2 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all their multitude.^{(A) 2} On the sixth^[a] day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done.^{(B) 3} So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.^(C)

⁸ “Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.^{(A) 9} Six days you shall labor and do all your work.^{(B) 10} But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. ¹¹ For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and consecrated it.^(C)

The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth

¹⁶ When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read,^{(A) 17} and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:

²⁰ And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.^{(D) 21} Then he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

²⁸ “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.^{(A) 29} Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.^{(B) 30} For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
