The Doom of Sodom

19 Now the ^(A)two angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom. When ^(B)Lot saw them, he stood up to meet them and ^[a]bowed down with his face to the ground.

¹⁵ Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “This is hopeless, my master! ^[a]What are we to do?” ¹⁶ And he said, “^(A)Do not be afraid, for ^(B)those who are with us are ^[b]greater than those who are with them.” ¹⁷ Then Elisha prayed and said, “^(C)Lord, please, open his eyes so that he may see.” And the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of ^(D)horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Isaiah’s Vision

6 In the year of ^(A)King Uzziah’s death ^(B)I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. ² Seraphim were standing above Him, ^(C)each having six wings: with two each covered his face, and with two each covered his feet, and with two each flew. ³ And one called out to another and said,

⁴ And the ^[b]foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the ^[c](F)temple was filling with smoke. ⁵ Then I said,

⁶ Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from the ^(K)altar with tongs. ⁷ He ^(L)touched my mouth with it and said, “Behold, this has touched your lips; and ^(M)your guilt is taken away and atonement is made for your sin.”

⁸ In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock at night. ⁹ And ^(A)an angel of the Lord suddenly ^(B)stood near them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. ¹⁰ And so the angel said to them, “^(C)Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; ¹¹ for today in the city of David there has been born for you a ^(D)Savior, who is ^[a](E)Christ ^(F)the Lord. ¹² And ^(G)this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a ^[b]manger.” ¹³ And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly ^[c]army of angels praising God and saying,

¹⁵ When the angels had departed from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let’s go straight to Bethlehem, then, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”

² Do not neglect ^(A)hospitality to strangers, for by this some have ^(B)entertained angels without knowing it.
