⁷ The Lord, the God of heaven, Who took me from my father’s house, from the land of my family and my birth, Who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, To your offspring I will give this land—He will send His ^[a]Angel before you, and you will take a wife from there for my son.

⁴⁰ And he said to me, The Lord, in Whose presence I walk [habitually], will send His ^[a]Angel with you and prosper your way, and you will take a wife for my son from my kindred and from my father’s house.

²⁰ Behold, I send an ^[a]Angel before you to keep and guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.

²¹ Give heed to Him, listen to and obey His voice; be not rebellious before Him or provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgression; for My ^[b]Name is in Him.^(A)

²² But if you will indeed listen to and obey His voice and all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.

²³ When My Angel goes before you and brings you to the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, and I reject them and blot them out,

¹⁴ Are not the angels all ministering spirits (servants) sent out in the service [of God for the assistance] of those who are to inherit salvation?

³ How shall we escape [appropriate retribution] if we neglect and refuse to pay attention to such a great salvation [as is now offered to us, letting it drift past us forever]? For it was declared at first by the Lord [Himself], and it was confirmed to us and proved to be real and genuine by those who personally heard [Him speak].
