²¹ Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; ^(A)and the Lord granted his plea, ^(B)and Rebekah his wife conceived.

²³ So we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He ^(A)answered our prayer.

¹³ But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and ^(A)you shall call his name John.

¹³ and prayed to Him; and He ^(A)received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh ^(B)knew that the Lord was God.

¹⁰ And not only this, but when ^(A)Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac ¹¹ (for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of ^(B)Him who calls), ¹² it was said to her, ^(C)“The older shall serve the younger.”

²⁰ And ^(A)they were helped against them, and the Hagrites were delivered into their hand, and all who were with them, for they ^(B)cried out to God in the battle. He ^[a]heeded their prayer, because they ^(C)put their trust in Him.

^27 (A)For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.

^2 (A)But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, ^(B)seeing I ^[a]go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” ³ Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed ^(C)one^[b] born in my house is my heir!”
