The Command to Sacrifice Isaac
22 After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac; he cut the wood for the burnt offering, and set out and went to the place in the distance that God had shown him. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place far away. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the boy and I will go over there; we will worship, and then we will come back to you.” 6 Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together. 7 Isaac said to his father Abraham, “Father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” 8 Abraham said, “God himself will provide the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.
9 When they came to the place that God had shown him, Abraham built an altar there and laid the wood in order. He bound his son Isaac, and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill[a] his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” 13 And Abraham looked up and saw a ram, caught in a thicket by its horns. Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called that place “The Lord will provide”;[b] as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”[c]
15 The angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven, 16 and said, “By myself I have sworn, says the Lord: Because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will indeed bless you, and I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of their enemies, 18 and by your offspring shall all the nations of the earth gain blessing for themselves, because you have obeyed my voice.” 19 So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beer-sheba; and Abraham lived at Beer-sheba.

22 (A)Dopo queste cose, Dio mise alla prova Abraamo e gli disse: «Abraamo!» Egli rispose: «Eccomi». 2 E Dio disse: «Prendi ora tuo figlio, il tuo unico, colui che ami, Isacco, e va’ nel paese di Moria, e offrilo là in olocausto sopra uno dei monti che ti dirò».
3 Abraamo si alzò la mattina di buon’ora, sellò il suo asino, prese con sé due suoi servi e suo figlio Isacco, spaccò della legna per l’olocausto, poi partì verso il luogo che Dio gli aveva indicato.
4 Il terzo giorno Abraamo alzò gli occhi e vide da lontano il luogo. 5 Allora Abraamo disse ai suoi servi: «Rimanete qui con l’asino; io e il ragazzo andremo fin là e adoreremo; poi torneremo da voi». 6 Abraamo prese la legna per l’olocausto e la mise addosso a Isacco suo figlio, prese in mano il fuoco e il coltello, poi proseguirono tutti e due insieme. 7 Isacco parlò ad Abraamo suo padre e disse: «Padre mio!» Abraamo rispose: «Eccomi qui, figlio mio». E Isacco: «Ecco il fuoco e la legna; ma dov’è l’agnello per l’olocausto?» 8 Abraamo rispose: «Figlio mio, Dio stesso si provvederà l’agnello per l’olocausto». E proseguirono tutti e due insieme.
9 Giunsero al luogo che Dio gli aveva detto. Abraamo costruì l’altare e vi accomodò la legna; legò Isacco suo figlio e lo mise sull’altare, sopra la legna. 10 Abraamo stese la mano e prese il coltello per scannare suo figlio. 11 Ma l’angelo del Signore lo chiamò dal cielo e disse: «Abraamo, Abraamo!» Egli rispose: «Eccomi». 12 E l’angelo: «Non stendere la mano contro il ragazzo e non fargli male! Ora so che tu temi Dio, poiché non mi hai rifiutato tuo figlio, l’unico tuo». 13 Abraamo alzò gli occhi, guardò, ed ecco dietro a sé un montone, impigliato per le corna in un cespuglio. Abraamo andò, prese il montone e l’offerse in olocausto invece di suo figlio. 14 Abraamo chiamò quel luogo «Iavè-Irè[a]». Per questo si dice oggi: «Al monte del Signore sarà provveduto».
15 L’angelo del Signore chiamò dal cielo Abraamo una seconda volta e disse: 16 «Io giuro per me stesso», dice il Signore, «che, siccome tu hai fatto questo e non mi hai rifiutato tuo figlio, l’unico tuo, 17 io ti colmerò di benedizioni e moltiplicherò la tua discendenza[b] come le stelle del cielo e come la sabbia che è sul lido del mare; e la tua discendenza s’impadronirà delle città dei suoi nemici. 18 Tutte le nazioni della terra saranno benedette nella tua discendenza[c], perché tu hai ubbidito alla mia voce».
19 Poi Abraamo tornò dai suoi servi. Essi si levarono e insieme andarono a Beer-Sceba. E Abraamo abitò a Beer-Sceba.

22 Und es geschah nach diesen Begebenheiten, da prüfte Gott den Abraham und sprach zu ihm: Abraham! Und er antwortete: Hier bin ich.
2 Und er sprach: Nimm doch deinen Sohn, deinen einzigen, den du lieb hast, Isaak, und geh hin in das Land Morija[a] und bringe ihn dort zum Brandopfer dar auf einem der Berge, den ich dir nennen werde!
3 Da stand Abraham am Morgen früh auf und sattelte seinen Esel; und er nahm zwei Knechte mit sich und seinen Sohn Isaak; und er spaltete Holz zum Brandopfer, machte sich auf und ging hin an den Ort, den ihm Gott genannt hatte.
4 Am dritten Tag erhob Abraham seine Augen und sah den Ort von ferne.
5 Da sprach Abraham zu seinen Knechten: Bleibt ihr hier mit dem Esel, ich aber und der Knabe wollen dorthin gehen und anbeten, und dann wollen wir wieder zu euch kommen.
6 Und Abraham nahm das Holz zum Brandopfer und legte es auf seinen Sohn Isaak. Er aber nahm das Feuer und das Messer in seine Hand, und sie gingen beide miteinander.
7 Da sprach Isaak zu seinem Vater Abraham: Mein Vater! Und er antwortete: Hier bin ich, mein Sohn! Und er sprach: Siehe, hier ist Feuer und Holz; wo ist aber das Lamm zum Brandopfer?
8 Und Abraham antwortete: Mein Sohn, Gott wird für ein Lamm zum Brandopfer sorgen![b] Und sie gingen beide miteinander.
9 Und als sie an den Ort kamen, den Gott ihm genannt hatte, baute Abraham dort einen Altar und schichtete das Holz darauf; und er band seinen Sohn Isaak und legte ihn auf den Altar, oben auf das Holz.
10 Und Abraham streckte seine Hand aus und fasste das Messer, um seinen Sohn zu schlachten.
11 Da rief ihm der Engel des Herrn vom Himmel her zu und sprach: Abraham! Abraham! Und er antwortete: Hier bin ich!
12 Er sprach: Lege deine Hand nicht an den Knaben und tue ihm gar nichts; denn nun weiß ich, dass du Gott fürchtest, weil du deinen einzigen Sohn nicht verschont hast um meinetwillen![c]
13 Da erhob Abraham seine Augen und schaute, und siehe, da war hinter ihm ein Widder, der sich mit seinen Hörnern im Gestrüpp verfangen hatte. Und Abraham ging hin und nahm den Widder und brachte ihn als Brandopfer dar anstelle seines Sohnes.
14 Und Abraham nannte den Ort: »Der Herr wird dafür sorgen«,[d] sodass man noch heute sagt: Auf dem Berg wird der Herr dafür sorgen!
15 Und der Engel des Herrn rief Abraham zum zweiten Mal vom Himmel her zu,
16 und er sprach: Ich habe bei mir selbst geschworen, spricht der Herr: Weil du dies getan und deinen Sohn, deinen einzigen, nicht verschont hast,
17 darum will ich dich reichlich segnen und deinen Samen mächtig mehren, wie die Sterne am Himmel und wie den Sand am Ufer des Meeres; und dein Same soll das Tor seiner Feinde in Besitz nehmen,[e]
18 und in deinem Samen sollen alle Völker der Erde gesegnet werden, weil du meiner Stimme gehorsam warst!
19 Und Abraham kehrte wieder zurück zu seinen Knechten; und sie machten sich auf und zogen miteinander nach Beerscheba; und Abraham wohnte in Beerscheba.

22 Ezek után Isten próbára tette Ábrahámot.
Megszólította: „Ábrahám!”
Ő pedig válaszolt: „Igen, Uram!”
2 „Vedd magad mellé egyetlen fiadat, Izsákot, akit szeretsz, és menj el Mórijjá földjére! Ott majd mutatok neked egy hegyet, azon áldozd föl Izsákot égőáldozatként!” — mondta Isten.
3 Másnap Ábrahám már korán reggel fölkészült az útra. Felnyergelte a szamarát, fát hasogatott az égőáldozathoz, és két szolgájával és Izsákkal együtt elindultak arra a helyre, amelyet Isten mondott. 4 A harmadik napon Ábrahám távolról meglátta azt a hegyet, ahová igyekezett. 5 Akkor ezt mondta szolgáinak: „Telepedjetek le itt, vigyázzatok a szamárra, és várjatok ránk. Mi pedig a fiammal elmegyünk oda, és imádkozunk, azután majd visszajövünk.”
6 Ábrahám a tűzifát a fia, Izsák vállára tette, az égő parazsat és a kést maga vitte, és ketten indultak tovább. 7 Útközben Izsák az apjához fordult: „Édesapám!”
„Tessék, fiam!” — mondta Ábrahám.
„Itt a fa és a parázs a tűzgyújtáshoz, de hol van az áldozati bárány?” — kérdezte Izsák.
8 „Isten maga fog gondoskodni az áldozati bárányról” — felelte Ábrahám, és együtt folytatták az utat.
9 Amikor arra a helyre értek, amelyet Isten mutatott neki, Ábrahám oltárt épített, majd elrendezte rajta a tűzifát. Azután megkötözte a fiát, Izsákot, és őt is az oltárra helyezte a tűzifa tetejére. 10 Már éppen felemelte a kést, hogy Izsákot megölje, 11 de az Örökkévaló angyala rákiáltott az égből:
„Ábrahám, Ábrahám!”
„Igen, Uram!” — felelt Ábrahám.
12 „Ne öld meg a fiút! Ne bántsd! Miután próbára tettelek, látom, hogy valóban féled és tiszteled Istent, és egyszülött fiadat sem tagadtad meg tőlem” — kiáltotta az angyal.
13 Amikor Ábrahám körülnézett, a háta mögött egy kost pillantott meg, amely szarvánál fogva megakadt a sűrű bozótban. Tehát odament, fogta a kost, és azt áldozta föl égőáldozatul a fia helyett.
14 Ezért Ábrahám így nevezte azt a helyet: „Az Örökkévaló gondoskodik.” Azóta mondják ezt az emberek: „Az Örökkévaló gondoskodik rólunk az ő hegyén!”
15 Azután az Örökkévaló angyala másodszor is kiáltott Ábrahámnak az égből:
16 „Azt mondja az Örökkévaló: Mivel megtetted, hogy a fiad is átadtad nekem — igen, még az egyetlen fiadat is —, ezért magamra esküszöm, 17 hogy gazdagon és bőségesen megáldalak, utódaidat[a] megsokasítom és megszaporítom, mint égen a csillagokat, és mint tenger partján a homokot.
A te utódod fogja birtokolni ellenségeinek kapuját, 18 és a te utódod által fogom megáldani a föld összes nemzeteit.
Igen, mindezekkel megáldalak, mert engedelmeskedtél szavamnak.”
19 Ezután Ábrahám visszatért a várakozó szolgákhoz, majd együtt hazamentek Beérsebába, mert abban az időben ott táboroztak.
20 Később valaki hírt hozott Ábrahámnak Náhórról, a testvéréről. Elmondta, hogy Náhórnak és feleségének, Milkának fiai születtek:

2 – Prends Isaac, ton fils unique, que tu aimes, lui dit Dieu, et va au pays de Moriya. Là, tu me l’offriras en sacrifice sur l’une des collines, celle que je t’indiquerai[b].
3 Le lendemain, Abraham se leva de grand matin, sella son âne et emmena deux de ses serviteurs ainsi que son fils Isaac ; il fendit du bois pour l’holocauste, puis il se mit en route en direction de l’endroit que Dieu lui avait indiqué.
4 Après trois jours de marche, Abraham, levant les yeux, aperçut le lieu dans le lointain. 5 Alors il dit à ses serviteurs : Restez ici avec l’âne ; le garçon et moi, nous irons jusque là-bas pour adorer Dieu, puis nous reviendrons vers vous.
6 Abraham chargea le bois de l’holocauste sur son fils Isaac ; il prit lui-même des braises pour le feu et le couteau, puis tous deux s’en allèrent ensemble.
7 Isaac s’adressa à son père Abraham et lui dit : Mon père !
Abraham dit : Qu’y a-t-il, mon fils ?
– Voici le feu et le bois, dit-il, mais où est l’agneau pour l’holocauste ?
8 Abraham répondit : Mon fils, Dieu pourvoira lui-même à l’agneau pour l’holocauste.
Et ils poursuivirent leur chemin tous deux ensemble.
9 Quand ils furent arrivés à l’endroit que Dieu lui avait indiqué, Abraham construisit un autel et y disposa les bûches. Puis il ligota son fils Isaac et le mit sur l’autel par-dessus le bois. 10 Alors Abraham prit en main le couteau pour immoler son fils. 11 A ce moment-là, l’ange de l’Eternel lui cria du haut du ciel : Abraham ! Abraham !
– Me voici, répondit-il.
12 L’ange reprit : Ne porte pas la main sur le garçon, ne lui fais pas de mal, car maintenant je sais que tu crains Dieu puisque tu ne m’as pas refusé ton fils unique.
13 Alors Abraham aperçut un bélier qui s’était pris les cornes dans un buisson[c]. Il s’en saisit et l’offrit en holocauste à la place de son fils. 14 Abraham appela ce lieu-là : Adonaï-Yireéh (le Seigneur pourvoira). C’est pourquoi on dit aujourd’hui : Sur la montagne du Seigneur, il sera pourvu.
15 Puis l’ange de l’Eternel appela une seconde fois Abraham du haut du ciel 16 et lui dit : Je le jure par moi-même, parole de l’Eternel, puisque tu as fait cela, puisque tu ne m’as pas refusé ton fils, ton unique, 17 je te comblerai de bénédictions, je multiplierai ta descendance et je la rendrai aussi nombreuse que les étoiles du ciel et que les grains de sable au bord de la mer. Ta descendance dominera sur ses ennemis[d]. 18 Tous les peuples de la terre seront bénis à travers ta descendance parce que tu m’as obéi.
19 Abraham revint vers ses serviteurs et ils se remirent ensemble en route pour rentrer à Beer-Sheva où Abraham continua d’habiter.
