³ that I may make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and God of the earth, that ^(A)you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell,

The Temple of the Living God

^14 (A)Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For ^(B)what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or ^(C)what fellowship has light with darkness? ^15 (D)What accord has Christ with Belial?^[a] Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For ^(E)we are the temple of the living God; as God said,

³⁴ When Esau was forty years old, he took ^(A)Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite to be his wife, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite, ³⁵ and ^(B)they made life bitter^[a] for Isaac and Rebekah.

^39 (A)A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only ^(B)in the Lord.

^25 (A)And I confronted them and cursed them and beat some of them and pulled out their hair. ^(B)And I made them take an oath in the name of God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.

^3 (A)You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, ⁴ for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. ^(B)Then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you ^(C)quickly.

⁸ So when Esau saw ^(A)that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father,

¹¹ Thus shall you say to them: ^(A)“The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth ^(B)shall perish from the earth and from under the heavens.”^[a]

¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord and said: “O Lord, the God of Israel, ^(A)enthroned above the cherubim, ^(B)you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth.
