14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who [a]were to marry his daughters, and said, “Up, (A)get out of this place, for the Lord is destroying the city.” (B)But he appeared to his sons-in-law [b]to be joking.

15 When morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Up, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away in the [c]punishment of the city.” 16 But he hesitated. So the men (C)grasped his hand and the hand of his wife and the [d]hands of his two daughters, because (D)the compassion of the Lord was upon him; and they brought him out and put him outside the city.

14 Toen ging Lot naar de mannen die met zijn dochters zouden trouwen en zei: "Kom mee, vlucht de stad uit, want de Heer gaat de stad verwoesten." Maar ze dachten dat hij hen voor de gek hield.

De verwoesting van Sodom

15 Het begon dag te worden. Daarom drongen de engelen er bij Lot op aan dat hij moest opschieten. Ze zeiden: "Kom mee en vlucht met je vrouw en je twee dochters. Dan zullen jullie niet worden gedood. Want de stad gaat verwoest worden vanwege alle misdaden die hier gebeuren." 16 Maar Lot bleef aarzelen. Daarom grepen de mannen hem, zijn vrouw en zijn twee dochters bij de hand en brachten hen de stad uit. Want de Heer wilde hen redden.
