Sacrificio de Isaac
22 Después de estos hechos, Dios quiso poner a prueba a Abrahán; así que lo llamó:
— ¡Abrahán!
Respondió Abrahán:
— Aquí estoy.
2 Y Dios le dijo:
— Toma a tu hijo, el único que tienes y al que tanto amas, a Isaac, dirígete a la región de Moriá y, una vez allí, ofrécemelo en holocausto, en un monte que yo te indicaré.
3 Al día siguiente, de madrugada, Abrahán se levantó y ensilló su asno; cortó leña para el holocausto y, en compañía de dos siervos y de Isaac, se dirigió al lugar que Dios le había indicado. 4 Al tercer día, Abrahán alzó los ojos y divisó el sitio a lo lejos. 5 Entonces dijo a sus siervos:
— Vosotros quedaos aquí con el asno. El muchacho y yo seguiremos adelante para adorar a Dios; luego regresaremos con vosotros.
6 Abrahán tomó la leña del holocausto y se la cargó a su hijo Isaac, mientras él llevaba el cuchillo y el fuego. Y los dos siguieron caminando juntos. 7 Isaac dijo a Abrahán, su padre:
— ¡Padre!
Abrahán respondió:
— Dime, hijo mío.
Dijo Isaac:
— Tenemos el fuego y la leña, pero, ¿dónde está el cordero para el holocausto?
8 Abrahán respondió:
— Hijo mío, Dios proveerá el cordero para el holocausto.
Y continuaron caminando juntos. 9 Una vez llegaron al lugar que Dios había indicado, Abrahán erigió un altar, preparó la leña y después ató a su hijo Isaac y lo puso sobre el altar encima de la leña. 10 Pero cuando Abrahán alargó la mano para tomar el cuchillo con el que degollar a su hijo, 11 el mensajero del Señor le grito desde el cielo:
— ¡Abrahán! ¡Abrahán!
Él respondió:
— Aquí estoy.
12 El mensajero le dijo:
— No pongas tu mano sobre el muchacho ni le hagas ningún daño. Ahora sé que obedeces a Dios y ni siquiera te has negado a darme a tu único hijo.
13 Al levantar la vista, Abrahán vio un carnero enredado por los cuernos en los matorrales. Fue entonces, tomó el carnero y lo ofreció en holocausto en sustitución de su hijo. 14 A ese lugar Abrahán le puso el nombre de: “El Señor proveerá”, y por eso hasta el día de hoy se dice: “Es el monte donde el Señor provee”.
15 El mensajero del Señor llamó por segunda vez a Abrahán desde el cielo, 16 y le dijo:
— Juro por mí mismo, dice el Señor, que por haber hecho esto y no haberme negado a tu único hijo, 17 te colmaré de bendiciones y multiplicaré tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo y como la arena de la playa. Tus descendientes conquistarán las ciudades de sus enemigos 18 y, puesto que me has obedecido, todas las naciones de la tierra serán bendecidas por medio de tu descendencia.
19 Después Abrahán regresó al lugar donde estaban sus criados y partieron juntos hacia Berseba, donde Abrahán se quedó a vivir.
Los descendientes de Najor
20 Algún tiempo más tarde, Abrahán recibió la noticia de que su hermano Najor también había tenido hijos de Milcá. 21 Su primogénito fue Uz; luego nació su hermano Buz, y luego Camuel, padre de Aram. 22 Después siguieron Quésed, Jazó, Pildás, Jidlaf y Betuel. 23 Betuel fue el padre de Rebeca. Estos fueron los ocho hijos que Milcá dio a Najor, hermano de Abrahán. 24 Además Najor también tuvo hijos con una concubina suya llamada Reumá. Ellos fueron: Tebaj, Gaján, Tajás y Maacá.

22 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
11 And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.
15 And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
19 So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
20 And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she hath also born children unto thy brother Nahor;
21 Huz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,
22 And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
23 And Bethuel begat Rebekah: these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
24 And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bare also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.

22 Now it came to pass after these things that (B)God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”
And he said, “Here I am.”
2 Then He said, “Take now your son, (C)your only son Isaac, whom you (D)love, and go (E)to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a (F)burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. 5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the [a]lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will (G)come back to you.”
6 So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and (H)laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. 7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!”
And he said, “Here I am, my son.”
Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the [b]lamb for a burnt offering?”
8 And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the (I)lamb for a (J)burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
9 Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and (K)laid him on the altar, upon the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
11 But the (L)Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”
So he said, “Here I am.”
12 And He said, (M)“Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for (N)now I know that you fear God, since you have not (O)withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, [c]The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
15 Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, 16 and said: (P)“By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— 17 blessing I will (Q)bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants (R)as the stars of the heaven (S)and as the sand which is on the seashore; and (T)your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. 18 (U)In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, (V)because you have obeyed My voice.” 19 So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together to (W)Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
The Family of Nahor
20 Now it came to pass after these things that it was told Abraham, saying, “Indeed (X)Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: 21 (Y)Huz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father (Z)of Aram, 22 Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.” 23 And (AA)Bethuel begot [d]Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother. 24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Thahash, and Maachah.

22 After these things (A)God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to (B)the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy[a] will go over there and worship and come again to you.” 6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and (C)laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. 7 And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” 8 Abraham said, (D)“God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.
9 When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and (E)laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, (F)“Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for (G)now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called the name of that place, (H)“The Lord will provide”;[b] as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”[c]
