, saying, ⁵⁸ “We heard Him say, ‘^(B)I will destroy this ^[b]temple that was made by hands, and in three days I will build another, made without hands.’” ⁵⁹ And not even in this respect was their testimony consistent.
