Abraham Tested
22 Some time later God tested(A) Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”
“Here I am,”(B) he replied.
2 Then God said, “Take your son(C), your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah.(D) Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering(E) on a mountain I will show you.(F)”
3 Early the next morning(G) Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.(H)”
6 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac,(I) and he himself carried the fire and the knife.(J) As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”
“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.
“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb(K) for the burnt offering?”
8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide(L) the lamb(M) for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.
9 When they reached the place God had told him about,(N) Abraham built an altar(O) there and arranged the wood(P) on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar,(Q) on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife(R) to slay his son.(S) 11 But the angel of the Lord(T) called out to him from heaven,(U) “Abraham! Abraham!”(V)
“Here I am,”(W) he replied.
12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God,(X) because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.(Y)”
13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram[a] caught by its horns.(Z) He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.(AA) 14 So Abraham called(AB) that place The Lord(AC) Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.(AD)”
15 The angel of the Lord(AE) called to Abraham from heaven(AF) a second time 16 and said, “I swear by myself,(AG) declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,(AH) 17 I will surely bless you(AI) and make your descendants(AJ) as numerous as the stars in the sky(AK) and as the sand on the seashore.(AL) Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,(AM) 18 and through your offspring[b] all nations on earth will be blessed,[c](AN) because you have obeyed me.”(AO)
19 Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba.(AP) And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.
Nahor’s Sons
20 Some time later Abraham was told, “Milkah is also a mother; she has borne sons to your brother Nahor:(AQ) 21 Uz(AR) the firstborn, Buz(AS) his brother, Kemuel (the father of Aram), 22 Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph and Bethuel.(AT)” 23 Bethuel became the father of Rebekah.(AU) Milkah bore these eight sons to Abraham’s brother Nahor.(AV) 24 His concubine,(AW) whose name was Reumah, also had sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maakah.

Eine schwere Prüfung für Abraham
22 Einige Zeit später stellte Gott Abraham auf die Probe. »Abraham!«, rief er. »Ja, Herr?« 2 »Geh mit deinem einzigen Sohn Isaak, den du so sehr liebst, in die Gegend von Morija. Dort zeige ich dir einen Berg. Auf ihm sollst du deinen Sohn Isaak töten und als Opfer für mich verbrennen!«
3 Am nächsten Morgen stand Abraham früh auf und spaltete Holz für das Opferfeuer. Dann belud er seinen Esel und nahm seinen Sohn Isaak und zwei seiner Knechte mit. Gemeinsam zogen sie los zu dem Gebirge, das Gott Abraham genannt hatte. 4 Nach drei Tagereisen war es in der Ferne zu sehen. 5 »Ihr bleibt hier und passt auf den Esel auf!«, sagte Abraham zu den beiden Knechten. »Der Junge und ich gehen auf den Berg, um Gott anzubeten; wir sind bald wieder zurück.«
6 Abraham legte das Holz für das Brandopfer auf Isaaks Schultern, er selbst nahm das Messer und eine Schale, in der Holzstücke glühten. Gemeinsam bestiegen sie den Berg. 7 »Vater?«, fragte Isaak. »Ja, mein Sohn.« »Feuer und Holz haben wir – aber wo ist das Lamm für das Opfer?« 8 »Gott wird schon dafür sorgen, mein Sohn!« – Schweigend gingen sie weiter.
9 Als sie die Stelle erreichten, die Gott angegeben hatte, errichtete Abraham aus Steinen einen Altar und schichtete das Brandholz auf. Er fesselte Isaak und legte ihn oben auf den Holzstoß. 10 Dann griff er nach dem Messer, um seinen Sohn zu töten. 11 »Abraham, Abraham!«, rief da der Engel des Herrn vom Himmel. »Ja, Herr?« 12 »Leg das Messer beiseite und tu dem Jungen nichts! Denn jetzt weiß ich, dass du Gott gehorsam bist – du hättest deinen einzigen Sohn nicht verschont, sondern ihn für mich geopfert!«
13 Plötzlich entdeckte Abraham einen Schafbock, der sich mit den Hörnern im Dickicht verfangen hatte. Er tötete das Tier und opferte es anstelle seines Sohnes auf dem Altar. 14 Den Ort nannte er: »Der Herr versorgt.« Noch heute sagt man darum: »Auf dem Berg des Herrn ist vorgesorgt.«
15 Noch einmal rief der Engel des Herrn vom Himmel Abraham zu: 16 »Ich, sagt der Herr, schwöre bei mir selbst: Weil du gehorsam warst und mir deinen einzigen Sohn als Opfer geben wolltest, 17 werde ich dich überreich mit meinem Segen beschenken und dir so viele Nachkommen geben, wie es Sterne am Himmel und Sand am Meer gibt. Sie werden ihre Feinde besiegen und ihre Städte erobern. 18 Alle Völker der Erde werden durch deine Nachkommen am Segen teilhaben.[a] Das alles werde ich dir geben, weil du bereit warst, meinen Willen zu tun.«
19 Danach verließen sie den Berg, holten die Knechte ab und machten sich auf den Weg zurück nach Beerscheba. Dort blieb Abraham wohnen.
20 Bald darauf erreichte ihn die Nachricht, dass Milka, die Frau seines Bruders Nahor, acht Söhne geboren hatte: 21-23 Uz, den ältesten, Bus, Kemuël – den Vater von Aram –, Kesed, Haso, Pildasch, Jidlaf und Betuël – den Vater von Rebekka. 24 Rëuma, die Nebenfrau Nahors, hatte vier Söhne geboren: Tebach, Gaham, Tahasch und Maacha.

22 Now it came to pass after these things that (B)God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”
And he said, “Here I am.”
2 Then He said, “Take now your son, (C)your only son Isaac, whom you (D)love, and go (E)to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a (F)burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. 5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the [a]lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will (G)come back to you.”
6 So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and (H)laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. 7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!”
And he said, “Here I am, my son.”
Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the [b]lamb for a burnt offering?”
8 And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the (I)lamb for a (J)burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
9 Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and (K)laid him on the altar, upon the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
11 But the (L)Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”
So he said, “Here I am.”
12 And He said, (M)“Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for (N)now I know that you fear God, since you have not (O)withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, [c]The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
15 Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, 16 and said: (P)“By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— 17 blessing I will (Q)bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants (R)as the stars of the heaven (S)and as the sand which is on the seashore; and (T)your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. 18 (U)In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, (V)because you have obeyed My voice.” 19 So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together to (W)Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.

20 Now it came to pass after these things that it was told Abraham, saying, “Indeed (X)Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: 21 (Y)Huz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father (Z)of Aram, 22 Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.” 23 And (AA)Bethuel begot [d]Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother. 24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Thahash, and Maachah.

Abraham offrar Isak
22 (A) En tid därefter satte Gud Abraham på prov. Han sade till honom: ”Abraham!” Han svarade: ”Ja, här är jag.” 2 (B) Då sade han: ”Ta din son Isak, din ende son[a] som du älskar, och gå till Moria land[b] och offra honom[c] där som brännoffer på ett berg som jag ska visa dig.”
3 Tidigt nästa morgon sadlade Abraham sin åsna och tog med två av sina tjänare och sin son Isak. Sedan han huggit ved till brännoffer, gav han sig i väg mot platsen dit Gud hade sagt åt honom att gå. 4 På tredje dagen lyfte Abraham blicken och fick se platsen på avstånd. 5 Han sade då till sina tjänare: ”Stanna här med åsnan. Jag och pojken[d] går dit bort för att tillbe. Sedan kommer vi tillbaka till er.”
6 Abraham tog veden till brännoffret och lade den på sin son Isak. Själv tog han elden och kniven, och de gick båda tillsammans. 7 Isak sade till sin far Abraham: ”Far!” Han svarade: ”Jag är här, min son.” Han sade: ”Vi har eld och ved, men var är lammet till brännoffret?” 8 Abraham svarade: ”Gud kommer att utse åt sig lammet till brännoffret, min son.” Så fortsatte de sin vandring tillsammans.
9 När de kom fram till den plats som Gud hade sagt till Abraham, byggde han ett altare där och gjorde i ordning veden. Sedan band han sin son Isak[e] och lade honom på altaret ovanpå veden. 10 Och Abraham räckte ut handen och tog kniven för att slakta sin son.
11 Då ropade Herrens ängel till honom från himlen: ”Abraham! Abraham!” Han svarade: ”Jag är här.” 12 (C) Då sade han: ”Lyft inte din hand mot pojken och gör inte något mot honom. Nu vet jag att du fruktar Gud, när du inte ens har undanhållit mig din ende son.”
13 Abraham såg sig omkring och fick då syn på en bagge bakom sig som hade fastnat med hornen i ett snår. Abraham gick dit och tog baggen och offrade den som brännoffer i stället för sin son. 14 Och Abraham kallade platsen Herren förser[f]. I dag säger man: Berget där Herren förser.
15 Herrens ängel ropade igen till Abraham från himlen: 16 (D) ”Jag svär vid mig själv, säger Herren: Eftersom du har gjort detta och inte undanhållit mig din ende son, 17 (E) ska jag välsigna dig rikligt och göra dina efterkommande talrika som stjärnorna på himlen och som sanden på havets strand, och din avkomma ska inta sina fienders portar. 18 (F) I din avkomma ska jordens alla folk bli välsignade, [g] därför att du lyssnade till min röst.”
19 Sedan vände Abraham tillbaka till sina tjänare, och de bröt upp och gick tillsammans till Beer-Sheba. Och Abraham bodde i Beer-Sheba.
Nahors släkttavla
20 (G) Sedan berättade man för Abraham och sade: Också Milka har fött barn åt din bror Nahor: 21 Us, hans förstfödde, och Bus, hans bror, och Kemuel, Arams far, 22 samt Kesed, Haso, Pildash, Jidlaf och Betuel. 23 Betuel blev far till Rebecka. Dessa åtta födde Milka åt Abrahams bror Nahor. 24 Hans bihustru, som hette Reuma, födde Teba, Gaham, Tahash och Maaka.
