¹⁵ The angel of the Lord^(A) called to Abraham from heaven^(B) a second time ¹⁶ and said, “I swear by myself,^(C) declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,^{(D) 17} I will surely bless you^(E) and make your descendants^(F) as numerous as the stars in the sky^(G) and as the sand on the seashore.^(H) Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,^{(I) 18} and through your offspring^[a] all nations on earth will be blessed,^[b](J) because you have obeyed me.”^(K)

¹⁸ But this is how God fulfilled^(A) what he had foretold^(B) through all the prophets,^(C) saying that his Messiah would suffer.^{(D) 19} Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out,^(E) that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, ²⁰ and that he may send the Messiah,^(F) who has been appointed for you—even Jesus. ²¹ Heaven must receive him^(G) until the time comes for God to restore everything,^(H) as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.^{(I) 22} For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.^{(J) 23} Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’^[a](K)

²⁴ “Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets^(L) who have spoken have foretold these days. ²⁵ And you are heirs^(M) of the prophets and of the covenant^(N) God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’^{[b](O) 26} When God raised up^(P) his servant, he sent him first^(Q) to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”

¹⁸ Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations,^(A) just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”^{[a](B) 19} Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead^(C)—since he was about a hundred years old^(D)—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.^{(E) 20} Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened^(F) in his faith and gave glory to God,^{(G) 21} being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.^{(H) 22} This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”^{(I) 23} The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, ²⁴ but also for us,^(J) to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him^(K) who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.^{(L) 25} He was delivered over to death for our sins^(M) and was raised to life for our justification.^(N)
