The Message
33-34 Jacob said, “First, swear to me.” And he did it. On oath Esau traded away his rights as the firstborn. Jacob gave him bread and the stew of lentils. He ate and drank, got up and left. That’s how Esau shrugged off his rights as the firstborn.

33 Then Jacob said, [a]“Swear to me as of this day.”
So he swore to him, and (A)sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then (B)he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau (C)despised his birthright.
