Abraham’s Faith Confirmed^(A)

22 Now it came to pass after these things that ^(B)God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”

And he said, “Here I am.”

The Faith of the Patriarchs^(A)

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, ^(B)when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works ^(A)when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?

² And you shall remember that the Lord your God ^(A)led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and ^(B)test you, ^(C)to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

Loving God Under Trials

^12 (A)Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive ^(B)the crown of life ^(C)which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. ¹³ Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. ¹⁴ But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

⁷ that ^(A)the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though ^(B)it is tested by fire, ^(C)may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

¹³ No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but ^(A)God is faithful, ^(B)who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to ^[a]bear it.

¹⁶ who fed you in the wilderness with ^(A)manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, ^(B)to do you good in the end—

²⁵ So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. ^(A)When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet.
