The Garden of Eden
2 Thus the heavens and the earth, and (A)all the host of them, were finished. 2 (B)And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God (C)blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
4 (D)This is the [a]history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, 5 before any (E)plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the Lord God had not (F)caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man (G)to till the ground; 6 but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.
7 And the Lord God formed man of the (H)dust of the ground, and (I)breathed into his (J)nostrils the breath of life; and (K)man became a living being.
Life in God’s Garden
8 The Lord God planted (L)a garden (M)eastward in (N)Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made (O)every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. (P)The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and (Q)evil.
10 Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. 11 The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts (R)the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 And the gold of that land is good. (S)Bdellium and the onyx stone are there. 13 The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is (T)Hiddekel;[b] it is the one which goes toward the east of [c]Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
15 Then the Lord God took [d]the man and put him in the garden of Eden to [e]tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (U)you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it (V)you[f] shall surely (W)die.”
18 And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; (X)I will make him a helper comparable to him.” 19 (Y)Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and (Z)brought them to [g]Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.
21 And the Lord God caused a (AA)deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He [h]made into a woman, (AB)and He (AC)brought her to the man.
23 And Adam said:
“This is now (AD)bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called [i]Woman,
Because she was (AE)taken out of [j]Man.”
24 (AF)Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and (AG)be[k] joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
25 (AH)And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not (AI)ashamed.

The Creation of Man and Woman
4 [c](D)This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in (E)the day that the Lord God made earth and heaven. 5 (F)Now no shrub of the field was yet on the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, (G)for the Lord God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to [d]cultivate the ground. 6 But a [e]mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole [f]surface of the ground. 7 Then the Lord God formed the man of (H)dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the (I)man became a living [g]person. 8 The Lord God planted a (J)garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed. 9 Out of the ground the Lord God caused (K)every tree to grow that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; (L)the tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; (S)I will make him a helper [p]suitable for him.” 19 (T)And out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the sky, and (U)brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field, but for [q]Adam there was not found (V)a helper [r]suitable for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a (W)deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 And the Lord God [s]fashioned into a woman (X)the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said,
“(Y)At last this is bone of my bones,
And flesh of my flesh;
[t]She shall be called [u]‘woman,’
Because [v]she was taken out of [w]man.”
24 (Z)For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. 25 (AA)And the man and his wife were both naked, but they were not ashamed.

4 这是创造天地的起源：耶和华 神造天地的时候， 5 原野上还没有树木，田间的蔬菜还没有长起来，因为耶和华 神还没有降雨在地上，也没有人耕种土地； 6 不过有雾气从地面上升，滋润全地。 7 耶和华 神用地上的尘土造成人形，把生气吹进他的鼻孔里，那人就成了有生命的活人，名叫亚当。 8 耶和华 神在东方的伊甸，栽了一个园子，把他所造的人放在那里。 9 耶和华 神使各样的树从地上长起来，能悦人的眼目，也好作食物。园子中间又有生命树，和知善恶树。
10 有一条河从伊甸流出来，灌溉那园子；从那里分支，成了四道河的源头。 11 第一道河名叫比逊，就是环绕哈腓拉全地的，在那里有金子； 12 那地的金子是好的；在那里也有红玉和玛瑙。 13 第二道河名叫基训，就是环绕古实全地的。 14 第三道河名叫底格里斯河（“底格里斯河”原文作“希底结”），就是流向亚述东边的。第四道河就是幼发拉底河（“幼发拉底河”原文作“伯拉河”）。 15 耶和华 神把那人安置在伊甸园里，叫他耕种和看守那园子。 16 耶和华 神吩咐那人说：“园中各样树上的果子，你都可以吃； 17 只是那知善恶树的果子，你不可吃；因为你吃的时候，你必要死。”

18 耶和华 神说：“那人独居不好，我要为他造个和他相配的帮手。” 19 耶和华 神用泥土造了野地的各样野兽，和空中的各样飞鸟，把牠们都带到那人面前，看他给牠们叫甚么名字；那人怎样叫各样有生命的活物，那就是牠的名字。 20 那人就给各样牲畜、空中的雀鸟，和野地的各样走兽起了名字；只是那人没有遇见一个和他相配的帮手。 21 耶和华 神使那人沉睡。他熟睡的时候，耶和华 神取了他的一根肋骨，又使肉在原处复合。 22 然后，耶和华 神用从那人身上所取的肋骨，造了一个女人，带她到那人面前。 23 那人说：
“这是我骨中的骨，
肉中的肉；
她当称为女人，
因她是从男人身上取出来的。”
24 因此人要离开父母，和妻子连合，二人成为一体。 25 那时，夫妻二人赤身露体，彼此都不觉得羞耻。
