⁶ Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac,^(A) and he himself carried the fire and the knife.^(B) As the two of them went on together, ⁷ Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb^(C) for the burnt offering?”

⁸ Abraham answered, “God himself will provide^(D) the lamb^(E) for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

¹⁹ Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”^(A)

²⁰ They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” ²¹ But the temple he had spoken of was his body.^{(B) 22} After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said.^(C) Then they believed the scripture^(D) and the words that Jesus had spoken.
